Apple Snickerdoodle Dump Cake

sliced, peeled tart apple (about 8 medium)

brown sugar

sugar

orange juice

lemon juice

(17.9 ounces) snickerdoodle cookie mix

butter, melted

pecans

Whipped cream, optional

There is no way this fits into a 11x7 pan, used 13x9

It's Apple picking season in New England, and who can resist fresh off the tree apples.  Made this as per recipe directions using 8 tart granny smith apples.  They filled my rectangular 3 quart casserole dish.  Baked to perfection in 40 minutes.  Taste and texture were great, although because my apples were so tart, I really didn't need the lemon juice.  Would skip that next time, but will definitely make it again.

I made this today and used 8 medium at Granny Smith apples as recommended. I bought a box of snickerdoodle mix that was a Walmart brand but added extra cinnamon sugar to the mix since it looked like they had skimped on that. Having experienced issues with pouring melted butter over the top of dump cakes and having it come out still powdery in spots, I just used slightly more than half a cup of butter and covered the entire top from edge to edge. I did add chopped pecans and cooked it for 40 minutes. My husband said this is definitely a keeper. Will serve it to my parents tomorrow and add ice cream. I used a Corning Ware dish that was close to the size, but it needs to be a little deeper to handle the liquid. Hubby gives it 5 stars, as do I.

It was very liquidy almost like soup.  Got some of the liquid out and cooking it for a bit longer.

I think of a dump cake as a dump and go so decided to use unsweetened apple pie filling rather than peeling and slicing apples.  I mixed all the listed ingredients for the apples together and then mixed it with the apple pie filling.  I followed the recipe as to the snickerdoodle cake mix, butter and pecans.  It got great reviews from all who tried it.  This recipe is a keeper!

While I wouldn't call this a cake, I will call it delicious!  I didn't peel the apples as I never peel apples for a dessert.  It may not look as pretty, but none of the nutrients are lost.

So yummy and easy to make to boot!   We left off the nuts due to a picky eater in the house.  I would recommend drizzling the butter as much over the cookie mix as possible.

This recipe is amazing. I don’t do well with deserts and it was really easy to make. I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a big hit. I sprinkled brown sugar on top with walnuts for a crunchy topping. I have already given out this recipe. Thank you for sharing.

I tried this recipe & was disappointed with the results.  I followed the recipe as printed and used the appropriate pan size.  However, the filling spilled over into the bottom of my oven.  The half cup of butter was insufficient to cover the cookie mixture.  It was very dry.  So I melted additional butter to drizzle  over the cookie mix;  then cooked the cake for an additional 10 minutes.  I had planned to take this dessert to my church for coffee refreshments.  I left it in the oven with the heat turned off in hopes of the top becoming crisp like the cookies.  I have made a lot of snickerdoodle cookies over the years, but never had the failure this batch caused me.
