Step 1

Making The DONUTS:

Step 4

Preheat oven to 350℉.

Step 7

Add cake mix, eggs, oil and water to the bowl of a stand mixer (or electric hand mixer) and beat on low for 1-2 minutes to combine.

Step 11

Divide the mixed batter into 5 bowls (you can use 4 bowls plus leave some in the bowl you mixed in…or however many colors you want to use for this recipe)

Step 15

Use a toothpick and scoop out some gel food coloring and add to a bowl. Mix with a spoon. If you want to add more coloring use a clean toothpick until desired color is reached. Repeat for all using separate spoons for each bowl.

Step 17

*Note- Food Coloring Gel is VERY strong, so if you want a light color, start off really small.

Step 20

For the green, combine yellow and blue.

Step 25

Spray mini donut pan with non-stick spray or rub each slot with butter, so they are easy to come right out.

Step 29

Pour a little of each color into each donut slot to about ¾ of the way full.

Step 34

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until it a donut bounces back to the touch and doesn’t feel jiggly underneath.

Step 37

MAKING THE ICING:

Step 40

Open up your frosting container and take off the aluminum film and discard before placing the container in the microwave for 30-45 seconds to melt the icing.

Step 44

Divide melted icing into 4 small bowls. (These directions used purple, pink, yellow and teal)

Step 47

Add gel food coloring to each bowl, just as you did to the batter. Stir in the food coloring gel until you get the perfect color you like.

Step 51

Dip cooled donuts into desired icing color.

Step 52

You can use your fingers or two forks or tongs if its easier.

Step 56

Place each dipped donut on a wire rack with a cookie sheet underneath so the icing can set before decorating.

Step 57

(Or you can lay them on foil or wax paper, cause we’re all about easy!)

Step 61

Once all of the donuts are iced, take remaining icing and, using a separate spoon for each color, drizzle over the top of the donuts, one color at a time.

Step 66

Decorate to your hearts content until you love the look!

Step 68

ENJOY!!!
