Rum Balls

These were a hit at the Christmas Eve party. I increased the rum to 1/3 cup since others were saying a 1/4 cup is not enough. I think a 1/2 cup would have been too much unless you love rum

These were good, similar to the recipe I usually use. I increased the rum to 1/2 cup for more flavor.

Disappointing. Can hardly taste the rum and very bland. Next time, I will use more rum and no water. Maybe add some vanilla, nutmeg or cinnamon.

I used a half cup of Amaretto Di Saronno and 1.5 cups ground almonds. Belissima!

If you don't immediately make the balls, the mixture dries out and will not form. Act fast! Next time, to increase the flavor, I will add run extract.

Let me first and foremost say I did not follow this recipe precisely in that I did not use water (never have never will, why waste room for rum??) and I used dark rum rather than light rum (again, always have, never will use light rum...Kraken all the way!). That being said, the recipe is easy with minimal cleanup! I used my Ninja to grind up the wafers and the pecans. It all mixed nice and easy. Now to wait a week and a half before eating them!

I just finished making my first batch. I pretty much stuck to the original recipe with two changes: I upped the rum and wafers slightly and used corn syrup as suggested in some of the other reviews. I used 100 proof Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum and rolled them in the remaining ground pecans  (got that from another review also). I now have have them 'stewing' (also suggested by a reviewer) in an air right container in the fridge for a party in 7 days. I had my husband try one now and he said it was really good. I will come back and update my review after the party. :)I do have a food processor and the recipe was extremely easy to follow and complete.Rum Balls were a big hit. The rum flavor snuck up after the ball warmed up in your mouth. Very tasty and simple recipe. I highly recommend!

k so I made this, very sticky why ? is it maybe because I only put  1-1/2 cups of crumbs when it's suppose to be 2-1/2 cups, but anyways I had to put lots of icing sugar and when I rolled them they started to go flat like a pancake I am for sure making them again just need some tips from other people, I also did a little change, I put rum and a a little bit of vodka,,, no harm hehehe

I use chocolate wafers or chocolate teddy grahams instead of vanilla.  It is really good.

My family has been making these traditional treats for generations.  We have used other liquors, ...rum, bourbon, even brandy, but the favorite is Jack Daniels whiskey. We omit the honey, and use light corn syrup instead, then roll them in raw sugar, separate between liquor soaked coffee filters and store in air tight container for at least two weeks. You won't need cocktails after a couple of these. Definitely adult enjoyment treats.

Made these for hubby, used dark rum in one batch and Gingerbread Liqueur in another and he just loved them, have to make more for Christmas.

I made them for a Bake Sale & they sold quickly!  Several people asked for the recipe.  When rolling them into balls, I had to add another small "splash" of rum as they were drying out a little bit.  That made it easier to continue forming the balls.

I love the simplicity of this recipe and using honey rather than corn syrup.  Great recipe to master and then add your own variations.

You can use Kahlua, Creme de Cocoa or even flavored brandy instead of rum

I Love this recipe! The family enjoyed them. They were a big hit! I used Vanilla flavored Rum. I will be using this recipe every year!

I make these every year for the men in the office.  They always look forward to Christmas because they know I will bring them in.

I used to wait for christmas for my father in law to make rum and bourbon balls. Sorry dad...I can make my own now! These are fantastic, especially after a few days of the flavors melding. I'm going to substitute almonds next time because thatis what dad makes and I am partial to his rum balls.

Spiced rum will work great. So will bourbon or whiskey, creme de menthe, peppermint schnapps too.

We live in Hungary and this is a very popular treat around the holidays. Here everyone has their own family variety. You can omit the nuts. You can wrap the dough around a tart cherry. You can substitute the juice for the cherries for the rum. You can also use jam instead of honey. Lots of options and they all turn out great!

I used apricot brandy and substituted corn syrup for the honey due to allergies.  Great recipe.
