South Dakota Frito Treats

pkg. (9-3/4 ounces each) corn chips, divided

semisweet chocolate chips, divided

sugar

corn syrup

peanut butter

These are so delicious! Because many doubled the recipe of the sugar/corn syrup/peanut butter mixture, I used only one bag of Fritos and an 8x8 brownie pan. I should be ashamed of myself for eating so many of them before sharing, but I’m not. :)

I made these for my church group, and they loved them, and they are gluten free.  The second time around I made 50% more goo, so they stuck better, and I made sure to goo the sides and corners first as I found I lost a lot of chips on the first batch.

Definitely a go-to when I need something quick.  I've never had to store this away, because it's gone really quick.  I like it as an occasional change from puppy chow and you can add other ingredients and make this one your own.

So easy, no oven. Great to take along. I made a doubles the sauce like many others have. In attempt to avoid gooey chocolate chips, I stirred Nutella in with the peanut butter. Wow!  It is awesome!

I’ve been making these for years minus the chocolate chips. I got the original recipe from Taste of Home and they were called Kooky Kookies. They  are a big hit wherever I take them. Super easy to make. I will have to try the recipe with the chocolate chips.

I never thought of adding chocolate chips to this. I’ve made this for years. Bigger pan, just spread out more. We call it Gooey Fritos. It’s a family favourite. So yummy.

These are sweet and salty.  Loved them and friends loved them too.  Only suggestion would be to gently crush the frito chips slightly.  They will cut better and bite better!   Yum!  Easy - Easy and makes a lot.

Doubled the sauce, and put everything into a huge bowl to mix together before pouring it into a 9x13 pan.  DELICIOUS!!!  Easy to cut because the fritos broke down a bit and the chocolate melted to look just like fudge.  Peanut texture/taste without peanuts.  Love it!!!

Very tasty and similar to a recipe I used to make with my grandmother.  I had lots of dry chips in the bottom of the pan though so next time I'll add the peanut butter mixture to the corn chips in a big bowl, stir everything together and press into the pan.

These are a cute idea and they are tasty (but VERY SWEET) but I found them a mess to make, a mess to try to cut and serve ,and a mess to eat,  You can get the same great flavors and taste in something else and avoid the mess.  The chocolate is always molten unless you put it in the fridge - and then it turns the whole thing into cement and you can't cut it OR CHEW IT.

We loved this and I used the ingredients as written.  However, I did tweak the technique a bit.  I mixed the corn chips into the sugar mixture (like you do for cereal bars).  Then I melted the chocolate chips and drizzled on top.  The photo looked like there were loose chips that would be a mess to eat.  We loved them, but after 4 days of humid Midwestern weather, they suffer a bit.  Not a problem--we were able to gobble them up quickly.

I like dark chocolate so will try these bars that way. They look good.

This was the worst recipe I've ever made from this website. The texture and instructions were fine, but the flavor was flat and terrible. It was not sweet or salty, not peanut butter or chocolate, but crunchy and chewy. It all went in the trash. Waste of ingredients.

I was very excited to make this unusual sweet. Be warned, if you have fillings in your teeth, bad teeth or no teeth, this recipe is NOT, for you. The flavor blend is ok. But look out for the never ending chewiness of the peanut butter liquid you pour on top. Messy as well. If you put in fridge to make the chocolate chips get firm, instead of being a chocolate mess, you cannot even cut this stuff, it gets hard as a rock. So dont chill, either.

So this is the strangest recipe I've ever tried. They are good as well as easy to make, but too sweet for me (hence the 3 stars). Other people seem to like them though. I did follow the reviewer's suggestion to crush the chips a bit first & I did that. This would go well at a potluck or a Superbowl party. The sweetness factor makes them a no for me, though.

This was just terrible.  I did everything per the directions.  I ended up putting it in the garbage.

This sounds awesome. I'm going to make them with chili cheese corn chips. And possibly chunky peanut butter.

YUM! I made these according to the recipe the first time around, and they are good. The second time I made them, I doubled the "sauce ingredients"
