Step 1
Preheat oven to 350F.
Step 2
Butter a half 13x9 inch pan and set side.
Step 3
In a medium bowl mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Step 4
In the large bowl of an electric mixer, whisk softened butter on medium speed for 1-2 minutes.
Step 5
Add dry ingredients and combine with butter for 30-40 seconds.
Step 6
Add heavy cream, oil, vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mix on medium-high for one minute. Add the black food coloring gel, as much as needed, until you achieve the shade of black you want. Mix until well combined.
Step 7
Pour batter into prepared half sheet pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes, a tooth stick inserted into the center of the cake must come clean.
Step 8
Remove cake from oven and set aside to chill. Once chilled, using a batman cookie cutter, cut batman shapes from the black cake and set aside. For better results refrigerate the Batman shapes for one hour, this will help maintaining their shape under the pressure of the Lemon Cake Batter. You can even freeze them for 30 minutes.
Step 9
Preheat oven to 350F.
Step 10
Butter a 9x5 inch loaf pan and set side.
Step 11
In a medium bowl mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Step 12

Step 14
Add heavy cream, oil, lemon juice, lemon zest and eggs one at a time, mix on medium-high for one minute, until well combined.

In a buttered loaf pan, pour 1/3 on the lemon batter on the bottom of the pan. Start stacking the batman shapes one inch from the front of the pan, stack them thru the length until the end of the loaf pan (see picture at the end of the post). Carefully, pour the remaining batter over the batman shapes and transfer to the oven.
Step 16
Bake for 25-30 minutes, a tooth stick inserted into the center of the cake must come clean.
Step 17
Once baked, remove from oven, let it chill, sprinkle with powdered sugar, slice and serve.
