Step 1

For the cake:

Step 2

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Mix cake mix and Cherry Coke in a large bowl until the batter is smooth. If you have trouble getting rid of all of the lumps, mix the batter with a hand or stand mixer.

Step 3

Line a 9 x 13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and then carefully pour the batter into the pan. Use a spatula to evenly distribute the batter in the pan.

Step 4

Bake in your preheated oven for about 35 minutes, or until knife or cake tester comes out clean. Allow cake to cool before cutting.

Step 5

If you're making the frosting:

Step 6

While your cake is in the oven, whisk flour and milk in a small saucepan on medium heat on your stove. Stir mixture constantly until it thickens to a brownie batter-like consistency.

Step 7

Once thickened, remove mixture from heat and stir in cocoa powder and Cherry Coke. Allow this mixture to cool to room temperature. It must be completely cool before you use it in a later step.

Step 8

While the flour mixture cools, cream the butter and sugar together with a hand or stand mixer until it's light and fluffy. You'll know it's done once it doesn't feel grainy anymore.

Step 9

Add the completely cooled flour mixture into the butter mixture and beat them together until combined. The frosting should resemble whipped cream and look relatively uniform in color. The ingredients shouldn't look like they're separating.

Step 10

Once cake is cool, carefully frost it. The cake may crumble slightly while you frost it, so go slowly.

Step 11

Cut and serve!
