This old-fashioned homemade apple crisp is a simple dessert baked from scratch just like grandma used to make!

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Prepare a deep 8x8 dish or 11x7 by spraying with nonstick spray or butter the dish.

In a large bowl mix the apples, flour, sugars, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice. Toss to combine until all apples are covered with flour. Transfer to prepared dish. The apples will be piled high but it's okay because they shrink a bit as they cook.

In a medium bowl add brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and butter. Use a pastry cutter or two forks or your hands to combine and crumble the mixture until it is pea-sized and crumbly.

Spread topping over the apples and gently pat it down.

Place dish on a cookie sheet in case any goodness bubbles over.

Bake 45-60 minutes until brown and bubbly.

Let cool slightly before serving as the juices are super hot.

(200 grams) brown sugar

all-purpose flour

(180 grams) quick-cooking oats

(250 grams) all-purpose flour

(400 grams) packed brown sugar

baking soda

(2 sticks, 226 grams) Challenge Butter (cubed while cold)

Preheat oven to 375°F. Prepare a 9x13 pan with baking spray or coating with butter.

Place sliced apples in a bowl. Add brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Stir gently and make sure every piece of apple is covered in the sugar mixture. Set aside.

Apple Mixture

Combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon together. Add in the cubed butter and use your hands to combine. You want the butter to be pea-sized and coated entirely. You should have 6 cups.&nbsp;

Spread 3 cups over the bottom of your prepared pan and press flat. Pour the apple mixture over top and press down with rubber spatula. Pour remaining crisp mixture over top of the apples and bake uncovered at 375°F for 35-45 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Generously grease an 8x8 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

To make the topping: Combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and pecans in a large bowl until well-combined. Add in the pieces of butter and use your hands to squeeze and combine until the mixture becomes crumbly and resembles wet sand. (Alternatively, you can cut in the butter with a pastry cutter, or place all of the topping ingredients in a food processor and pulse until just blended. My favorite method is to use my hands, as I believe you get the best crumbly topping that way.)

Once finished, place topping in the fridge and begin making the apple filling.

To make the filling: Place apples, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and bourbon (or vanilla) in a large bowl and toss to combine. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes.

Take 1/3 cup of the topping mixture and toss with the apple mixture. Place the apple mixture in prepared pan and sprinkle evenly with topping.

Bake the crisp on a baking sheet (just in case the filling bubbles over!) for 45-55 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbling. Remove from oven and cool 10 minutes on wire rack. Serve warm with your favorite vanilla ice cream. Makes 9 servings.

(150 grams) light brown sugar (packed)

(600 grams) sliced apples

(50 grams) granulated sugar

Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Spray a 9-inch pie plate (or an 8 or 9-inch square baking dish) with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until well combined. Add the cold cubed butter and using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture starts to come together and is crumbly. Stir in the oats and transfer to the refrigerator while you make the filling.

To make the topping:

Add the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg to a large mixing bowl and stir until all of the apple slices are well coated. Scoop the apples into the prepared baking dish. Remove the topping from the refrigerator and sprinkle on top of the filling.

Bake at 350°F (177°C) for 40 to 50 minutes or until the topping is lightly golden brown and the juices are bubbling around the edges.

Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.

Add the COLD cubed butter to the mixture and work together with your hands until you have a crumbly, not powdery mixture then set aside.

Add the brown sugar and corn starch to a large bowl then mix together. Peel apples and cut flesh from core. Cut into thin slices and transfer to the bowl.

Add the apples to the 8x8 baking dish in a few layers. Placing a few pats of butter throughout then top with the remaining apples.

Add the topping onto the apples and bake at 350F for about 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the juices are bubbling.

Ok so i made it exactly to the tee and I actually like it! It's not too sweet but it reminds me of when I used to go for cheesecake with my mom for lunch and order dessert back in the day and it wasn't that sweet but I like it! I may add a little more sugar next time just a little but I really like it and I did mine crustless as I do not like the crust on cheesecake. Here's my copy of it. 😊

It came out absolutely amazing. I followed the advice of other reviews to not add salt and did allspice instead of cinnamon in the cheesecake batter.

The recipe is a good start, but for my take on it, in the filling I left out the salt, used an extra 1/8 cup sugar, an extra 1/8 cup caramel, and pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon, then doubled both the apples and the crisp for the topping. The general consensus for the result was "amazing". There were no leftovers.  But the "15 min" prep time is a lie.  Even leaving the skins on the apples and using a nifty chopping tool to speed the process up, it still took me more than twice that to get it into the oven.

I love apples. Especially crumb style toppings on apples. But this one didnt get me going after I baked this one. The mix was very bland. Maybe add more sugar. Brown sugar preferably. Maybe another spice to give it a nice kick for the taste buds. The crumb topping was delicious though. Not sure I'll remake this one again. Didnt get to many raving reviews on it.

This was one of the worst recipes I have ever used! Everything went wrong for some reason. I even read all the reviews and used no salt, I added apple pie spice and apple pie filling to the cheesecake filling which make it taste better. I definitely will not be using this recipe again!

Made it this weekend. Was pretty good, but the cheesecake portion needed a bit more flavor. So maybe double the cinnamon or vanilla or caramel?? And don't dice the apples too small (like I did), otherwise that part of the flavor gets lost.

I'm making this as I type.  Once the cheesecake mixture was done, I too realized there wasn't much flavor.  I added 1/2 cup spiced rum, 1/4 extra sugar, 1/2 cup extra homemade caramel a heavy dash of nutmeg and extra cinnamon.  It made a huge difference!  It does taste more like a Thanksgiving Cheesecake now!  With the Apples and toppings, it's a very Harvest Dessert.  My kitchen smells wonderful!  🤗🎃😍

(70 grams) rolled oats

(94 g) all-purpose flour

(75 grams) brown sugar, lightly packed

⅓ cup (76 grams) unsalted butter, melted

In a 9&#8243; square or round baking dish, toss together all the filling ingredients.

In a medium bowl, mix together the oats, flour and brown sugar. Add in the melted butter and stir until all is moistened. Sprinkle the streusel evenly over the filling.

This was a lovely apple crisp, not too much sugar so it doesn't take away the little bit of tartness to the apples. As well as a delicious crumble topping. This is going to be my go-to when cooking apple crisp.

This is delicious!  I'm a terrible baker so I followed the recipe exactly and it came out wonderful!  I used gala apples and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  Soooooo good!  It's not overly sweet and the crumble adds a great texture.  Next time I have extra apples, I'll make this again!

Made these yummy. apple crisps and shared them  1/2  with used cupcake liners and the other 1/2 in nonstick sprayed cupcake tins. Next time I will make more apple filling

Really good and easier than I thought it would be to make. I made it vegan, using Earth Balance vegan butter - you can cut the amount of butter in half because mine were very greasy. Of course that didn't stop me from devouring them!

Made this three times. Goes over with all,including grand kid and adults.  Making them today to take to my ladies group, and serving them with ice cream.

This recipe is horrible, I thoroughly greased my muffin pan and all of my cups got stuck and broke apart when I attempted to take them out. Very upset that I wasted INGREDIENTS and TIME on this recipe. Will not be making again!!!

I highly recommend that you chill the dough for 1/2 hour before putting it into the muffin pan. It is very sticky and hard to work with.
