Oven roasted broccolini with garlic is an easy, nutritious side. Ready in 15, this versatile vegetable pairs with any of your favorite mains.

Roasted Broccolini

extra virgin olive oil

garlic (smashed and peeled)

salt

black pepper

Parmesan

red pepper flakes

lemon juice

Coat

Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Coat a large rimmed baking sheet with nonstick spray or line with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Trim

Trim off the end of the broccolini stems. If your broccoli stalks are thick, cut them in half lengthwise. You want all of the broccolini pieces to be roughly the same diameter. Place the broccolini in the center of the prepared baking sheet.

Drizzle

Place the garlic on top of the broccolini. Drizzle with the oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper (if using red pepper flakes, add them here).

Arrange

Toss to very thoroughly coat the broccolini with the oil and distribute the garlic evenly. Make sure all of the tips of the florets are nicely coated with oil to help protect them from burning. If any seem dry, drizzle on a little extra oil as needed. Arrange the broccolini in a single layer. Flip any cuts sides so that the cut part of the stem is touching the pan. (If you are adding Parmesan, sprinkle it over the top.)

Roast

Roast the broccolini for 10 to 15 minutes, until it is crisp-tender and beginning to char. Halfway through the baking time, rotate the pan 180 degrees. No need to turn the broccolini over. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with a pinch of additional salt and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice if desired. Enjoy immediately.

Sauteed baby broccoli, or broccolini is an easy, healthy vegetable side dish that only takes about 15 minutes to make. 

Sauteed Baby Broccoli (Broccoletti) with Lemon and Garlic

broccolini (baby broccoli, broccoletti)

garlic

lemon (zest of whole, juice of half, slices for garnish)

olive oil

Cut off the bottom half inch of the stalks of washed and dried broccolini.

Smash garlic cloves and remove papery skin. Zest lemon and set aside the lemon zest.

Heat a large skillet or saute pan over medium heat and add olive oil. Add in whole smashed garlic cloves and saute for about a minute until they become fragrant.

Add broccolini to skillet and use tongs to toss and coat. Saute for 4-5 minutes until it starts to turn bright green and the tips on the florets pick up a little bit of char. Season with a little bit of salt.

Carefully add water to the pan and immediately cover with a tight fitting lid. Steam for 2-3 minutes until crisp tender. Open the lid and squeeze over the juice of half a lemon. Season with more salt to taste if necessary.

Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with lemon zest, red pepper flakes and a drizzle of good olive oil. Garnish with the other half of the lemon cut into slices.

I made this with some crusty garlic bread and noodles and the family loved it! I was shocked that even my toddler who hates broccoli loved it. That being said, this is my new go to recipe for broccoli. Thanks Jess!
