In a medium bowl add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Mix to combine

In a separate bowl add the egg, milk,...

In a separate bowl add the egg, milk, vanilla and whisk together. Finally add the melted butter and whisk quickly

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients...

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk together well until no lumps remain and set aside

Preheat the waffle maker as per manufacturers instructions.

Depending on the size of the waffle maker...

Depending on the size of the waffle maker pour in the appropriate amount of batter (instructions will often suggest either 1/3rd of a cup or in the case of mine 1/2 a cup)

Close the lid and cook for up to...

The following recipe is adapted from the Li&egrave;ge Tourisme website (www.en.liegetourisme.be). It includes vanilla sugar, honey, cinnamon or powdered vanilla and some bicarbonate of soda. Make sure to preheat the waffle iron properly &ndash; it needs to be hot to stop the waffles from sticking to the cooking surfaces.&nbsp;

dl semi-skimmed milk

vanilla sugar

eggs

500 g margarine or softened butter

honey

salt

Cinnamon vanilla

g bicarbonate of soda

pearl sugar

The following recipe is adapted from the Visit Flanders website (www.visitflanders.com). If desired, dust the waffles with powdered sugar or decorate with some whipped cream.&nbsp;

Brussels Waffles

flour

butter

milk

water

Vanilla essence

g/pinch salt

Flank Steak with Potatoes & Green Beans

oz Flank steak

Shallot

Green beans (fresh)

Dab Butter (unsalted)

lb Baby potatoes

Wash the baby potatoes. Add them to a pot of salted boiling water. Cook for 10 min, or until fork-tender. Remove the potatoes with a slotted spoon. Keep the pot over heat.

Wash & trim the green beans. Add the green beans to the same pot of water. Cook for 2-3 min.

Melt a dab of butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the shallots. Cook, stirring for 2 min.

Add another dab of butter & the steak to the pan. Cook the steak for 3 min on each side, basting it with the shallot butter.

When the steak is cooked to your liking, remove it from the pan. Add a splash of water to the pan to deglaze it & stir. 

Serve the steak alongside the green beans & potatoes. Season with salt & pepper. Pour the shallot-butter sauce over all! Enjoy!
