I love this easy method of making the candied nuts where everything goes into the pan at once. Other methods I've tried left me with globs of candy on the nuts rather than a more even coating. It also roasts the nuts at the same time so you don't have to pre-toast them, then add them back to the pan to be coated, blah, blah. Who needs extra steps? It seriously takes about 5 minutes on the stove and 5 minutes to cool. P.S. This recipe can easily be doubled.

5 minute Candied Walnuts

walnut halves/pieces (you can also use this recipe

white granulated sugar ((not coarse sugar))

unsalted butter

Heat a medium non-stick skillet over medium heat, add 1 cup walnuts, 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 Tbsp butter.

Heat over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring frequently so your mixture doesn't burn (especially towards the end). When the sugar mixture starts melting, stir constantly until all sugar is melted and nuts are coated.

Transfer immediately onto a sheet of parchment paper and separate the nuts right away. Using two spatulas will make this task go faster. You don't want to give the nuts a chance to turn into a wad of inseparable delicious goodness unless you are the only person who will be enjoying the wad ;). Seriously, move quickly from the time the nuts are coated until they are separated out on the parchment paper.

Once the coating hardens (5-7 minutes), you can transfer them to a bowl and enjoy!

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Line a sheet pan with a silicon baking mat or parchment paper.

Place the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt in a small bowl. Mix until thoroughly combined.

In a large bowl, whisk the egg white with the water until the mixture is frothy. Pour the walnuts into the egg white mixture and toss to coat. Pour in the cinnamon sugar mixture and stir until nuts are thoroughly coated in the sugar.

Place the nuts in a single layer on the sheet pan.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, stirring halfway through the baking time, until the coating on the nuts has hardened.

Cool completely and store in an airtight container until ready for use.

Sweet n' Salty Maple Walnuts

c. walnut halves and pieces ((112 g))

Tbsp. pure maple syrup ((30 ml))

First - measure out one cup of walnut halves and add them to a dry frying pan. Turn the fire on medium-high heat to begin the toasting process. While the nuts are toasting, place a sheet of parchment paper somewhere on the counter very close by.

Once the nuts are fragrant and take on a slightly darker color (after about three minutes), add roughly two tablespoons of pure 100% maple syrup to the pan. Quickly grab a spoon and stir the nuts in with the syrup.

After about 15 seconds or so, most of the syrup should be stuck to the walnuts.  At this point, you&#x27;ll want to immediately remove the pan from the heat and carefully poor those nuts onto the parchment paper.  Use your spoon to spread them out into a single layer as best you can.

While the walnuts are still warm, take some salt, (the coarse type, if you have it) and evenly sprinkle it over the top.

Once the nuts are completely cool, break them apart with your fingers so that they are no longer stuck together.

Melt butter, cook, until browned.

In a large saute pan, melt the butter on medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium. Then, add the walnuts, white granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix until all the sugar has coated the walnuts. Continue cooking and stirring for 2 minutes on medium heat until all sugar has dissolved on walnuts.

Pour the candied walnuts on parchment.

Remove the candied walnuts off the heat and pour the candied walnuts on a sheet of parchment paper.

Spread and let cool for 10 minutes.

Spread the candied walnuts out and allow to cool and harden for at least 10 minutes. Store candied walnuts in a sealed container for up to one week.

5 Minute Candied Walnuts Recipe

Prepare work space

Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper and place it on your stove alongside a pair of easily accessible tongs.

Heat walnuts

In a large, non-stick skillet, add your sugar, butter, and walnuts.

Stir

Over medium-low heat stir constantly until your ingredients begin to melt.

Add water

Around the 3-minute mark you&#039;ll start seeing the caramel thicken, become gooey, and brown, add in your water. Nuts will be deep golden brown, and sticky-

Using tongs, transfer to the baking sheet and separate them from sticking together.

Preheat oven with racks in the center to 300F / 150C. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, salt, curry powder and lemon zest.

In a large bowl whisk the egg whites a bit, just to loosen them up. Add the walnuts to the whites and toss until they are evenly coated - it'll take a minute or so. Sprinkle the sugar-spice mixture over the nuts and toss (really well) again, another minute or so.

Split the nuts between the two prepared baking sheets in a single layer, separating them the best you can.

Bake for 25-35 minutes or until the walnuts are toasted golden and the coating is hard and dry. The walnuts and coating should be deeply golden where it touches the pan. Remove from oven.

Cool for ten minutes on the pan. Slide the parchment/nuts off the hot baking sheets onto a cool surface to cool completely.

When completely cooled, store in an air-tight container for up to a few weeks. They can also be stored in the freezer for up to a few months.

Heat a pan over medium high heat and place the walnuts in the pan. Roast for 3-5 minutes, until lightly browned, stirring often to avoid the walnuts burning. Set aside for now.

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, white sugar, salt and cayenne pepper. Add the water and mix again. Pour in a cold pan and place over medium heat. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 5-10 minutes, until golden brown and all the sugar has melted. Take care so that the sugars don&#39;t burn . Do not stir after the mixture has started boiling - if it browns unevenly, instead tip the pan a bit to mix.

DIY Brown Sugar Candied Walnuts

Prep baking sheet: 

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Combine walnuts and brown sugar: 

Mix walnuts and brown sugar together in a large saucepan and set on a stove-top over medium heat (or just below).

Cook: 

As the brown sugar melts, use a wooden spoon to move the mixture around in the saucepan, making sure that all of the nuts get coated and none of the sugar stays in one place long enough to burn. Don't walk away from the stove; this will happen very quickly! Cook for about 5 minutes at the most, until all of the sugar has melted and all of the nuts are coated (or immediately if you smell anything burning).

Transfer to baking sheet: 

Remove pan from heat and quickly spread the nuts out on the lined baking sheet to prevent them from drying in a clump.

Garnish: 

Sprinkle nuts with sea salt, if desired, and allow to cool for a couple minutes before eating or using in a recipe.

I've made these twice, the first time I followed the recipe, and they turned out great!
The second time, I didn't look up your recipe, and added a step that I wasn't sure was 
yours, so I came back to look--nope! This is what I did: I added an unnecessary step, I presoaked the walnuts in room temp water for about 5 minutes, drained, then finished the actual recipe steps.  I will probably only do this again when I know that I will be using ALL of the nuts in one serving, but the crispness on the outside, and a tender inside was slightly different and really nice. I'll let you know how they behave when stored in a few days!

Maple Candied Walnuts

Preheat the oven to 350ºF and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the walnuts, maple syrup and salt.

Stir often, until the walnuts are toasted and the maple syrup is starting to stick to the nuts, about 3-5 minutes. The walnuts should look glossy, with less maple syrup visible on the pan.

Transfer the cooked walnuts to the parchment lined baking sheet, and use two forks or spatulas to carefully separate the nuts into a single layer. (Don&#39;t use your hands, the hot maple syrup will stick to them!)

Place the walnuts in the oven to bake at 350ºF for 5 to 7 minutes, then remove the pan and let them cool completely. (This should take 15 minutes or so.) When the walnuts are cool, break apart any nuts that have cooked together, and enjoy them straight off the pan, or in a serving bowl.

These candied walnuts can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 week, or for up to 1 month in the fridge. Serve them over salads for extra crunch!

Easy candied nuts naturally sweetened with maple syrup instead of refined sugar. Delicious for snacking, salads, topping sweet potatoes, gift-giving, etc.

Maple-Vanilla Candied Nuts

walnuts* (or pecans

vanilla extract (more if desired)

Combine all ingredients in a medium non-stick sauté pan over medium heat.

Stir well with a spatula to thoroughly coat and combine.

Bring mixture to a light simmer (soft bubbles not vigorously bubbling) stirring occasionally.

Reduce heat to medium-low (to prevent burning). The mixture will be thin/liquidy at first, and then becomes very thick/sticky after a few minutes. Continue lightly simmering until the maple syrup has crystallized, about 20 minutes total, stirring often. (If the nuts are sticky, then keep going. Low and slow is the key.)

When nuts are crystallized (see photos for texture reference), pour the candied nuts out onto a flat surface. (I place a sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet.) Gently spread them out with a spatula and let cool.

Since I’m a huge fan of your dinner recipes, I thought it was time to try a snack food. Made this recipe this morning.  I wish I hadn’t waited so long to try these!  Wow! Holy moley!! These are amazing! I roasted my raw nuts before hand just for an added depth of flavor and boy oh boy was I blown away. I was skeptical of the candying process on the stovetop. So glad I stuck with it!

These are AMAZING! I did walnuts and  LOVE that it’s a stovetop recipe and didn’t need to turn on the oven in this heat. Mine crystallized in about 10-11 minutes so keep an eye on them! My daughter and I use them on our fresh spinach salads.
