Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas Recipe

pork shoulder roast

Corn tortillas

Place pork shoulder in slow cooker and add cumin, onion, jalapeno, beer, apple cider vinegar, chipotle peppers, salt and pepper.  Cut one orange and one lime in half and squeeze the juice into the slow cooker.  Throw in the squeezed orange halves.  Cook on high heat for about 4-5 hours, or until meat is tender and falling off the bone.

Remove the pork from the slow cooker and place on a large baking sheet. Use a fork to shred it. Spread it out in an even layer and drizzle it with orange juice from the second orange. Season with additional salt if required.

Place it under the broiler for about 5 minutes. Remove and stir. Broil for another 5 minutes and stir. Repeat the process 4-5 times until the pork carnitas is crisp around the edges. Broil more or less depending on preference.&nbsp;

Serve meat with tortillas, orange and lime juice, diced onions, avocado and cilantro.  If you would like some spice, add your favorite salsa or some diced peppers.

For a soft, pliable corn tortilla, heat 1 tbsp. of oil with 1 tbsp of the cooking liquid in a skillet. Fry the tortilla until soft and lightly browned, about 1 minutes per side. Continue with remaining tortillas.&nbsp;

Cut the pork shoulder into large 4-inch chunks. Place in the slow cooker.

Add the lime juice, salt, ground cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, dried oregano, onion powder and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to coat the meat with all the seasonings.

Cover and cook on high for 4 hours, or on low for 7-8 hours. When tender, shred the meat by pulling it apart with two forks.

Mix in freshly chopped cilantro if desired and serve in tacos, gorditas, tostadas, burrito bowls and salads.

Lock the lid and set the steam release vent to the &quot;sealing&quot; position. Press the &quot;manual&quot; button and set the timer on high pressure for 40 minutes.

When the 40 minutes are up, let the pressure naturally release for 15 minutes. Then manually release the remaining pressure by moving the steam release vent to the &quot;venting&quot; position.

Open the lid and shred the meat with two forks. Mix in freshly chopped cilantro if desired and serve in tacos, gorditas, tostadas, burrito bowls and salads.

The BEST Carnitas (Slow Cooker Pulled Pork)

Stir

In a small bowl place oregano, cumin, black pepper, salt, and chili powder, then stir together.

Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder (but remember that some fat is good), then rub the spice mixture generously around the entire pork shoulder and place in the slow cooker.

Cook

Add the onion, minced garlic, jalapeno and orange juice in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on the low setting for 8-10 hours, or high heat for 5-6 hours (until the meat falls apart).

Shred

Remove the pork from the slow cooker to a large cutting board and use two forks to shred the meat. Don&#039;t get rid of the liquid as you will be using it later.

How to Make Carnitas

Place

Place the shredded pork on a baking sheet. Pour 1 cup of the reserved slow cooker liquid over the pork to keep it moist and tender.

Broil

Broil for 5-10 minutes or until the meat becomes golden browned and crispy on the edges.

CRISPY PORK CARNITAS | easy slow-cooker carnitas recipe

Pork is seasoned and slow-cooked, until it&#x27;s fall-apart, fork-tender. We like to serve this taco night favorite in a variety of ways, with sautéed sweet peppers!

Carnitas Recipe

pork shoulder (aka Boston butt)

kosher salt

Heat a 5 to 7 quart Dutch oven over medium to medium-high heat. Add oil. When oil is hot and starts to shimmer, add pork. Cook until nicely browned and then turn, repeating that same process until all sides are browned. Add broth, onion, oregano, cumin, and paprika. Turn heat up a bit to bring liquid to a boil. Then spoon some of the hot liquid over the top of the meat.

Heat a wide skillet over medium heat - I like to use a large cast iron skillet. Add butter and olive oil. When the butter has melted, add the peppers, stirring to coat. Cook for about 10 minutes, letting them soften up. Then turn up the heat to medium-high. Let the peppers start to darken and char, stirring every couple minutes. Transfer peppers to serving dish.

With a large spoon, push meat off the bone in chunks; discard bone and any large pieces of fat. Transfer pork back to French oven and turn on heat to medium-high. Cook, stirring with a large wooden spoon to break up pork, until liquid in French oven has almost entirely evaporated and meat begins to sizzle and caramelize, 5 to 10 minutes. The meat should pull into shreds very easily.

Instant Pot Carnitas

orange juice (from about 1 large orange)

garlic (minced (about 1 tablespoon))

chipotle chile powder

jalapeño (stemmed, seeded and diced)

Flour or corn tortillas (or cooked brown rice)

Salt

Season the pork on all sides with 2 teaspoons of the salt. Let sit for 30 minutes to come to room temperature.

In a mixing bowl or large measuring cup, stir together the orange juice, garlic, vinegar, chipotle chile powder, cumin, chili powder, oregano, and black pepper. Set aside.

Saute

Warm the oil in the Instant Pot, using the pot’s sauté function. Add the onion and jalapeño. Cook until the onion is beginning to soften, about 5 minutes.

Broth

Turn the Instant Pot off. Splash in about half of the broth. With a wooden spoon or sturdy spatula, remove any stuck-on bits of food (there may not be any, but if there are, they must be removed or the Instant Pot could register a BURN warning).

Pork

Add the pork, then pour in the remaining broth and the orange juice mixture. Turn the pork pieces to combine the ingredients and coat the pork evenly on all sides.

Close and seal the Instant Pot. Cook on HIGH pressure for 45 minutes. Once the pressure has built and the time has elapsed, let the pressure release naturally for 15 minutes.

Oven

Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven's broiler to high. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with foil.

With two forks, shred the pork directly in the Instant Pot, discarding any large bits of remaining fat. Stir the pork in the sauce to coat it evenly.

Tortillas

Use a spoon to scoop the pork onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread the pork into an even layer. Broil the pork for 3 to 5 minutes, until the edges of the pork begin browning and crisping up (don&#39;t walk away! It can quickly start to burn).

To warm the tortillas, wrap them in foil and pop them into the oven’s center rack while the pork broils. Or, you can heat the tortillas in a dry skillet on the stove.

Toss

Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Lightly toss and stir the pork to expose unbroiled sides. Return the pan to the oven and broil for 3 to 5 minutes more (the meat should become nice and crispy at its edges). Enjoy hot, piled into warm tortillas or over rice with toppings of choice.

These Instant Pot Carnitas (Mexican Pulled Pork), are a favorite easy meal. The pork is seasoned with a simple blend of spices and then pressure cooked with orange juice, lime juice, onion and garlic until it is fall apart tender. Crisp it up in the oven and enjoy deliciously juicy, crispy pork carnitas!

pork butt or pork shoulder*

orange juice (from 2 oranges)

lime juice (from 2 limes)

garlic (minced)

Cut the pork into large 2 to 3-inch chunks. Place in the Instant Pot.

In a small bowl, combine the dried oregano, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Sprinkle over the pork and rub over all sides of the pieces of pork. Add the orange juice, lime juice, onion and garlic to the Instant Pot.

Close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the sealing position. Use the Pressure Cook or Manual function to set the cook time to 45 minutes at high pressure. The Instant Pot will take about 15 minutes to reach pressure and then the cook time will begin counting down.

When the cook time ends, allow the pot to naturally release pressure for 15 minutes (just leave the Instant Pot alone).

Quick release any remaining pressure by turning the steam release valve to the venting position using the handle of a long spoon. Once all steam has escaped and the pin drops down, carefully open the Instant Pot lid.

Use two forks to shred the pork, discarding excess fat. You can serve the pork now, or (the best way!) crisp it under the broiler. To crisp pork, spread it out in a single layer on a foil-lined rimmed baking sheet. Add a little of the juices from the Instant Pot to the pork, but not too much. Put pork under the broiler in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes, until the edges start to crisp.

Serve in tortillas or as desired.

These are the easiest crockpot carnitas and simple enough for anyone to make! Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly browned with a crispy crust.

Place the pork shoulder in the slow cooker. Roughly chop the garlic and place in the slow cooker (I actually kind of rubbed it onto the meat to get as much garlic flavor as possible, but you could just toss it in, too).

Sprinkle the meat with salt, cumin, chili powder, black pepper, oregano, cinnamon, and cayenne. Rub seasonings onto the pork.

Add lime juice, orange juice, beer, and salsa. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.

Shred meat with two forks directly in the slow cooker (or take out, shred, and replace in sauce). It should fall apart easily.

Preheat broiler. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place the shredded meat on the cooking sheet and pour a few spoonfuls of sauce over the top. Broil for 5-10 minutes or until you get browned edges on the pork.
