These Danish Smørrebrød or open faced sandwiches are probably the best sandwiches you will ever eat, easy to put together, yet impressive in appearance, so versatile and incredibly delicious.

Open Faced Sandwiches – Smørrebrød – Danish Food

Traditional pickled herring smørrebrød:

rye bread

Danish remoulade (or butter)

pickled herrings, depending

onion

gherkins

fresh dill or thyme

cayenne pepper

Smoked salmon and cucumber smørrebrød:

mayonnaise

salmon

cucumber

lemon

cayenne pepper, optional

Salami smørrebrød:

butter

salami

tomato

parsley

Avocado and egg smørrebrød:

½ avocado (or a very small whole one)

lemon juice

salt

coriander parsley leaves

black pepper, smoked would be great

Havarti cheese and tomato smørrebrød:

lettuce leaves

Havarti (or another sliced cheese you like)

salt and black pepper

We have taken the humble sandwich to the next level with this Halloumi and Roasted Red Pepper Sandwich. Kind of like a vegetarian BLT, it is stacked up high with fillings and showing you that a sandwich never needs to be boring.

Halloumi and Roasted Red Pepper Sandwich

wholewheat bread

tbsp tomato chutney

150 g lighter Halloumi

avocado (sliced)

red peppers

sun blushed tomatoes (sliced)

g rocket lettuce

Cut the halloumi in to 1cm thick slices. Dry fry in a non-stick frying pan for 1-2 minutes each side.

Toast the bread and spread with chutney or hummus. Add the halloumi, peppers, avocado and tomatoes.

Add the rocket (arugula) and another slice of toasted bread.

Perfectly cooked halloumi, peppery lettuce, chutney, creamy avocado, sun-dried tomatoes and some sweet roasted red peppers in between your favourite bread. Sandwich perfection!

There’s nothing more simple to make and satisfying to enjoy than a warm, crisp and gooey cheese sandwich. Here I share two ways to prepare an easy grilled cheese sandwich in less than 20 minutes. Try your preferred recipe for a quick and yummy breakfast, lunch, or even dinner.

Cheese Sandwich Recipe (2 Ways)

bread ((preferred soft bread of your choice))

Butter

cheddar cheese

thyme

oregano

red chilli flakes (- optional)

black pepper

basil basil

celery (- optional)

salt (or as required)

salted butter (- softened

cheddar cheese (or

cumin powder (or as required)

chaat masala (or sandwich masala, add as required)

First, slice your bread loaf in ½ inches slices. You want about 8 to 10 slices total, depending on how many cheese sandwiches you decide to make.

Spread softened butter evenly on the bread slices.

Top half of the slices with 3 to 4 tablespoons or more (depending on the size of the bread slices) of freshly grated cheddar or mozzarella cheese, or a mix of both.

Sprinkle with a pinch or two of various dried herbs, red chilli flakes and crushed black pepper. I have used parsley, thyme and oregano with a few bits of red chilli pepper flakes.

Top lightly with some chopped fresh basil and finely chopped celery. You can use dried basil in place of fresh basil.

Sprinkle one to pinches of salt evenly all over. If you don’t have fresh celery, swap with celery salt, and omit the salt.

Cover the cheese topped bread with the buttered slice.

Heat a heavy or a thick bottomed skillet, or a frying pan, on low to medium-low heat on the stovetop. Melt and then spread the butter on the skillet. Place the prepared cheese sandwich on the melted butter.

Spread some more softened butter on top of the cheese sandwich.

Gently press the sandwich with a spatula so that you can get nice, evenly toasted and crispy texture. You can even place a heavy object, like a clean plate, on the sandwich.

When the bottom is crusty and golden, flip over gently with a spatula. Grill the second side for few minutes until crisp and golden, pressing with the spatula for even cooking.

Remove the grilled cheese sandwich from the skillet. Transfer to a chopping board and cut in two. Serve hot with Ketchup, Mayonnaise or any dip of your choice.

Make all the cheese sandwiches this way on the skillet. If you have a large skillet, grill two or three sandwiches side by side on the skillet.

Skillet Method

First grate the cheese and set aside. Then spread the softened butter on each of the bread slice.

Top half of the bread slices with 3 to 4 tablespoons of grated cheese or more as needed, depending on the size of the bread.

Sprinkle two to three pinches of black pepper powder, cumin powder and chaat masala on each slice which is topped with grated cheese.

Cover the cheese topped bread slices with the remaining buttered bread slices.

Spread butter on top of each slice.

On a heated panini press place the sandwich carefully with the buttered side touching the bottom grill.

Spread butter on the top bread slices. Close the panini press or the sandwich maker and grill for 2 to 3 minutes until the sandwiches are crisp and golden.

Serve grilled cheese sandwich hot as is or accompanied with Coriander Chutney or tomato ketchup or mayo.

Cheese Sandwich

A toasted cheese sandwich that is anything but ordinary – oozing with camembert and topped with cranberry sauce to give it a Christmas kick

Pan-fried camembert sandwich

white bread

camembert

cranberry sauce

balsamic vinegar

Butter the bread. Put a wedge of camembert or brie on the unbuttered side of one slice of bread. Top with a spoonful of cranberry sauce. Drizzle with a few drops of balsamic vinegar, if you have some.

Put the second slice of bread on top, buttered side out. Fry in a hot non-stick pan, pressing down with a fish slice, for a minute or two on each side, until golden brown and melting. Cut in half and eat straightaway.

There&#39;s nothing more British than a plain cold cheese sandwich, and here I&#39;ll show you the best way to make it!

Classic Cheese Sandwich

Thick Soft White Sandwich Bread

Cheese, (shaved with a potato peeler (see notes))

Butter, (as needed)

Crisps ((optional))

Liberally butter one side of each slice of bread.

Top one side with cheese. Add crisps if using.

Add second slice on top butter-side-down, gently press to secure the filling, then slice in half and enjoy!

Apple Bacon and Cheddar Grilled Cheese is a sweet and savory sandwich that combines all of your favorite flavors. Sweet fuji apples sliced thinly and paired with smoky bacon on top of cheddar and mozzarella cheeses on sourdough bread. You can&#39;t go wrong with this one!

Apple Bacon and Cheddar Grilled Cheese

Dijon Mustard

tbsp Mayo

tsp Everything But The Bagel seasoning

tsp honey

Fresh Sage, chopped

Bacon

Fuji Apple, sliced thinly

Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded

Mozzarella Cheese, shredded

Fresh Thyme

tbsps Salted Butter

Preheat oven to 375 ° F. Cook bacon on a baking sheet for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and crisp. Increase oven temperature to 400 °F.

In a small bowl, mix together dijon mustard, mayo, everything but the bagel seasoning, honey and freshly chopped sage leaves. Add a pinch of salt and stir together.

Add about 1 tablespoon of the dijon mixture to two slices of sourdough bread. Sprinkle cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top (add as much or as little as desired). Place 3-4 slices of bacon and 5-6 slices of apple on top of cheese. Sprinkle 1-2 thyme leaves on top. Push sandwich together and place on an oven safe skillet/frypan. Add 1 tbsp of butter on top of the bread and place 1 tbsp on butter in the pan.

Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes, until cheese is visibly melted.

Remove pan from the oven and bring to the stove top over medium high heat. Add additional butter and cook on both sides for 2-3 minutes.

I made this for lunch yesterday with dijon mustard and am still thinking about it today. Delicious!
