This is a dish that I grew up eating with my Japanese side of the family and I love it!

tofu

tbsp low-sodium soy sauce

tsp grated ginger

green onion, finely chopped

Drain the water from the package of tofu and cut into 1-inch cubes.&nbsp;

In a mixing bowl, whisk together low-sodium soy sauce or tamari and grated ginger. Stir in the green onion, reserving some for the garnish on the top. Pour the sauce over the tofu cubes and serve.

Spicy Cold tofu or Liangban doufu is a great summer dish that is easy to make and delicious. Spicy bean sauce, sesame oil, raw scallions, and garlic form the character of this 5 minute spicy cold tofu recipe.

Spicy Cold Tofu (Liangban Dofu)

soy sauce

spicy bean paste

sesame oil

scallion ((chopped))

Put the soy sauce, bean paste, sesame oil, and sugar in a small bowl. Add half the garlic and half the scallions. Mix it all together.

Slice the tofu and lay it in your serving bowl.

Drizzle the sauce over it and garnish with the rest of the garlic and scallion on top. You can also garnish with a bit of chopped Thai basil and/or cilantro. You can also stir in a chopped thousand year old egg.

Cold tofu, Hiyayakko is a traditional and typical summer Japanese dish that is topped with bonito flakes, shallots, grated ginger and soy sauce!

Cold Tofu

300 g Silken or Firm Tofu (*1)

tbs soy sauce (*2)

0.5 tbs rice vinegar

tsp sesame seed oil

tsp tobanjan

sesame seeds

shiso leaves

myoga (Japanese ginger)

tbsp finely chopped scallions

tbsp bonito flakes

Chill the tofu and take it out of the fridge just before starting cooking.

Wash and wrap the tofu with a kitchen paper towel.

Prepare Tofu

Slice shiso leaves, and myoga. Chop the scallions finely and set aside.

Prepare Toppings

Cut the tofu in half and place each on a separate serving plate.

Garnish with prepared toppings.

Mix soy sauce and mirin and pour over the chilled tofu and toppings.

This is an incredibly easy silken tofu recipe that you can prepare in 20 minutes or less. Hoisin Peanut Lime Cold Silken Tofu

lb silken or soft tofu ((see notes))

hoisin sauce

tbsp peanut butter (I used chunky peanut butter)

tbsp lime juice (juice from 2 small limes)

sugar (adjust

garlic (minced)

soy sauce (or

chili oil (optional

tsp sesame oil

water (to water down the sauce)

shallots

green onions

noodles

soy sauce (optional

Prepare the silken tofu: remove the silken tofu from the packaging and drain any excess water. You can leave it to sit on a plate while you prepare the sauce since the tofu will continue to release more water that you can discard later on before pouring the sauce.

I like the tofu really cold so I place this in the refrigerator while I prepare the sauce.

SILKEN TOFU

Prepare the sauce: mix everything together and feel free to adjust to your desired taste.

SAUCE

Noodles: I like to cook a batch of noodles to mix with the sauce. I use wheat noodles and cook this until chewy to my liking.

NOODLES

Pour the sauce over the tofu.

Top with toppings of your choice - I used green onions and fried shallots.

For the extra sauce, I like using this with cooked noodles. I use wheat noodles that I cooked until chewy to my liking.

Place the freshly cooked noodles in a bowl and pour the leftover hoisin peanut lime sauce along with some soy sauce to taste, and chili oil, for extra spice. Mix well.

Enjoy your tofu and noodles! This is a great complete meal you can prepare in 20 minutes or less.

TO SERVE

This is a recipe for cold silken tofu with hoisin peanut lime sauce. The sauce is made with hoisin sauce, peanut butter, lime juice, sugar, garlic, soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, and water. Cold-tossed tofu (凉拌豆腐 - liángbàn dòufu) is easy enough to make in minutes—any night of the week. No cooking required, but so much flavor!

Cold-Tossed Tofu (凉拌豆腐)

chili oil ((optional; I used 2 teaspoons))

In a large bowl, combine minced garlic, light soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, sugar and white pepper. Mix until the sugar is dissolved.

Add the cubed tofu, red onion, and cilantro. Gently toss until combined. Serve! (Or make up to 1 day in advance, and keep chilled until ready to serve.)

I'm visiting a friend with a teeny tiny kitchen and never managed to cook up the tofu I bought.  I found this recipe and voila! lunch!  I didn't measure anything but it still came out great.  I subbed allulose syrup for the sugar (because my friend is diabetic and that's all she had) and added some scallion.  I didn't bother to do anything but cut the firm tofu and it worked just fine.  Thanks!

Craving!! I made this the other day, but the sauce turned out a bit watered down because of the liquid released from the tofu—even though I had drained it for a few minutes. I ended up pouring off the excess liquid from the dish and whipping up a fresh batch of sauce, and that made a big difference! Yummy!

Already a fan of other WoL quick, cold recipes and this one was scrumptious as expected. I thought it might need a bit of time to marinate, but it was amazing right out the gate. I used a homemade chili oil which has a great fragrance, and easily scarfed half the dish.

I like to use nutritional yeast instead of corn starch for a coating on the tofu before pan frying or wokking
