This slow cooker chili is a blend of beef, beans, tomatoes and spices, all simmered together in the crock pot for a rich and hearty dish. Crock pot chili is perfect for parties and any occasion where you need to feed a crowd!

Slow Cooker Chili

olive oil

beef (I use 90% lean)

onion (finely diced)

garlic

28 ounce can diced tomatoes (do not drain)

tomato sauce

beef broth

chili powder

cumin

smoked paprika

cocoa powder

sugar

salt (divided use)

pepper

dark red kidney beans (drained and rinsed)

sour cream and green onions

Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium high heat. Add the beef and season with 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until beef is browned and cooked through.

Place the ground beef in the slow cooker along with the onion, garlic, tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cocoa powder, sugar and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Stir to combine, then cover and cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours. Add the beans and cook for an additional 20 minutes until beans are warmed through. Serve immediately.&nbsp;

I've made this recipe several times - both with turkey and beef. It's come out pretty well and has been popular. However, I have found it can come out a bit bland and really needs some additional flavor - more of the ones already included and I have tried others (brown sugar, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, etc). Any ideas or additions anyone has found to work well?

Very little flavor after 7 hours in a slow cooker

this recipe came out delicious the only difference was I cooked it on high in the slow cooker and it only took about 3 1/2 hrs

and added more seasoning after about 1hr 1/2

This was a hit with my kids. They don't like chili but with fritos they ate it all!

Beef Chili That's Perfect On Crisp Fall Days

Crock Pot Chicken Taco Chili is an easy slow cooker dump recipe using freezer and pantry staples! This has been one of my most popular recipes since 2008!

Crock Pot Chicken Taco Chili

onion

15.5 oz can black beans, drained

kidney beans, drained

corn kernels

10 oz cans diced tomatoes w/chilies

green chili peppers (chopped)

tbsp cumin

tbsp chili powder

oz 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts

cilantro

garlic powder

onion powder

salt

Combine beans, onion, chili peppers, corn, tomato sauce, diced tomato, cumin, chili powder and taco seasoning in a slow cooker and mix well.

Nestle the chicken in to completely cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 6 hours.

Half hour before serving, remove chicken and shred.

Return chicken to slow cooker and stir in.

Top with fresh cilantro and your favorite toppings!

This easy Crock Pot Chili recipe only takes about 15 minutes to prep before you slow cook it all day long for the best crock pot chili. Mild enough for the whole family, but still packed with tons of flavor!

Crock Pot Chili

extra virgin olive oil

(16 oz) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed

(16 tomato sauce

(16 oz) can diced tomatoes

Worcestershire sauce

hot sauce (such as Tobasco)

liquid peppers

water

Shredded cheese and sour cream,

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet. Add the onion and cook, just until translucent. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up as it cooks, until it is browned and cooked through.

Place the pinto beans, kidney beans, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes in a large slow cooker. Stir in the chili powder, oregano, cumin and garlic powder. Stir in the cooked ground beef mixture.  Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and pepper liquid. If the chili is too thick, stir in the water.

Cook on low for at least 4 hours, but it can cook on low all day long!

I love using my slow cooker during football season. Throw all the ingredients together then go and watch the games. Before you know it, it’s time to eat!  Great reciepe.

Amazing! Made this last night and my husband d isn’t a fan of chili but my son requested it for his birthday dinner.. my husband ate two big bowls! Definitely saving this recipe.

I’ve made this several times and it’s a hit. I even have to make sure and put aside a bowl to go for my friend cause he gets mad if he knows I made it and wasn’t invited over

I am going to cook it for at least six hours. Reheat the next day will even be better. 
I used dried beans softened in an Instant Pot. Steamed for 25 minutes then let naturally cool down. I used 1lb of kidney beans, 1/2 lb black beans )negra frijoles), 1/4 lb of pinto bean. Probably several cups more than Deborah's recipe. 
Due to using more beans I had to add more chile powder. 
I put in a pinch of cinnamon, seems to give a creamy, slightly chocolate flavor.

I made a double batch in my crock pot..  Husband loves it

Made it yesterday, with a pan of cornbread. Put a piece of cornbread in the bowl put the chili on top. I know whats for Super this year, but with have to borrow or buy another slow cooker, one won't  be big enough.

I think this is the best chili I've had in awhile. I just put it in the crock pot and gave it a little taste. It's still cool but I can tell this is gonna be really yummy after it cooks alll day!

This is going to be yummy!!! While I didn't have the pepperocini juice or Tabasco, I just used 2 Tbsp Worcestershire and the tiniest pinch of cayenne instead and it gave it the perfect heat. I adjusted all the seasonings to my personal taste and also added a dash of Adobo, extra cumin, paprika, and even a squirt of soy sauce to the beef &amp; onions as they were cooking. I'm all about flavor - no bland chili for this chick 😄 I haven't even turned on the crockpot yet and already just scooping it out with a spoon, it's delicious! I love this recipe and made it many times. This time I tweeked it just a bit and added a whole cup of water plus one Tbsp of beef boullion and about 3 or 5 Tbsp of sugar. My husband said this was the best chili he has ever had.

I love this recipe. Great crock pot meal, esp for busy weekends. I assemble the whole thing the night before want to serve it and then cook all day on low. The spice level is a good compromise- has a little kick, but not too much for those who like it milder. I’ve made for family and also served at a pot luck with friends and it’s always a hit.

We LOVED this recipe. I added an extra table spoon of chilli powder and used sriracha for the hot sauce. Also added corn, carrots, celery and mushrooms!! Yum yum!

This recipe is wonderful.  I absolutely love the hint of pepperoncini it has in the chili.

I doubled the recipe, next time I will.cut the tomato sauce in half, and skip the water. 

My crock pot has a rubber seal, perhaps other crock pots need the extra water fluids.

Crock Pot Sweet Potato Chipotle Chili {Paleo, whole 30}

Crock Pot Sweet Potato Chipotle Chili {Paleo}

potatoes

broth (use 2 cups

oz tomatoes

tsp minced garlic

chipotles

1 tsp cumin

tsp black pepper

sea salt

bell peppers

Cilantro and optional sliced jalapeno to garnish

Optional toppings: Cheese, tortilla chips, etc. omit if paleo or Whole30

First chop and peel your potatoes. Place in a microwave safe bowl and steam with 1 tbsp water in them for 3 minutes or until tender. Discard water.

Brown meat in a skillet, drain grease. Place meat on plate. In the same skillet, saute onion until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Then place in browned meat and onion in the crock pot.

Add your broth, canned tomatoes, sweet potato, cauliflower, and mix all together.

Finally, add your seasonings and chipotle peppers with sauce. Add your bell pepper here if you are using it.

Stir and cook on high for 3-4 hrs. If you browned your meat prior then cooking time will be less. Around 1-2 hrs high, checking at 1 hour or so..

Add more paprika and or black pepper/sea salt when finished cooking if desired.

Garnish with fresh cilantro and optional jalapeno.

It'll be another month till we get the turkey out here, but in advance of that, I'm pinning this recipe now. This would be a fab recipe to use that leftover turkey with! Thanks Lindsay. Happy Thanksgiving, hope you guys are having fun!

I have one of the pickiest kids ever... he will not eat chili, most meats, etc.  I doubled this recipe as I have a large family.  I expected with mr picky and some family members not being home that it would easily give us dinner for 2 nights doubled.  I was WRONG.  Mr picky ate it for dinner and brought it to school the next day for lunch.  I left it in the crockpot all day as I live out of town...  it was cooking on low for 9 hrs and then "keep warm" until I got home.. .possibly a little mushier than it would normally be, but it tasted great.  Managed to get 2 lunch sized portions out of the leftovers.  Will definitely be making again!

This recipe was so yummy, and is sure to be a favorite around here. Please fix the sweet potato instructions, though - 90 seconds is not long enough to soften them. We ended up microwaving our servings a couple minutes, then slow cooking the chili for another hour to get them soft enough. But I will definitely fix again, thank you!

You're welcome! I've been eating this for leftovers every day this week. I can't get enough of it. Makes me a little sad that spring is (finally) here and chili weather is over. I'll probably fix it anyway, though!

I think the sea salt is also known as rock salt.  Does it add any extra flavour or benefit in the recipe compare to regular salt? I love spicy , hope to try this recipe this weekend .

This looks amazing and I would love to try it but I’m definitely a baby when it come to spicy. Is it okay to cook without the chipotle or is there something else I can use that isn’t spicy? Cant wait to add cauliflower and sweet potato though!!

I really wasn't sure how sweet potatoes and cauliflower would be in a chili, although I love both vegetables! My husband and I absolutely loved it! This now 
is our go to chili on a cold night. We didn't even need all the other stuff we usually add to chili; like crackers, cheese etc. It was perfect right out of the crock pot!

The cooking time needs to be longer than 3 hours. If it’s cooked longer ,sits in the fridge a few days to let the spices cultivate it is amazing.  It’s a healthy chili but very good.

This Crockpot Chili recipe is a winner! Hearty and full of flavor, you will love coming home to this great dinner.

Crockpot Chili

beef ((read how

green bell pepper (diced)

garlic (minced)

ground chipotle ((read what ground chipotle is here))

cayenne pepper ((read about spice level here))

liquid smoke ((learn what liquid smoke is here))

tomatoes (undrained)

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and break up. Season with salt and pepper. (Don&#39;t miss my section on the post on substitutions and variations for crockpot chili.)

Add in the green pepper, onion, and garlic. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until you can no longer see pink. There is no need to cook the beef all the way through. Drain the fat from the skillet.

Add the beef mixture to the slow cooker. Add in the chili powder, cumin, ground chipotle, and ground cayenne pepper. Mix in the Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce.

Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours. Serve with diced red onion, corn chips, sliced jalapenos, shredded cheese, sour cream, and fresh cilantro.

Mix uncooked ground meat with 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp kosher salt, and 1 tsp pepper. Mix together well. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once oil is hot, add ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it up while you cook.

Cook

Transfer cooked meat to slow cooker. Add in the rest of ingredients to the browned meat. Cook on Low for 6-7 hours or high for 4-5 hours. (If using a Dutch oven or heavy pot on stovetop, bring to simmer for 4 hours.)

Garnish

Keep warm until ready to serve. Garnish with desired toppings.
