I am a mid 70s gray-haired old man who enjoys cooking for himself. This recipe is a godsend. One of these Crunchwraps will get me through breakfast, with an egg on the side,     AND dinner, with rice and beans on the side. They also freeze well, and half a C-Wrap in your fannypack on a hike or in your glove box on a road trip is a perfect fit.

These turned out great!  Family enjoyed them. I did the final cook on my panini and it worked well. If you have no preference for the lines, try it!  Will definitely make again.

These came out sooooo good! I modified with queso instead of nacho cheese and the taco bell taco seasoning packet instead of the recipes spices. Way better than taco bell, which is saying a lot for me since taco bell is life.

So much better than Taco Bell. Same everything but way better ingredients! I’ve made this almost 10 times now and it’s a craving recipe you’ll always have. I make my own queso with American cheese, whole milk, and green chilies. This adds more flavor then the canned cheese.

Made this with ground chicken instead of beef.  Turned out delicious  I do think that 3 minutes per side may be a little too long.  I would do 2 minutes per side on medium or lower heat.

How To Make A Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme At Home

Spicy Ground Beef

Heat the oil over medium heat in a large nonstick skillet. Add onion, garlic, and beef. Cook / break apart until the beef is browned all the way through. Add taco seasoning and salt.

Queso

Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. Let the flour cook for a minute or two, then slowly add in the milk, whisking after each addition. When the sauce is smooth, remove from heat. Stir in the cheese. Season to taste.

Crunch Wrap Time

Lay a large tortilla on a flat surface. Layer: beef, queso, crunchy stuff, sour cream, salsa / hot sauce, tomato, lettuce, cilantro. Fold the edges of the tortilla in. Place in a hot oiled skillet. Cook for a few minutes on each side until the exterior is firm, crunchy, and golden brown. Cut and serve! I like a little mashed avocado and hot sauce on top.

Oh my gosh.. I actually just made my own version of crunchwraps for the Super Bowl last night, and then I got this recipe in my email this morning! Super excited to try again with this homemade queso... EVERYONE needs to know how to make these!

I've been making homemade cruchwraps for years and they are the best! Such a good dish for a crowd, too, since everyone can customize it to their liking. I credit taco bell for the inspiration but homemade version knock the fast food version out of the park!

I have never heard of Taco Johns! (West-coaster, here). I did eat at Taco Bell as a kid-- and my attempts to eat there as an adult were not pleasant. Stick with the homemade version! That queso sounds amazing!

I just made these! Pretty good and I figured out a way to get them seam side down without them falling apart. It was tricky. They were also very filling.  I wasn’t expecting that. I used dairy free pepper jack cheese instead of the con queso. I would try them again. Might go with chicken net time. 
I make grilled stuffed burritos and I feel like they were just about the same. Thx for the inspiration!

large corn or flour tortillas (~10", flour preferred)

lettuce

cherry tomatoes (quartered, or diced regular tomatoes)

mexican cheese blend (shredded)

tortilla chips (or as desired)

Make the taco beef: Brown the beef in a frying pan over medium high heat until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess fat, if needed. Add the spices and stir in. Taste and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

Make the wrap: Lay the tortilla down on a cutting board. Take a knife and cut a line from the center of the tortilla to the bottom edge.

Starting at the bottom left quarter, add shredded lettuce and tomato. To the top left quarter, spread on some sour cream and top with tortilla chips. On the top right quarter, sprinkle on some cheese and add some ground beef. Finally, on the last quarter, sprinkle on some more cheese.

Starting with the bottom left corner and fold it up over the top left.

Then fold it over to the top right.

Finally, fold it down to the bottom right.

Grill in a pan over medium heat until the tortilla is crispy and the cheese melts, flipping once, about 3-4 minutes per side. Enjoy!

iceberg lettuce (shredded)

Mexican cheese blend (shredded)

Brown ground beef in a large pan. Drain fat. Add ⅓ cup water and taco seasoning. Simmer 5 minutes or until thickened.

Meanwhile, cut one of the flour tortillas into quarters. Cut the corners to be rounded.

Heat the remaining flour tortillas in the microwave for 20 seconds (this keeps them from cracking).

Add ¼ cup ground beef to the center of each tortilla. Top with cheese sauce. Add tostada shell, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and cheese blend.

Place the ¼ piece of the tortilla in the center and gently fold the tortilla to seal.

Preheat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium heat in a large skillet (or to cook all of the crunchwraps at once, preheat a large griddle).

Place tortillas, seam side down, in the skillet and cook until golden, about 3-4 minutes. Flip and cook the other side.

Serve immediately.

Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme

Do you prefer soft or crunchy taco shells?

In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, combine ground beef and spices and season with salt and pepper. Cook, breaking up meat with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink, about 6 minutes. Remove meat to a bowl and set aside.&nbsp;Drain fat and wipe skillet clean.

Stack 4 large flour tortillas and place a tostada shell in the center. Using a paring knife, trace around edges of shell to cut 4 smaller flour tortilla rounds.

Build Crunchwraps: Add a scoop of ground beef to the center of remaining 4 large flour tortillas, leaving a generous border for folding. Drizzle cheese sauce over each, then place a tostada shell on top. Spread sour cream over each shell, then top with lettuce, tomato, and cheeses. Place smaller flour tortilla cutouts on top and tightly fold edges of large tortilla toward the center, creating pleats. Quickly invert Crunchwraps so pleats are on the bottom and they stay together.

In the same skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Add Crunchwrap seam-side down and cook until tortilla is golden, 3 minutes per side. Repeat with remaining Crunchwraps.

My kids loved these! I added a thin layer of refried beans on the tostada shell before the sour cream. Would definitely make these again!

Super Easy! I substituted shredded chicken and a packet of taco seasoning for the ground beef and spices. Also, since I had them, I substituted the smaller street taco sized soft tortillas for the top piece rather than cut out and waste the outer circle of the large tortilla. And... since my local store shelves were out of the tostada shells, I used a regular hard shell taco and broke it in half to form the hard shell center.  My very picky family member loved it and so did everyone else!!

These came out perfect! As easy as making tacos. My kids loved them. The local Spanish grocery store had everything I needed.  Only change I made is instead of cutting up the large burrito shell and wasting alot of dough I bought small soft taco shells instead and it worked like a charm.

I’ve made these a few times now and they are soo good! My family loves them. Sometimes we add extra things like black olives or jalapeños.

This recipe was delicious and surprisingly simple! My recommendations: my grocery store doesn’t have tostada shells, so I bought a pack of yellow corn street taco tortillas. We baked some of them for the crunch and used the unbaked ones for the topper. As someone else said, it seems silly to waste a large tortilla on that.

A made this with ground turkey,  and I mixed refried beans in with the meat. And my family loved it.  Super good.

In a medium hot skillet, cook the onion with olive oil until it softens and turns translucent.

Add in the ground beef or lamb and spices, garlic and cook well breaking down the lamb pieces so it cook evenly.

Continue cooking until the temperature registers 175 degrees at least.

Finish off with cilantro and scallions and then turn off the eat and allow the meat to cool.

Start the layering process using the large tortillas at the bottom.

Always add the ingredient right in the middle of the tortilla and avoid spreading it to the edges at all. Start with nacho cheese sauce layer

Then the cooked meat

Shredded cheese goes over the meat

Add a layer of tostada or tortilla chips over the cheese

Turn over the tortilla and continue more folding while holding down the folded sides already and continue

Continue until you have 5-6 sides folded up

Spray cooking spray on a skillet over medium heat and place the wrap seam side down.

Cook for 2 minutes and then flip and cook for another 2 minutes until ready.

Cut in half and enjoy!
