These simple lemon, ginger, honey, and cayenne immunity shots are part of a wonderful immune booster juice to start the day right during cold and flu season (or any time of the year!)

Ginger Lemon Immune Boosting Shots

450 gr ginger root (to yield about 350 ml juice)

lemons

tsp honey (or agave/maple)

cayenne pepper

Start by rinsing and scrubbing the ginger root. There's need to peel it, just cut it into small enough piece so they can pass through the juicer.

Then, begin by juicing the ginger. 

Once the ginger is juiced, check your yield amount and Juice the lemons accordingly. You can pass it through the juicer if you remove the skin and white rind. Alternatively, juice the lemon as you would usually and measure a 1:1 ratio with the ginger juice.

Mix the ginger and lemon juice together.

Add the cayenne pepper and the honey (or agave/maple) and stir well, to thoroughly combine.

Separate into shot-sized portions (60ml) and keep refrigerated for up to a week. The cayenne pepper will sink to the bottom  - so make sure to shake the shot container before drinking.

You can also freeze the juice into ice cubes and add to juices and smoothies when needed.

Lemon, Ginger and Cayenne Immunity Shots

Kiss goodbye to the store brought kind and learn how to make real Jamaican ginger beer using fresh ginger. This the non fermented version but it&#039;s still so tasty and thirst quenching. A great drink during the holidays or anytime of year.

Jamaican Ginger Beer Recipe

lb fresh ginger (peeled)

water

cinnamon

cloves

brown rice (optional (rinsed))

lime

tsp vanilla extract

maple syrup

rum or rum essence if using

Peel the ginger

Either grate the ginger (grating is best as it brings out the flavour) or chop it up and blend with 1/2 cup of water (add more if required).

In a large pot add the ginger, cloves, cinnamon stick, rice (if adding) and water.

Simmer on low-medium heat for 5 minutes (this heats it through without destroying it&#039;s properties and without cooking it).

Remove the pot from the stove and allow to cool (if you are using granulated sugar stir it in now) and add the lime juice.

Cover the pot and either store in a cool place or refrigerate for at least several hours or up to a week (the longer you leave it to rest the stronger it will taste).

When you are ready to serve, strain off the juice into a cheesecloth or extra fine mesh strainer

Stir in your sweetener, vanilla, rum/essence (if using) (add more water if it&#039;s too strong or just adjust to taste).

How to Make Ginger Juice

I always suggest using organic ginger - which doesn&#039;t need to be peeled. However, if you&#039;re unable to, then scrub and peel your ginger. You can peel ginger really quickly and easily according to this method.

Slice the ginger into small pieces, big enough to fit through the mouth of the juicer and simply feed the pieces in the machine.

That&#039;s literally all you need to do as the juicer will do the rest, extracting ginger juice within seconds - feeding the pulp into one container and the juice into another. (See tips on how to use it below)

The Juicer Method:

To begin, chop the ginger into small pieces, around 1 inch in thickness, and add to the blender. If I&#039;m juicing a large amount of ginger in one go (1lb/500g, for example) then I&#039;ll usually do this in two lots.

Along with the ginger pour in around 1 cup of filtered water and blend until smooth.

Strain the ginger juice through a nut milk bag, cheesecloth, or sieve into a container, squeezing the pulp to get as much of the liquid out as possible. Then pour in your container of choice.

The Blender method:

Store the fresh ginger juice either in a large, airtight glass bottle in the fridge or within smaller shot-sized bottles. This fresh juice will only stay fresh for 2-3 days in the fridge though, so my preferred method is to store any additional juice in the freezer.

You can freeze the ginger juice into portioned ice-cubes, that way you can just pop however much you need out at a time. Fresh ginger juice is freezer-friendly for up to six months.You can defrost the juice as needed for morning shots or add the ice-cubes to smoothies, other drinks, marinades, etc.

How To Juice Ginger

Start the day with punchy, refreshing ginger juice. Save money by making your own using fresh ginger, apple and lemon juice

Chop the ginger into small chunks. Tip into a blender with the apple and lemon juice and blitz for a few minutes until very smooth.

Set a very fine sieve over a jug. You could also line a regular sieve with a piece of muslin or a clean, thin tea towel. Tip the juice into the sieve and leave it to drain, then press the remaining pulp with the back of a ladle until dry. If you’re using a cloth, twist to squeeze all the juice out. Drink straightaway or decant into a bottle. Will keep chilled for up to four days. Shake well before serving.

Refreshing Carrot Ginger Juice (2 Methods)

First, scrub/clean your carrots* well. I tend to do this immediately after buying them, so I don&#039;t have to do this each time I want to use a carrot.

Chop the carrots to a size that fits your juicer chute and then begin to feed the carrots through the chute.

How To Make Carrot Juice

To prepare the ginger, first, scrub it well to clean it ( optionally, you can peel it- though organic ginger can be left unpeeled).

Chop it into pieces that fit your juicer chute if necessary, then feed into the chute. ( In fact, I have a ginger juice recipe post)

Once juiced, mix the combined juice, and it&#039;s ready to enjoy!Optionally, you could add some lemon too (peel and then place the amount you want to add into the juicer chute.

How To Make Ginger Juice

If you want to make this juice with a (high-speed) blender, then you&#039;ll need to peel and chop the carrots into 1-2&quot; pieces, add the chopped, peeled ginger, and then add around 1/4-1/2 cup of water to the blender too ( to help it blend without diluting the juice TOO much).Blend it until pureed. It will look like a thick smoothie consistency.

Then sieve the juice. You can do this through a sieve, using a spoon to help press the juice out. Alternatively, use a nut milk bag and lightly squeeze it to get the juice out. Enjoy!

To Use A Blender

Carrot juice is best consumed immediately for the highest amount of nutrients. Though you can store leftover carrot ginger juice in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days if needed.You can freeze the juice too - though it separates when thawing so is then best used for culinary uses like dressings, etc. You could also pop a few of the carrot ginger juice ice-cubes into smoothies.

Pour the juice into a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.

To serve, pour 1/4 cup of ginger juice in a glass. Add 1 cup of water and sweeten with your favorite sweetener to taste

SCRUB THE GINGER AND 

CUT THE PINEAPPLE INTO CHUNKS. Scrub the ginger with your hands or a vegetable scrubber brush. You don&#8217;t even need to peel it! Remove the top and the skin of the pineapple as well as the core, then cut it into chunks.

BLEND AND STRAIN THE GINGER AND PINEAPPLE

 Break the ginger into small pieces. If you have a small blender and need to blend in batches like me, blend some pineapple and a little bit of water with the ginger. This will give the ginger the push it needs to begin blending. You&#8217;ll have more pineapple than ginger; so, blend the remainder of the pineapple. Then over a large bowl, press the juice through the fine mesh strainer using a rubber spatula. You can also use your favorite large blender or juicer!

JUICE THE LEMONS AND STIR IN WITH THE COCONUT WATER
