Fresh Tomatillo Salsa Recipe! (aka Salsa Verde) A FRESH vibrant recipe for Tomatillo Salsa using raw tomatillos, resulting in the most vibrant flavor. Serve this with chips, Fish Tacos, quesadillas or as a sauce for enchiladas!

Fresh Tomatillo Salsa 

1 lb Tomatillos, husked, rinsed

cilantro- leaves and tender stems OK ( 1 cup, packed)

jalapeno (or more,

garlic clove

onion

lime juice

coriander

½ teaspoon sugar

tsp kosher salt

T olive oil (optional)

Place all ingredients in a food processor and pulse until uniformly combined.

Taste, then adjust salt, heat and lime. ( I find it helpful to taste with a chip, or whatever you are serving this with.)

This turned out so good. Who knew using fresh tomatillos would taste so good- I've always roasted them, but  this way is so much better!

Incredible recipe! I love the fresh and lively flavors of this salsa! I added about 1 TB of some cucumber water (a previous recipe for tzatziki where I strained the cucumbers and froze the liquid from them for a later day) just to counter a little bit of the Serrano pepper I added. This is suberp and will be a staple in my kitchen from now on!

I’m a chef and I have always toasted my tomatillos. All I can say is WOW! It has such a bright taste.  I made a triple batch, some to give to friends and sons for my family.

Needing a sauce to jazz up your tacos, burritos, enchiladas, or quesadillas? Look no further. This salsa verde is tangy, zesty, and spicy. It&#039;s the perfect condiment for all your Mexican-inspired dishes.

Salsa Verde

lbs tomatillos (0.90)

serrano chilies (0.04)

If your tomatillos still have the husk on them, remove those first and give the tomatillos a good rinse. Set aside.

First, cut your tomatillos in half. Then, heat a seasoned cast-iron skillet to just over medium (this takes about 8-10 minutes). If your pan isn&#039;t well seasoned, rub it with a little olive oil before heating up.

Once the skillet is hot, place the serrano chilies and tomatillos face down in the pan to sear, about 3-4 minutes. Flip and do the same on the other side until each side is browned and the tomatillos are softened. Transfer the cooked tomatillos to a bowl and cover while you cook the rest.

Skillet method

Turn your oven to broil on high, and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Then, spread the serrano chilies and your tomatillos out evenly on the foil. Broil for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway. This will slightly char the skins, but careful not to let them burn!

In the meantime, dice your onion, garlic, and cilantro. Add all of these to a food processor or blender.

Once the tomatillos and serrano chilies appear blackened and soft, remove from heat. De-stem and slice the chilies. Add these to the rest of the ingredients in your food processor or blender.

Pulse until all ingredients are chopped and mixed together to your preference, about 30-60 seconds (more time for a smoother salsa, and less for a chunkier texture).

Lastly, heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a saucepan over high. Slowly pour the salsa in and bring it to a low boil. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes. This will thicken your salsa and create a better flavor, so don&#039;t skip doing it.

Once your sauce is done reducing, season with salt to taste and transfer it to a jar or container to cool in your fridge. If you find the flavor too acidic or tangy, add in about ½ - 1 tsp sugar or agave before chilling.

Serve this salsa as a condiment in tacos, burritos, enchiladas, or with tortilla chips.

Oven method

Not all salsa is based on red tomatoes. This recipe for Low FODMAP Instant Pot Salsa Verde Chicken highlights our Low FODMAP Salsa Verde, which is based upon green tomatillos. It has a little heat and tang, packs this dish with flavor and makes it very easy to put together. 5 ingredients (one is optional) and cooked in about half an hour.

Low FODMAP Instant Pot Salsa Verde Chicken

Place chicken pieces in Instant Pot, then sprinkle with cumin, and the FreeFod Garlic Replacer, if using. Pour Salsa Verde and stock on top. Cover and set on High Pressure, or use the Chicken function, if available, and set for 25 minutes. Engage the Quick Release of pressure when cycle is done.

Chicken should be cooked through and tender. If you want reduce and thicken the sauce, remove the chicken from the sauce, set the Instant Pot to Sauté on High for 10 minutes and boil until it has thickened and reduced to your liking.

Shred the cooked chicken with two forks. You can do this in the pot, or remove from pot, if reducing sauce.

Once shredded, make sure to mix all the juices and chicken together. Chicken is ready to use or may be refrigerated for up to 4 days in an airtight container. Reheat on stovetop or in microwave before proceeding.

My roasted salsa verde is better than bottled or restaurant style salsas. Use this recipe to make green chile salsa with roasted tomatillos!

Roasted Salsa Verde with Tomatillos

Peel the outer husk/skin off the tomatillos, onion and garlic. Place on a baking sheet.

Under the broiler or on the grill of your BBQ, roast the tomatillos, chiles and garlic until charred all over.

Place all the peppers, tomatillos, garlic, onion, salt and oil in a food processor, blender or Vitamix, and pulse until smooth.

Pour the mixture into a hot saucepan and simmer on low for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Season to taste with salt.

Recipe for an authentic &quot;salsa verde,&quot; or &quot;green sauce,&quot; a staple in every Mexican kitchen. It is so simple to make from easy to find ingredients. You make it mild or spicy depending on how many peppers you add. You will love it. Give it a try!

Salsa Verde Recipe

Remove the papery husks from the tomatillos and rinse to remove the sticky residue.

Quarter the onion.

Add all of the ingredients except the cilantro and salt to a large pot and just cover with water.

Bring the water and ingredients to a boil and then simmer for 10 minutes.

Blend the cooked ingredients and the cilantro with the cooking water until smooth. (About 30 seconds)

Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in the pot.

Pour the blended salsa back into the pot with the hot cooking oil.

Reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Add the salt and adjust if necessary.

How to make a tomatillo green chili salsa (aka Mexican salsa Verde) with just 7 ingredients, roasted and blended into a delicious Verde sauce. This roasted tomatillo salsa is simple to make, packed with flavor, and versatile enough to enjoy with tons of meals!

Tomatillo Green Chili Salsa (Salsa Verde)

Remove the husks of the tomatillos and then wash the tomatillos and chilis well.

Step 1: Prepare the vegetables

Spread the tomatillos, chilies, garlic, and onion on a parchment-lined baking tray and roast in a pre-heated oven for between 8-10 minutes at 400ºF/200ºC.You can optionally broil the ingredients for a couple of minutes in the end to slightly char the tomatillo/ peppers and add more of a smoky flavor to the green salsa.Alternatively, you could broil, pan-roast, or even boil the ingredients – all of which are quick and easy. For the best flavor, I prefer oven roasting or pan-roasting, though!

Once roasted, allow the ingredients to cool just enough so you can handle them to remove the skins, stems, and seeds.

Alternatively, you can ‘prep’ the ingredients first by removing the stems and seeds from the chilies, the stems from the tomatoes, and the peel from the onion and garlic. Either way will work.

Step 2: Roast the vegetables

Transfer all the ingredients to a blender or small food processor and process to your desired consistency. Then add the cilantro, salt, and lime juice (optional) and blitz a few more times until thoroughly incorporated.

Give the roasted tomatillo salsa a taste and adjust the seasonings if necessary.

Step 3: Blend the salsa Verde

Store: The tomatillo green chili salsa will last for between 7-10 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.Freeze: Allow the salsa to cool, then transfer to an ice-cube tray (to portion the salsa) or an airtight container, leaving 1-inch headspace, and freeze for between 3-4 months.Allow the salsa to thaw in the fridge or at room temperature before enjoying. I’ve noticed it’s not quite as spicy upon thawing, and I’ll often add in a little additional fresh cilantro – but otherwise, it freezes wonderfully!

How to Store Salsa Verde?

This slow cooker cilantro lime chicken is one of the best easy ways to do shredded chicken that can be used in tacos, burritos, or whatever you want!

Slow Cooker Cilantro Lime Chicken

lbs. boneless skinless chicken thighs, visible fat removed

chili powder

garlic powder

Tbsp. fresh squeezed lime juice

place chicken in an even layer on bottom of slow cooker.

Sprinkle cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and salt evenly on top of chicken.

Pour salsa and lime juice over spiced chicken and set crockpot to cook for 3-4 hours on high or 5-6 hours on high.

Once chicken is fully cooked, use two forks to shred chicken. Stir in chopped cilantro and serve.&nbsp;

Char in the oven. Turn the top broiler on in the oven and set a rack about 4 inches below the broiler. Place the tomatillos, peppers, and garlic on a baking sheet and broil for 5 minutes, then flip everything and broil 4 to 5 minutes more, until slightly charred and blistered. Let cool to the touch.

Pulse

Pulse together. Transfer the tomatillos and peppers (see note below on heat level) to a food processor or high-powered blender along with the onion, cilantro, garlic, and salt. Pulse a few times, until your desired texture is reached.

Serve. Pour the salsa verde into a serving bowl and enjoy!

California Burrito Recipe {with Carne Asada}

jalapenos (fresh, stems off)

yellow onion (medium dice)

tbsp cotija cheese

Preheat the oven to 425°F then line 2 sheet trays with parchment paper

Put the jalapenos and onions on one tray, drizzle with olive oil and add a pinch of salt. Roast them for 20-25 minutes

Remove them from the oven and blend them in the food processor with the garlic, lime juice and salt

Stir that mixture into the sour cream and set aside

Making the Jalapeno Sour Cream

Mash the avocados, lime and salt together in a medium bowl with a fork

Add the red onion, tomato, garlic and cilantro. Mix well and set aside

Making the Guacamole

Add the fries to the other sheet tray and bake according to package instructions

Remove them from the oven then add cotija and taco seasoning

Baking the Fries

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of olive oil

Season the steak and add it to the pan, leaving it untouched for 2 minutes. Stir and cook steak to desired doneness

Making the Carne Asada

Warm the tortillas in a large skillet over low-medium heat with non-stick cooking spray just until pliable. About 10 seconds

Spread the burrito shells out over a flat surface with room to work

Layer the ingredients in the center of the tortilla starting with the guacamole

Add the sour cream, then cheese then fries

Top the fries with salsa then add the steak

Fold both sides of the tortilla in then start rolling with the side that is closest to you and roll it away from you to form a burrito. Make sure to keep the edges tucked in during rolling so the ingredients don&#39;t fall out

Serve immediately
