Healthy Vegan Chocolate Granola is so easy to make and delicious. Made with 8 simple ingredients and oil-free, this healthy dark chocolate granola is the perfect morning treat or plant-based snack.

Healthy Vegan Chocolate Granola (Oil-Free)

oats

chopped nuts of choice (I prefer a mixture of almonds and walnuts)

vegan chocolate chips

cocoa powder

coconut

salt

maple syrup

applesauce

vanilla

Preheat your oven to 350˚F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Combine all of the dry ingredients into a large bowl and stir to combine.

Add the wet ingredients and mix everything together until all of the ingredients are evenly combined and coated.

Use a wooden spoon or rubber spatula to evenly and thinly spread the granola mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 30 minutes then remove and let the granola cool for 20-30 minutes. 

Break apart into small or large chunks and enjoy. 

Store in a mason jar or a sealed container for up to a week.

Healthy Homemade Granola

oats (old fashioned or quick oats

chocolate chips (add after it bakes and cools, and probably not more than a cup of them total)

Preheat oven to 225 degrees F. Line a big cookie sheet with parchment and grease lightly.

In a large bowl combine the oats, flour, salt, and cinnamon if using, stir to combine.

In a small bowl whisk together the coconut oil, honey, and vanilla.

Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients. Mix everything together making sure there are no dry spots.

Add any additions you would like and stir to combine.

Spread granola onto the prepared cookie sheet in an even layer. The pan will be nice and full. Bake for 1 hour.

Remove from the oven and let the granola cool, it will be a deep golden color. 

Once the granola has cooled break it into smaller pieces as you see fit (we like some chunky and eat it like a cookie and some we break up small in our bowls for cold cereal). 

Store in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge if you aren&#8217;t going through it very quickly.

Heat oven to 300 degrees F. Line a large baking tray or two medium-size jelly roll pans with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, add dry ingredients: oats, almonds, cinnamon and salt. Mix well.

In a small jar or bowl, combine maple syrup, honey and vanilla. Measure coconut oil and melt it in a microwave-safe ramekin.

Pour wet ingredients over dry ingredients. Mix and toss until well combined. All oats and almonds should be moistened. With a spatula, spread the granola in an even layer within the prepared baking tray.

Bake for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Granola is done when it&#8217;s nice and golden. Remove tray from oven and place it on a cooling rack. Cool granola completely.

You can't beat homemade granola. Besides being so much better for you, it is more economical!! A small box of granola won't last very long at our house. Your recipe is a lot like mine. I love the touch of maple syrup in it and cinnamon is one of my favorite spices in granola. This recipe is certainly a keeper.

Hello, I have always enjoyed a bar of granola from the store for my afternoon snack. But I believe homemade is always better not to mention, healthier too. The recipe that you mention in the article is amazing and delicious.

This Healthy Chocolate Granola is super healthy, nutritious, oil-free, gluten-free and made with wholesome ingredients and a boost of cinnamon for extra flavor! No need to ever buy store-bought granola again!

Healthy Chocolate Granola (Oil-free)

(300 grams) old-fashioned oats

(30 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder

fine sea salt

(50 grams) sliced almonds

(40 grams) sunflower kernels or chopped pecan pieces

almond butter

(30 grams) water (OMIT if doing 3/4 cup syrup)

(10 grams) vanilla extract

Preheat an oven to 325°F and Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, combine the oats, cocoa powder, cinnamon and salt and stir well. Stir in the seeds and nuts.

In a small bowl, combine the syrup, almond butter (water if using) and vanilla). Whisk well. Pour over the dry and stir until evenly coated. This will take a couple of minutes.

Spread the granola out evenly onto the lined pan and press down with the back of the spoon to make the granola stick. It should be about 1/2 inch high for nice size chunks.

Bake on the LOW rack for 15 minutes. Remove and stir the granola around well, then return back to the oven on the MIDDLE rack and bake another 10 minutes.

The granola will be soft upon removal but will harden as it cools over the next 15 minutes or so.

Store in a ziplock bag or sealed container.

Tip:  As a sweeter/dessert option you can throw in some chocolate chips. Do this as soon as you remove the granola from the oven by just dropping them over the cooked granola. It will slightly melt into the granola.

Mix the oats, almonds, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt together in a large mixing bowl until combined. In a small, separate bowl, stir the melted butter, honey, vanilla and egg white together, then drizzle over the oat mixture, stirring together until well-combined.

Transfer the granola mixture to the prepared baking sheet and spread it out in an even layer.  If you want large chunks of granola, flatten into an even layer with a spatula, adding pressure so the granola is nice and compact.  Bake for 30-35 minutes, rotating the pan once halfway through for even toasting, until golden and crispy and the almonds look lightly toasted. 

Remove from oven and let the granola cool completely before transferring to an airtight container. Keeps for 2 weeks at room temperature.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees and spray a large sheet pan with cooking spray, or line with parchment paper.

Mix dry ingredients: Add oats, sunflower seeds, coconut, almonds, and sesame seeds to a large bowl and stir to combine.

Make Syrup by adding butter to a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, honey and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil and once boiling, remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla.

Combine: Pour syrup over the dry oat mixture and mix well until everything is evenly coated.

Bake: Pour mixture onto prepared pan and spread into an even layer. Bake for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and toss mixture, then gently press down on it with your spatula to flatten it back into the pan. Bake for another 8-12 minutes until golden brown.

Press and Cool: Remove pan from oven and use the back of a metal spatula to press the hot granola firmly down into the pan. Allow granola to cool completely in the pan before stirring or breaking it up (this will yield clusters that stick together).

I've tried several granola recipes and they've not been successful.  I was resigned to having to eat expensive store-bought granola until now. Oh my word this is the best granola recipe so easy and tastes perfect! It's an excellent base with so many add n possibilities. 

 The only fundamental change I'll make next time is to omit the 1/4 tsp of salt - with the baking soda in there it was a little on the salty side more than my liking.

So good! Nervous to try; only made granola once and it was a disaster from a woman know for "pioneering" recipes. Can't afford to throw out food, had to keep adding more ingredients to make edible. Really made me angry! So I read all your reviews first. Love how versatile your recipe is. Hate coconut so used pecans, walnuts, almonds, dried pineapple and apricots and of course oats. Used up maple flavored margarine instead of butter, thought might be too sweet so only added 1/4  cup honey. Appreciate food science of baking soda in this. It came out fabulous even though I burned it a little, more brown than golden. Still yummy. Can't wait to try again with other fruits, nuts. Thanks!!!

I searched for lighter granola without boatloads of sugar, dried fruit, etc.  Just healthier, crunchy, and versatile.  This one checked all the boxes in a very delicious and gratifying way!

My Son in law requests it for hunting trips, my college granddaughters NEED it for their dorms and my husband has it EVERY morning with berries and yogurt. This delicious healthy granola recipe is made with oats, nuts and seeds. It's naturally sweetened with maple syrup and flavored with cinnamon. Add milk, yogurt or your favorite fresh or dried fruits for a delicious, crunchy, highly nutritious breakfast.

My Favorite Healthy Granola Recipe

organic old fashioned rolled oats (not instant or quick cooking)

nuts

oat bran

flaxseeds

whole toasted flaxseed (optional)

pumpkin seeds

raw unsalted sunflower seeds

unrefined coconut oil

coconut sugar, optional (or substitute brown sugar)

Rimmed baking sheet

Parchment paper

In a large bowl combine oats, nuts, oat bran, seeds, cinnamon, and salt. Mix thoroughly.

In a small saucepan heat coconut oil, maple syrup and sugar (if using), until the coconut oil is liquified and the sugar is melted. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and toss to combine.

Spread granola mixture evenly onto prepared baking sheet. Cook for 20 minutes. Toss with a spatula and cook 15-20 minutes longer, until golden.

Remove from oven. Toss once more and leave out to cool completely. Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

This healthy homemade granola is lightly sweetened with a cozy cinnamon flavor and lots of big crunchy clusters. It’s my favorite basic recipe and a great blank canvas! It tastes wonderful served in a bowl with milk or yogurt, as well as eaten plain by the handful. You can easily add in different mix-ins once it’s cooled too, like nuts, dried fruit, or even chocolate chips!

The Ultimate Healthy Homemade Granola

(60 milliliters) pure maple syrup ((see Notes!))

½ tsp ground cinnamon ((see Notes!))

(60 grams) crisp brown rice cereal

½ cups (150 grams) old-fashioned rolled oats

Preheat the oven to 325°F, and line a rimmed baking sheet with a silicone baking mat (highly recommended!) or parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the egg whites until the egg whites are broken up and slightly bubbly. Whisk in the maple syrup. Whisk in the cinnamon until fully incorporated with no clumps. Pour in the brown rice cereal and oats, and gently stir with a spatula until both cereals are evenly coated.

Spread the mixture evenly onto the prepared pan. Bake at 325°F for 20 minutes. Gently stir and move the clusters around the pan to break up the granola and prevent the bits closest to the edge from burning. Bake for an additional 10 minutes, then gently stir again. Bake for an additional 4-8 minutes (for a total of 34-38 minutes), or until the granola is crunchy. Let the granola cool for 5 minutes before breaking apart any extra large clusters. Cool the granola completely to room temperature on the pan before transferring to an airtight container.

Just made this and used Puffed Quinoa (bought on Amazon) so crispy
and delicious!   I sprinkled some Maldon salt flakes on it before I baked
and then flipped it over to get the underside.   Made berries and yogurt
with it - game changer from the usual high calorie granola.

Thank you so much for this fantastic recipe! I don't know if you realized, but thanks to the fact that the recipe is gluten and dairy free and uses maple syrup as its sweeter, it's low FODMAP which is awesome! It's also low fat so safe for GERD. This is one of the only recipes I could find online that was safe for both conditions without substitutions, so thank you so much for that! 

I admittedly have a sweet tooth, and I used the recommended sweetening substitution, but I still would've liked it sweeter. I noticed in another comment it was mentioned you could substitution one egg white and 1/2 cup honey to make it sweeter. Would that also work with maple syrup? Also, if I wanted to add vanilla, pumpkin seeds, and chia seeds, how much would you recommend? And what would you think about trying quinoa instead of brown rice crisps? Thank you so much!

OMG! I made this recipe and it's SOOO good! The only changes I made were to substitute the brown rice cereal for a handful of pecans. I also added a teaspoon of good quality vanilla bean taste. I've literally eaten it every morning for breakfast this week, haha! Thank you so much for coming up with this healthy, delicious version, Amy!!!

Hi Amy and Stacey. I made this granola and it came out great! I used raw agave sweetener and added 2 tsp. Of monk fruit golden sweetener for a little added sweetness. I also added 1 tsp. of vanilla. Why? Well because, why not! Lol. Thanks for the recipe! I’m sure I will make it again.
