This easy recipe for <strong>Spiked Hot Apple Cider</strong> is perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Made with cinnamon sticks, star anise, clove, allspice, fresh oranges and a spiced rum to warm you right up!

Hot Spiked Mulled Apple Cider

apple juice or apple cider

allspice

1″ ginger root, sliced

spiced rum (I used Captain Morgan)

To a large 10 qt dutch oven, add apple juice, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, star anise, whole cloves, whole allspice and ginger root. (If you have a spice ball, add clove and allspice to that. It&#8217;s easier cleanup after wards.

Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce to simmer for 2-3 hours.

Hot Apple Cider (also known as Mulled Apple Cider) is a delicious beverage to serve during the fall. Often made with fragrant and flavorful seasonal spices, it's sure to warm you up from the inside out.

Hot Apple Cider (Mulled Apple Cider)

Pour fresh apple cider in a heavy-bottom saucepan (or slow cooker) and set on medium-high heat.

Place your mulling spices in a fabric bag and toss it into your pot. Stir occasionally, squeezing the bag of spices with a spoon like you would a tea bag.

Heat the cider until it is hot and flavorful; then set the temperature on warm.

Optional: Garnish the pot with apple and orange slices. Serve in a mug, garnished with a cinnamon stick.

Instant Pot Mulled Apple Cider

¼ cup Truvia (sweeter of choice,

Cinnamon

Nutmeg

Cloves

Water

Place all ingredients into your Instant Pot or Pressure Cooker.

Cook under high pressure for 10 minutes, and let it release all pressure naturally or if you just can't wait, release remaining pressure at 15 minutes.

Open the lid and stir well.

Place a 48-oz bowl on the counter. Place a large strainer across this bowl.

Using a soup ladle, start to transfer the contents of your pressure cooker into this bowl.&nbsp;You don't want to just lift the inner liner and pour all of it at one go, as you have a good mix of apple pulp and liquid and it won't all go through at once.&nbsp;You could, of course, pour in batches.&nbsp;I use this ladle as it has a flat side on one side of it, making it easy to scoop out the last of the goodness from your pot.

Using the back of the ladle, mash in the apples a bit so you're getting some good apple pulp into the cider.

Continue in this fashion until you've extracted all the liquid and a good bit of the pulp. You could use this still-flavorful pulp for apple butter, or for ice cream topping. I plan to make ice cream with it.

Serve hot or cold, with a dollop of whipped cream for a vegetarian option, or a little coconut cream for a vegan/dairy-free option.&nbsp;

Pour cider into a Dutch oven or a large, heavy-bottomed stock pot ad turn burner to low and bring cider to just below a simmer.

Wrap mulling spices in cheesecloth and add to the pot of cider. Add cinnamon sticks, sliced oranges, sliced apples, star anise pods and maple syrup and give cider a good stir. Cover pot and allow cider to cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Keep an eye on the cider as you don't want it to come to a boil. This shouldn't happen, however, with the burner on low.

Remove and discard mulling spices and serve cider warm in mugs. Garnish cider with apple slices, cinnamon sticks and cranberries if desired.

Crock Pot Mulled Apple Cider

Pour apple cider into a 3 1/2 quart crock pot. Add 4 or 5 cinnamon sticks. Punch holes in the orange with a toothpick and stick in whole cloves. You can add as many or few as you like. I usually just make several rings around the orange with the cloves.

Place the orange into the crock pot. Heat on low for about 4 or 5 hours. Remove orange and cinnamon sticks before serving. If using rum or bourbon just have guests add to their cup or glass how much they like and then add the mulled cider along with a cinnamon stick.

Makes 8 cups. This will keep for several days in the refrigerator and can be reheated in the microwave when you want to enjoy a cup. Your house will smell wonderful when this recipe is simmering in the crock pot.

Combine the apple cider, brown sugar, and one portion of mulling spices in a dutch oven or large pot.

Bring to a low simmer over medium heat. Do not let boil. Stir occasionally in the first 10 minutes, or until the brown sugar dissolves. Simmer on low 30 minutes and up to 2 hours. Strain if desired.

Ladle the warm cider into mugs and garnish with a fresh orange slice, cinnamon stick, and/or fresh whipped cream.

Optional:  ladle into mugs, add bourbon and apple brandy, then garnish and serve.

Combine Ingredients

Place the apple cider, cinnamon stick, orange juice, cloves and star anise in a small pot and bring to a boil. Lower to a simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and strain into a pitcher. 

To Make the Hot Cider:

Add Bourbon and Mix

In the glass, add 2 oz bourbon and 1 cup of the cider mix.

Garnish

I came upon this recipe a few weeks ago. We are in South Texas and we finally have had a cold snap....We made this beverage tonight and enjoyed it around our fire pit...Oh My!! this was wonderful - only changes are that we did not do a sugar rim on the glass and we added a squeeze of fresh lemon to our drink...This was a great drink  for a cool evening!! We will do this again for sure!!

We did this for New Years day, super simple and tastes great! Even the non-bourbon lovers enjoyed it. :)

Made this for the past 2 years for Halloween. You can pretty much double the bourbon without ever tasting it. Also, a bit of lemon juice to cut the sweetness bc between the cider and bourbon it's VERY sweet.
