Shane & Simple Crunchy Oven Bake Onion Rings

Preheat oven to 450 degrees so you can make onion rings.

While oven is heating up, make sour cream and mushroom soup then set aside.

Next, make the onion rings according to recipe on Shane &amp; Simple. Once they are finished, remove from oven and set aside.

Combine green beans, entire recipe of mushroom soup and sour cream into large bowl and mix well.

Pour mixture into a large baking dish or cast iron skillet and bake in oven for 10 minutes. Remove from oven, top with cooked onion rings, and bake for another 5 minutes.

Crispy Homemade Onion Rings are the perfect appetizer or accompaniment to any burger or sandwich!

Homemade Onion Rings

Sweet onions

Cups Buttermilk*

all purpose flour

salt

pepper

Vegetable oil oil

Slice onions 1/2 - 1 inch thick and separate the rings.

Add buttermilk to a bowl and add rings.  Cover and store in fridge for at least an hour.

In a dutch oven or a large pot add approximately 3 inches deep with oil.  Heat to 360 degrees or if you don&#039;t have a thermometer, just dip in the handle of a wooden spoon.  When the oil bubbles around the handle, it&#039;s ready.

Mix flour with salt and pepper in a wide shallow bowl or plate.

With tongs, dredge rings in flour ensuring they are well coated (you can double coat if you want extra batter by dipping back in buttermilk and dredging again) and then add to dutch oven.  Be sure to not over crowd rings - fry in batches for 2-3 minutes until rings begin to golden. Watch closely that they do not burn!  They&#039;ll go from done to burnt quickly.

Remove from oil with tongs, shaking off excess oil and cool on a paper towel lined plate.

Serve immediately with Fry Sauce or Ketchup!

cornmeal

Whiskey BBQ Ketchup

Preheat oven to 200 degrees F (93 C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Place one in the oven (where you'll place cooked onion rings) and one on the counter (where you'll place dipped onion rings). Also set out a plate layered with a few paper towels.

In a large shallow bowl, mix together brown rice flour, cornmeal, cornstarch, salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Also add dairy-free milk to a separate small mixing bowl and set aside.

One at a time, dip the onion rings in the dry ingredients first, then the dairy-free milk, then back in the dry ingredients until well coated. Place on the parchment-lined baking sheet on the counter and repeat until all rings are dipped. Overlapping them a little is fine.

Heat a large cast iron or metal skillet over medium high heat and add enough oil to form a scant 1/2-inch layer. Heat for 3-5 minutes, or until a little flour sprinkled in bubbles and browns. At that point, add only as many onion rings will fit comfortably in the pan.

Fry on both sides for 1-2 minutes, turning down heat if browning too quickly. Flip with a fork and handle carefully as the coating can be fragile at this point.

Transfer cooked onion rings to the paper-towel lined plate to blot off extra oil, then onto the parchment-lined baking sheet in the oven to keep warm. Continue until all onion rings are cooked.

Serve immediately with dip of choice - Whiskey BBQ Ketchup or Vegan Chipotle Aioli. Best when fresh.

These onion rings are extra crispy, prepared with a simple beer batter for that golden exterior, and come with an optional smoky ketchup for dipping!

Onion Rings

Buttermilk (about 3 cups)

oil,

flour, divided use

yellow cornmeal

black pepper

smoked paprika

garlic

fl oz beer (I used amber ale)

ketchup

garlic clove, pressed through garlic press

Worcestershire sauce

liquid smoke seasoning

(or more) tabasco sauce

If preparing the optional smoky ketchup, begin by preparing that: in a small bowl, whisk all of those ingredients together until well blended; then, cover with plastic and chill for 20 minutes to allow flavors to meld together for extra zip.

To prepare the onion rings: add the sliced onions into a large bowl, and pour the buttermilk over them just to cover; allow the rings to marinate in the buttermilk for about 20 minutes.

While the rings marinate in the buttermilk, place a medium-large pot on the stove, and add enough vegetable oil to come about half-way up the sides of the pot (about 5-6 cups), and slowly bring the temperature of the oil up to 350-360° while you prepare the rest of the steps.

Prepare your flour dredge by adding 1 cup of the flour, along with the cornmeal, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, granulated garlic and cayenne pepper into a large Ziplock bag.

Once the rings have marinated, thoroughly drain them from the buttermilk allowing any excess to drip off, and add them into the Ziplock bag (work in a couple of batches if you need to), tossing them very well to coat them thoroughly; remove the rings from the flour dredge and place them in a single layer onto a wire rack or baking sheet to hold for a moment.

To prepare your beer batter, add the remaining 1 cup of flour to medium-size bowl, and slowly pour the beer into it, whisking gently until the batter is smooth and about the consistency of pancake batter.

To fry the rings, dip each ring into the beer batter allowing any excess to drip off, and carefully place into the hot oil; repeat with another few rings (you will work in batches), and allow the rings to fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden-brown.

Remove the fried rings from the oil and drain them on paper towels or on a wire rack, and sprinkle a little salt and pepper over them while still hot; repeat the process with the remaining rings. (You can keep the rings very hot by placing the finished ones on a baking sheet and into a warm, 200° oven while you work on the batches, if you desire.)

Serve the onion rings while hot with the smoky ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce!

These baked homemade onion rings are just as crunchy and delicious as the fried version, but this onion ring recipe is also gluten free, dairy free and low carb.

The Ultimate Crispy Baked Homemade Onion Rings

Heat your oven to 400 degrees.  Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Mix together all the dry ingredients in a medium sized bowl.  Mix together the wet ingredients in another bowl.

Slice the onion to make rings that are about 3/4 of an inch wide. Peel the skin from each ring and carefully separate the rings from each other.

One at a time, take each ring and dip it into the wet mix. Then drip it into the dry. Coat it well, but make sure to tap all the excess back into the bowl. Place the ring on the baking tray.

When all the rings are coated, spray the rings with olive oil spray. You want to coat them, but not get too much. Flip them over and spray the other side.

Pop them into the oven. Check them after 9 or 10 mins and flip them over. Cook for an additional 4 mins or so.

Take them out and serve them right away.

It is totally worthy of that big thing coming up that starts with Super and ends with Bowl. I know I am a tad early to the Superbowl frenzy, but football food is good, and this is healthified football.

Buffalo Chicken and Crunchy Baked Onion Ring Salad with Blue Cheese.

smallish chicken breast

butter milk

panko bread crumbs

whole wheat pastry flour flour

salt and pepper

butter lettuce (chopped)

grape tomatoes (halved)

carrots

cilantro

plain greek yogurt

parsley

chives

dill weed

cayenne (optional)

smoked paprika (optional)

To make the dressing. In small bowl mix together the greek yogurt, parsley, chives, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Add the cayenne and smoked paprika if using. Mix well and if needed, thin with 1 or two tablespoons of buttermilk. Place in the fridge until ready to use.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or a silpat.

Add the chicken to a large bowl and pour half the buttermilk (about 3/4 cup) overtop. Mix well and set aside. Add the remaining buttermilk to a bowl and set aside. Place the flour in a sealable plastic bag, then add onions, and shake to coat. Set aside.

In a shallow pie dish or large bowl add the panko, cornmeal, cayenne and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well.

Now grab the bag of onions. Shake off the excess flour and dip the onions 1 at a time into the buttermilk, then dip into bread crumbs and place on a baking sheet. Spray oil evenly over rings and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until coating is crisp flipping half way through. Season with salt, to taste. Set aside, but keep warm.

Meanwhile make the chicken. Remove each piece of chicken from the buttermilk, and dredge through the the remaining crumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat until all the chicken has been used. Make sure not to crowd your pan, if necessary use two baking sheets. Spray each chicken "wing" with non-stick spray or a mist of olive oil.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, then gently flip using kitchen tongs and spray the other side. Bake for 10-12 minutes more, then remove from oven. Reduce the oven to 400 degrees F.

Gently toss each piece of chicken in the 1/2 cup of buffalo sauce, draining the excess sauce back into the bowl. Place the chicken back on the pan and repeat until all the chicken is coated in the sauce. Place both the onion rings and chicken back in the oven for 5 minutes just to re-warm.

Meanwhile add the lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, green onions and cilantro leaves to a large bowl and toss well. Divide the salad among four large plates or salad bowls. Top each plate with chicken and onion rings. Dollop with blue cheese guacamole and sprinkle with blue cheese crumbles. Drizzle on the ranch and buffalo sauce as desired. EAT.

Kickin' Cajun Chicken Sliders with Beer Battered Onion Rings.

flour

canola oil (for frying)

salt (for sprinkling)

cornflakes (crushed)

bread crumbs

cheddar cheese

brioche buns

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, cayenne, egg and beer until just combined. Don't worry if there are clumps in the batter.

Preheat the oven to 200 degree F. Fill a large heavy bottomed pot with oil and heat to 350 degrees F. Set a large wire rack on a rimmed baking sheet and place near the stove.

Working in batches dip the onion rings through the beer batter and then carefully add to the hot oil. Deep fry the onions until golden brown and crisp, about 3-4 minutes. Using a wire skimmer, remove the onions from the oil and place on the prepared wire rack. Transfer the onion rings to the oven while you fry them remaining rings.

Sprinkle with salt before serving and serve warm atop the sliders!

Beer Battered Onion Rings

Divide the meat into 6 balls and pat into smaller slider size patties. Add the buttermilk to a shallow bowl. To another shallow bowl, add the cornflakes, Panko, flour and cajun seasoning.

Working in an assembly line, dip the patties, one at a time through the buttermilk and then dredge through the cornflakes, coating the patties completely. Place breaded patties on a plate and repeat with the remaining patties.

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Once the oil is sizzling, add the burgers and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side. During the last few minutes of cooking, add the cheddar cheese to each burger.

To serve, place a burger on a warmed bun and drizzle with the black pepper rub sauce (recipe below). Top with onion rings and serve with ranch.

In a medium bowl combine the melted butter, hot sauce, cajun seasoning and black pepper. Whisk to combine.

Lots of factors influence outcome of how frozen onion rings cook. They all vary in size,  thickness, and sometimes the coating so you’ll have to adjust timing. For smaller air fryers (less than 5qt.) 1 pound is about the max without overcrowding the air fryer. The more you fill the basket the more frequently you’ll want to shake the basket to help them cook evenly. If you have a larger air fryer, you can cook more so long as the basket isn’t filled more than 1/2 full. All air fryers are different and some cook much hotter than others. Once you cook your first batch of onion rings, you’ll know more of what works for your model of air fryer and size of food. These were tested on basket style air fryers. Read more recipe notes below the recipe.

Place the frozen onion rings in the air fryer basket and spread out evenly. No oil spray is needed.

Air Fry at 400°F/205°C for 10 minutes. Shake and gently stir about halfway through cooking. If cooking larger batches, or if the onion rings don&#x27;t cook evenly, try turning them multiple times on following batches.

If needed air fry at 400°F/205°C for an additional 1-4 minutes or until crisped to your liking. Season with salt &amp; pepper, if desired.

Air Fryer Frozen Onion Rings with Time & Temp.

This is such a great idea for an appetizer recipe. Really easy and Yummy Low Carb Air Fried Onion Rings. Keto and gluten free options as well.

Low Carb Air Fried Onion Rings

Onion Sliced

Egg Beaten

49 tsp Milk (1 cup + 1 tsp)

Bread Crumbs

Seasonings

Preheat your air fryer to 370 and prep basket for nonstick

In a mixing bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and seasonings.&nbsp;Mix in the egg and then the milk (or beer). Transfer&nbsp; to a shallow bowl.

In a shallow bowl , place your bread crumbs

Using a fork,&nbsp; take the first slice of onion and fully cover it with the contents of the first bowl- using a dredging technique. Then dip this piece into the bread crumbs. Then place it into the basket. Repeat this with the other slices- trying to not over-lap too much.

Air fry the onion rings for 8 minutes and then flip them over. Continue to air fry for another 8 minutes or until done

Cut onions into 1/2 inch thick rings and pop the internal rings out until you have a nice sturdy onion ring.

Brush onion with hot sauce.

Wrap each onion ring with bacon and secure with a skewer or toothpick.

Heavily cover the onion rings with pepper and smoke, grill or bake for about 90 minutes at 250-350 degrees.

To make the spicy sriracha mayo, combine 2 T of mayo, 1 T of sriracha sauce, and 1 tsp of lime juice. Mix well.
