Saltine Cracker Toffee

Saltine Crackers ((just over a sleeve))

Butter

Packed Brown Sugar

11.5- oz package Chocolate Chips

Chopped Pecans (Optional)

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Line a jelly roll pan with foil.  Spray with a non-stick cooking spray.

Fill the bottom of the cookie sheet with crackers.  Set the pan aside.

In a sauce pan melt the butter over low-medium heat. Add brown sugar once butter is completely melted and stir to combine. Bring to a boil and continue boiling for 3 minutes.

Immediately remove from heat and pour bubbly mixture over crackers covering the crackers completely.

Place pan in the oven for 4-5 minutes, or just until edges of brown sugar mixture gets bubbly.

Remove pan from oven and immediately and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the crackers.

Allow the crackers to sit for 5 minutes to melt the chocolate.  Then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate over the cracker layer.

Sprinkle chopped pecans or your favorite topping over the melted chocolate (optional).

Place the pan in the refrigerator to allow the toffee to harden.

Then remove the toffee from the pan and break it apart.  Enjoy!

saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve, may need a few more or less depending on your jelly roll pan)

brown sugar (well packed)

vanilla extract

salt (kosher

Line pan.

Line a jelly roll pan (10 x 15 inches) with nonstick foil (or heavy duty foil and and coat with cooking spray).  You can also use a silicone baking mat.

Preheat oven.

Place crackers.

Place the crackers in a single layer on the jelly roll pan. You may have a little space left over - that is perfectly fine.

Start caramel.

Melt brown sugar and butter together in a 3 quart heavy bottomed sauce pan, stirring frequently over medium high heat.

Bring to a boil.

Bring to a boil and boil for 3 full minutes stirring almost continuously. (If using a candy thermometer, you are looking for 270°F-290°F degrees.)

Add vanilla and salt.

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.

Pour caramel.

Pour caramel mixture over the top of the saltines and spread evenly over the crackers.

Bake.

Bake for 5 minutes in the preheat oven. Caramel should be bubbling vigorously when removed. (If using a candy thermometer, you are looking for 300°F-310°F degrees.)

Add chocolate.

Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top and cover the pan with foil. Let sit for 5 minutes.

Spread chocolate.

Remove foil and use an offset spatula to gently spread melted chocolate.

Add toppings and chill.

Sprinkle on toppings if desired. Let toffee set up at room temperature until completely cooled, or chill in fridge for at least 2 hours.

Cut or crack.

Carefully peel away the foil from the bottom of the toffee and then use your hands to &quot;crack&quot; it or use a knife to cut into pieces.

Enjoy or store.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Christmas Crack (Saltine Toffee)

This Saltine Cracker Toffee was my grandma&#x27;s recipe. It&#x27;s addicting and one of my favorite treats!

salted saltine crackers

brown sugar

milk chocolate chocolate chips

pecans

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a cookie sheet with at least a 1/2 inch edge or jelly roll pan with parchment paper. Line saltine crackers in a single layer on the cookie sheet.

In a small pot combine sugar and butter and bring to a boil. Once mixture is at a boil, continue boiling for 3 minutes. Mixture should be a deep caramel color. Immediately pour over saltines and spread to cover crackers completely.

Bake at 400 degrees for 5 to 6 minutes. It will get all bubbly and the crackers will look like they are floating. Remove from oven and straighten any crackers that have gotten out of line. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top and let sit a couple of minutes to melt. If your pan isn&#039;t hot enough you can even pop it back in the oven for a couple of minutes to melt them. Sometimes I melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for about 1 minute then spread it on. Spread melted chocolate and top with chopped nuts if desired. Cool completely. You can pop it in the fridge for a couple of minutes to help the chocolate set. Break into pieces and eat.

Place pecans in a small baking pan in a 350 degree oven. Cook for 5 minutes or until nuts are toasted.

To toast pecans:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Place the crackers in a single layer in a small baking pan.

Cook brown sugar and butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat until butter is completely melted and mixture comes to a rapid boil.

Pour over crackers and spread out with a wooden spoon or brush making sure to cover all the way to the edges of the crackers.

Bake 5 minutes or until topping is golden brown.

Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips.

Turn the oven off and place the pan back in the hot oven for 1 minute to soften the chocolate chips.

Remove from oven and spread chocolate evenly over the crackers.

Sprinkle with nuts.

Allow the mixture to cool completely until the chocolate has re-solidified. Break into pieces.

35-40 saltine crackers

40-50 saltine crackers

salted butter, (cubed (227 grams))

light brown sugar, (packed (200 grams))

milk chocolate chips, ((or semisweet, milk, or dark))

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray. Line with a single layer of crackers arranged side-by-side. A jelly roll pan works best but if your pan is larger just fold up the edges of the foil a bit to create a barrier so the toffee doesn&#39;t spread too much when it&#39;s added. Set aside.

Combine butter and brown sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat on the stove. Stir with a wooden spoon until the butter has melted and started to combine with the brown sugar. Once the mixture starts to bubble, set a timer for 3 minutes. Let it boil, stirring constantly, until the timer goes off. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.

Pour the toffee mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, then use a knife to nudge it over any crackers that didn&#39;t get covered. It doesn&#39;t have to be perfect though because it will continue to spread as the toffee bakes.

Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes until bubbly.

Remove the toffee from the oven and immediately sprinkle with the chocolate chips. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes to melt from the residual heat of the pan, then spread with a knife of spatula to create an even coating of chocolate over the top of the toffee.
