This easy recipe for <strong>Spiked Hot Apple Cider</strong> is perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Made with cinnamon sticks, star anise, clove, allspice, fresh oranges and a spiced rum to warm you right up!

Hot Spiked Mulled Apple Cider

apple juice or apple cider

orange,

cinnamon

star anise

whole cloves

allspice

1″ ginger root, sliced

spiced rum (I used Captain Morgan)

To a large 10 qt dutch oven, add apple juice, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, star anise, whole cloves, whole allspice and ginger root. (If you have a spice ball, add clove and allspice to that. It&#8217;s easier cleanup after wards.

Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce to simmer for 2-3 hours.

This apple cider hot toddy with vodka will warm you from the inside out. On a warm day, chill the drink and serve over ice.

Honey Vodka & Apple Cider Hot Toddy

(175 ml) apple cider (preferably fresh-pressed)

(60 ml) water

ginger root (to your taste)

cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg

lemon juice (or more to your taste)

honey (or less if your apple cider is on the sweet side)

cinnamon stick, apple slice,

Combine the apple cider, water, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small saucepan and bring to a bare simmer.

Meanwhile, combine the vodka and lemon juice in a mug.

Strain the hot spiced cider into the mug, discarding the solids. Stir in the honey until melted. Taste, adding more lemon or honey to balance the drink if need be.

Garnish with a cinnamon stick, apple round, and/or lemon wheel and enjoy!

Bourbon Caramel Apple Cider

whipped cream (optional garnish)

cinnamon (optional garnish)

Add apple cider and caramel to a small saucepan over medium-high heat.

Stirring regularly, heat mixture until caramels melt then lower heat.

Once cider reaches a uniform consistency, turn off heat then stir in bourbon.

Divide evenly between two mugs and garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon, if desired. Enjoy carefully!

Toast the spices

Add the spices to the bottom of a pot*. Toast over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fragrant.

Simmer

Turn the heat to low. Pour in the apple cider and bring to below a simmer, just barely bubbling. Set a timer for 30 minutes and reduce to low heat (don’t let it simmer).

Filter

Skim off any particulate that rises to the top of the pot using a fine mesh sieve or strainer (or you can pour it through a strainer into another pot). 

Serve

Pour in the rum or bourbon (or add 2 ounces to each 1 cup serving). Ladle into 8 mugs. If desired, garnish with star anise, cinnamon stick, or an orange slice.

oz bourbon (I prefer 8 oz, but up to 12 oz can be added

star anise (optional, as garnish)

Add the apple cider, mulling spices, 2 orange slices, and 3-4 apple slices to a large soup pot. Then, turn on the heat, stir, and cook over low heat for 20-30 minutes until the cider is infused with flavor.

Remove the pot of cider from the heat and pour 8 oz strained mulled cider into a large mug. Add  1 oz bourbon to each mug. You can also add all the bourbon directly to the pot of mulled cider before serving and stir it in. Before serving, garnish with optional orange slices, cinnamon sticks, or star anise and stir. Enjoy!

Use a vegetable peeler and peel off 3 large strips of the outer rind of the orange. Do your best to avoid digging into the pith as it is very bitter. Set aside.

Add the apple cider, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, star anise, and orange peels to a saucepan over medium-high heat.

Allow the mixture to come to a simmer. The cider can be used immediately after it reaches a simmer, or you can reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer and cook for up to 30 minutes more.
