My sister and I made these at Christmas and they were everyone's favorite.  OMG, so good.  I didn't have a torch so used my oven broiler and it worked fine.  Can't wait to make (and eat) them again!!!  5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I made these cookies and have a few tips:
1) I treated the dough like sugar cookie dough meaning I rolled it out and cut circles using a ball canning lid. This created nice flat cookies for frosting and flaming. 
2) don’t just place your frosted cookies upside down in sugar and torch. Add more afterward. If you do, then you get the nice golden sugar layer when you torch it. The first few ended up getting a little too dark.
3) And finally, if you’re using a torch, do each cookie away from all other cookies. I place mine on a ramekin. When using a tourch on a group of cookies, Iburnt the sides of adjacent cookies.

This is a very easy recipe. It is also an excellent cookie. It is so easy that my 10-year-old granddaughter made them. I gave them as Christmas gifts to Waffle House employees. They love them. They have requested for more and that they would even pay for them! Thank you for the recipe.

Made these cookies recently.  Also made 4 other types of cookies and these were by far everyone's favorite.  Didn't have a torch, so used my infrared broiler instead.  Worked perfectly....just don't walk away from the broiler.  Just took about 20 seconds.  Will definitely make these again...a big hit!!

My cookies turned out great! I have a question though. I used dark brown sugar. Does the recipe call for light brown or dark brown?

Pretty disappointed. As I was starting the process I realized this recipe is very similar to nestle chocolate chip cookies. Went ahead anyway and indeed they are without the chips.. the frosting is a really standard cream cheese frosting which I felt OK with, until I did the torch business..it's just..I don't know it's a strange combination and just doesn't seem to work right. all-purpose flour

tsp baking soda

tsp baking powder

tsp salt

unsalted butter (softened)

sugar

tsp vanilla extract

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set bowl aside.

Using a stand mixer (or hand mixer + large bowl), cream together the butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

Drop mixer speed to low and add the vanilla extract and egg to the creamed butter, mixing thoroughly.

Remove bowl from mixer. Using a&nbsp;spatula, slowly add the dry ingredients in with the butter mixture until fully incorporated. Dough should be soft and slightly dewy when ready.

Cover bowl and place dough in the refrigerator to chill for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a large&nbsp;baking sheet&nbsp;with&nbsp;parchment paper. Add the remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar to a small mixing bowl and set nearby.

Remove dough from refrigerator. Scoop out about 1-2 tablespoons of cookie dough and roll into a ball (about 1 inch&nbsp;wide) then toss the cookie ball in the bowl of sugar, covering the outside. Place finished cookie ball on prepared baking sheet. Repeat this step until all dough is used, placing cookies about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.

butter

eggs (room temperature)

all-purpose flour*

sugar (sifted (375 grams))

TBS milk (room temperature)

½ TBS light corn syrup

½ tsp pure vanilla extract

Gel food coloring (optional)

Cream together butter and sugar in the bowl of a standing mixer.

Add vanilla and eggs and beat until combined.

Add flour, baking powder and salt and beat until combined.

Divide dough into two equal portions.

Shape each piece of dough into a round, flat disc and wrap tightly with plastic wrap.

Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Line two to four large baking sheets with parchment paper, set aside.

Remove one sugar cookie dough disc from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 5 minutes to soften slightly.

Place sugar cookie dough on a floured surface and roll to ½” or ¼” thickness (thicker = softer cookies).

Use your favorite cookie cutter shapes and cut out the dough and place them 1” apart on the prepared cookie sheets.

Repeat until all the dough is used. You can gather and re-roll the dough scraps two additional times (3 times total).

Make the sugar cookies:

Use a pastry brush and brush the cookies with a little bit of milk or cream. Then decorate with sprinkles, which will stick to the milk/cream.

To decorate without frosting (only do this if you want to add sprinkles to the sugar cookies without using frosting).

Bake in the preheated oven for 9-10 minutes or until cookies are puffed and just set around the edges.

Remove and let sit on cookie sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Repeat with second disc of dough.

Bake

Combine all frosting ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk to combine.

Start with 2 TBS milk and increase until your desired consistency is achieved.

If using food coloring, separate frosting into smaller bowls and add food coloring to your liking.

Place each color in a disposable piping bag fitted with your tip of choice.

Once cookies are completely cooled, decorate cookies.

Let decorated cookies sit at room temperature for at least 3 hours, or until the frosting is completely hardened. Chilling them in the refrigerator helps speed up the setting process.

This is a great and easy recipe for Sugar Cookies and a sugar cookie frosting.

Easy Sugar Cookies &amp; Sugar Cookie Frosting

unsalted butter (softened to room temperature (226 grams))

sugar ((200 grams))

vanilla extract²

all-purpose flour ((315 grams))

baking powder

sugar,

milk

corn syrup

vanilla extract

candies and sprinkles for decorating (optional)

Combine butter and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer (or in a large bowl and use an electric hand mixer) and beat until creamy and well-combined.

Add egg and vanilla extract and beat until completely combined.

In a separate, medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add dry ingredients into wet until completely combined.

Lay out a large piece of plastic wrap and transfer approximately half of the dough onto the wrap (dough will be quite sticky at this point, that's OK!).

Cover with clear wrap and mold into a disk.&nbsp; Repeat with remaining cookie dough in another piece of cling wrap.&nbsp; Transfer dough to refrigerator and chill for at least 2-3 hours3

Once dough has finished chilling, preheat oven to 350F (175C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.&nbsp; Set aside.

Generously dust a clean surface with flour and deposit one chilled cookie dough disk onto the surface.&nbsp; Lightly flour the dough and roll out to 1/8" (for thinner, crispier cookies) or 1/4" (for thicker, softer cookies).&nbsp; Continue to add flour as needed both on top of and beneath the dough so that it doesn't stick.

Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and use a spatula to transfer shapes to prepared baking sheet.4&nbsp;

Bake on 350F (175C) for 9-10 minutes5, or until edges just begin to turn lightly golden brown.

Allow cookies to cool completely on cookie sheet before moving and frosting.

Sugar Cookies

Combine sugar, 2 Tablespoons of milk, corn syrup, and vanilla extract in a medium-sized bowl and stir until combined.  If frosting is too thick, add more milk, about a teaspoon at a time, until the frosting is thick but pipeable.  If you accidentally add too much milk, add powdered sugar until desired texture is reached.&nbsp;&nbsp;

If coloring the frosting, divide into bowls and color as desired at this point.

Transfer frosting to a piping bag with a piping tip (I used Wilton 5), or place in a Ziploc bag and snip a small piece of the corner off (not as neat, but this will still work, just take care that the frosting isn’t so thick that it breaks open the seam of the bag when you are squeezing).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Pipe frosting on cookies and decorate with decorative candies, if desired.

Allow frosting to harden before enjoying (this took several hours for me and may vary for you depending on the consistency of your frosting)

Keep uneaten cookies sealed in an airtight container at room temperature.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Soft Lofthouse Style Frosted Sugar Cookies {Copycat Recipe}

sour cream

tsp cream of tartar

sugar (, plus more as needed to reach desired consistency)

heavy cream (, plus more as needed to reach desired consistency)

food coloring to color frosting (, optional)

candy sprinkles to decorate (, optional)

Using your hand mixer or a stand mixer, beat the butter and sugar on medium-high speed until nice and fluffy. Add egg and beat until incorporated. Reduce speed to low and add sour cream and vanilla and beat, until well combined, scraping down the bowl with a silicone spatula.

In a separate bowl, sift in the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt and whisk together. Turn the mixer on low and slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

Remove half of the dough from the fridge. Working with a 1-tablespoon-sized piece of dough at a time, roll into a round ball. Place dough ball onto the prepared baking pan (spacing about 2 inches apart) and use the bottom of a glass cup or the back of a large spoon to press and evenly flatten.

Bake on middle rack in preheated oven for 9-13 minutes or until the cookies are just starting to turn golden (NOT brown) on the edges (switching and rotating baking sheets about halfway through). Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on the sheet. Cookies will continue to cook while they cool. Repeat with any remaining dough.

To make the butter cream frosting: Cream butter in a stand mixer or using your hand mixer for 3 minutes until light and fluffy. Add salt, vanilla then slowly add 2 cups of powdered sugar and beat until smooth. Add heavy cream, 1 tablespoon at a time then add the remainder of powdered sugar until desired consistency and taste is reached (you may not need it all) and continue to beat until smooth.

Once cookies have cooled completely, frost and add sprinkles, if desired. Allow frosting to set, then store in an air-tight container.

Quick and easy sugar cookies made with only 3 pantry ingredients and no egg! So simple and foolproof, you can whip up this sugar cookie recipe anytime. Sweet, buttery, and delicious!

{3 Ingredient} Easy Sugar Cookies

unsalted butter (, room temperature)

granulated sugar (, divided)

vanilla ((optional, but recommended))

rainbow sprinkles or nonpareils ((optional, but recommended))

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, using a handheld electric mixer, beat together butter and 2/3 cup sugar until combined. (It will be a little gritty - that&#039;s ok.)

Add in flour and blend well (then blend in the vanilla, if using.)

Using a cookie scoop, roll the dough into 1-inch balls.

Gently roll the balls in the remaining 3 tablespoons of sugar until lightly coated; transfer to the baking sheets 2 inches apart.

With the bottom of a measuring cup or glass, press down on the balls to flatten. Sprinkle with some nonpareils (if using) and lightly press down again just so they stick. (The dough should end up being between an 1/8-1/4 inch thick, so 3/16 to be exact. They will look pretty small in circumference, but they will spread a bit to a normal size cookie.)

Bake for 14-16 minutes or until just slightly golden around the edges and on the bottom.

Remove form the oven and let rest on the baking sheets for at least 10-15 minutes (don&#039;t skip this step!) Then eat or transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Perfect Sugar Cookies

Challenge unsalted butter (2 sticks, room temperature)

vanilla

In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and salt, and set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, using the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  This should take 2-3 minutes.

Add the egg and vanilla and beat another minute or so.

Add the flour mixture slowly.  (Be careful not to add too much at a time or you will have a snowstorm of flour.)

Blend until all of the flour is incorporated.  The mixture will look crumbly at first but just keep blending until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl.

Remove about half of the dough from the bowl and knead by hand just a bit to form a smooth ball.  Roll out dough onto a lightly floured work surface, or onto a piece of plastic wrap (as described in detail in the blog post above).

Cut out cookies into desired shapes and place entire baking sheet of unbaked cookies into the freezer for 5 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350°F and bake cookies in preheated oven for 9-11 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of your cookies.
