3 Ingredient Easy Teriyaki Sauce Recipe

soy sauce (I

water

cornstarch

honey (to taste)

water (NOTE THIS IS REDUCED FROM ABOVE)

rice vinegar (to taste)

pineapple

pineapple juice

garlic (minced)

ginger

In a small pot whisk soy sauce, water, and cornstarch together until smooth. Add any of the optional additional ingredients you are using (vinegar, garlic, ginger, etc) .

Heat over medium-high heat until warm and then whisk in honey until dissolved.

Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and whisk constantly until desired thickness is reached. Do not leave unattended it thickens quickly once it gets boiling and will rapidly burn.

Taste and adjust as desired. If too thick, thin with additional water to desired consistency.

Easy Teriyaki Sauce Recipe

How to make Japanese style pizza from scratch!

Japanese Teriyaki Chicken Mayo Pizza (てりやきピザ)

Strong flour

Weak flour

Salt

Dry yeast

milliliters Luke warm water

Chicken thigh

tbsp Soy sauce

tbsp Sake

Sugar

tsp Mirin

tsp Ginger paste

Garlic paste

White onion

tbsp Mayonnaise

Cheese

Sweet corn (Optional)

Nori seaweed (Optional)

In a big bowl, sift in 90g of strong flour and 20 grams of weak flour. Add a pinch of salt and mix.

Pour 60ml of lukewarm water into a container and add 1.5g of dry yeast, mix until the yeast is dissolved. (Don't use water hotter than 138°f or 60°c, it will kill the yeast)

Allow the yeast to rest for 5 minutes, it should be a bit frothy. (If it's not, you might need to buy new yeast.)

In the bowl of flour, make a well and pour the yeast water in little by little, mixing in between each pour. The dough should be a bit sticky. If the mixture is too wet you can add more flour, if it's too dry add a little bit more water.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. (Try not to put too much flour on the surface, otherwise the dough might become dry and crumbly)

Put the smooth dough into a lightly greased bowl cover the bowl with cling film or a damp tea towel. Rest at room temperature for about 3 hours to rise. (Needs extra time in winter)

After three hours, your dough will have risen (hopefully!). Punch out the air and rest for another 30 minutes in a bowl.

During this 30 minutes we can prepare the topping.

Making the dough from scratch

Cut 100g of chicken thigh into small bite-size pieces.

In a small bowl, add 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sake, 1 tsp sugar, 2 tsp mirin, 1/2 tsp ginger paste and 1/2 tsp garlic paste, then mix.

Heat up a frying pan on a medium high heat. Add a little flavourless oil and fry the chicken and onions together until the chicken is browned and the onions are softened.

Add the sauce you mixed earlier to the frying pan.

Cook until the sauce becomes thicker and a bit sticky.

Once it's cooled down, take the chicken out of the pan and cut it even smaller.

Teriyaki Chicken

Now, roll out your dough. You can stretch it by hand or use a rolling pin to roll it out on a lightly floured surface.

Spoon the teriyaki sauce left in the pan over the rolled out pizza dough. You can add the onions too.

Sprinkle about 30g of grated cheese over the sauce.

Next add your chicken. (You can also add sweetcorn here too)

Bake for about 20 minutes on the middle shelf. (Keep an eye on it to make sure it is not burning)

Take it out and sprinkle with finely cut nori seaweed at the end.

Assemble and Cook the Pizza

This Homemade Teriyaki Sauce recipe is one of the easiest sauces to make and is a must if you love Asian cuisine. Use it in stir fry, as a marinade, or a dipping sauce.

Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together the water with the cornstarch until smooth, to create a slurry.

In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients (including the cornstarch slurry.) Bring to a boil, stirring it occasionally to prevent overflow and scorching. Then reduce heat to a gentle simmer for about 4 minutes until the sauce has thickened.

Remove the sauce from the heat and allow to cool. Use as desired.

(If using as a marinade omit the cornstarch and let the sauce cool completely before using. If not using right away, allow to cool, then transfer to a jar, fasten the lid and store in the fridge. It will keep for 1 week.)

How to make delicious Teriyaki Chicken Donburi. Juicy pan fried chicken thigh cooked in a sweet teriyaki sauce with a garlic kick served on a bed of fluffy, Japanese style white rice then topped with chopped green onion and a soft boiled egg.

Garlic Teriyaki Chicken Donburi (照り焼き丼)

Eggs

salt and pepper

tbsp oil

⅓ (40 grams) Spring onion (scallion)

Bowls of Cooked Rice

Fill a small pan with water and bring to a boil.

Once boiling, turn down the heat to a simmer so that it's not bubbling too much when you add the egg.

Add the eggs to the pan, turn up the heat and set a timer for 6 minutes.

Once 6 minutes have passed, transfer the eggs straight to the ice cold water to stop the cooking process.

Soft Boiled Egg

Sprinkle the chicken thigh with salt and pepper on both sides.

Once the pan is hot, add 1 tbsp oil and place the chicken thigh skin face down.

Once the skin is browned and crispy, flip the chicken over and cover with a lid. Cook for 3 minutes.

Cut the spring onion into diagonal pieces. (about 1 inch or 2 cm pieces.)

Once 3 minutes is up, remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.

Add the spring onion to the pan and fry in the chicken juices for a few minutes until softened slightly.

Put the chicken back in the pan and add 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sake, 1 tsp mirin, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tsp garlic paste.

Move the chicken around the pan so that the sauce covers the surface, cook until the sauce is thick and like a syrup.

Fill two bowls with rice, make sure to leave enough space for chicken.

Place the chicken and spring onion on top of the rice, make sure to drizzle any excess teriyaki sauce over the top.

Drizzle with mayonnaise, sprinkle with chopped spring onion and/or nori.

Cut the soft boiled eggs in half and place two halves in the centre of each bowl. (I make a nest with chopped spring onion to stop it from rolling.) Add chili threads / chili flakes for decoration and a spicy kick!

Teriyaki Sauce

Make the teriyaki sauce by adding all of the sauce ingredients to a small saucepan over medium heat.

Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and boil for about 1 minute. The sauce should be thick enough to coat the back of the spoon.

Homemade Teriyaki Sauce Recipe

(8 oz) water

(67 g) packed light brown sugar

(2 oz) low sodium soy sauce

honey

garlic, minced

(2 oz) cold water

Combine the 1 cup water, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger in a medium saucepan and set over medium heat.

In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with the 1/4 cup water and whisk until dissolved. Add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan.

Heat the sauce until it thickens to your desired thickness. If the sauce becomes too thick, add more water to thin it out.

I made this and it is delicious,  I did tweak it just a bit by adding a bit of sesame oil.

I didn't expect much as I'm used to store bought teriyaki sauce, but this is really tasty! I usually use just less of the honey as I find it quite sweet. 10/10

I suggest going with fresh ginger. It is no more difficult than chopping up garlic, and the flavor payoff is worth it.

This recipe took me less than five minutes to make.  I used it as a sauce with ground turkey and water chestnuts in a lettuce wrap.  I did add a bit of chili powder for a slight zing.

Thank you for this great recipe!  Absolutely fabulous!  If someone has a problem with the high sodium content in soy sauce, try BRAGG LIQUID AMINOS.  It is an all purpose seasoning from Soy Protein.  It is a natural soy sauce alternative with only 6% sodium, gluten-free, NON-GMO, and contains no preservatives.  My sister has a problem with the high sodium content in a lot of  foods so I try to use only no sodium or low sodium ingredients when I am preparing her dinners.  My grocery store carries it and the manager said most grocery stores should carry it.  It has the same great soy sauce taste without the sodium, gluten, GMO's, and preservatives.

PS:  I do not work for this company but wanted to share this information in case someone has a high sensitivity to the usual ingredients in store bought soy sauces.  Again, thank you for this great recipe!

This recipe was great for my late night need for teriyaki sauce. I had made some chicken kebabs and only after they were made did I realize that there wasn’t any teriyaki sauce in my pantry. Fortunately, I had everything to make this, I just needed to combine them and let it thicken. It was so quick and easy to make AND it tastes absolutely delicious. I didn’t have a clove of garlic so I ended up putting in garlic powder, and I used dark brown sugar as well as a reduced sodium soy sauce. To me this teriyaki sauce is perfect. I don’t think I’ll ever want to go buy teriyaki sauce from shelves anymore.

I used 1/4 cup honey, and 2tb molasses, ground garlic, and left out the sugar. I have to say this recipe is great! I will definitely keep rotating it into my meals!

I have used this recipe, with my tweeks for taste, many times, both in the Crockpot (slow cooker) &amp; in the oven, &amp; on b/s chicken thighs &amp; breasts &amp; on bone-in/skin- on thighs. I also add a bit of sesame oil, but very little, maybe a 1/4 teaspoon, because it will overpower other flavors. I also add a teaspoon, or more to taste, of seasoned rice wine vinegar. I always taste &amp; tweek, as some like a sweeter sauce &amp; some like it more savory with additional soy, garlic &amp; ginger. This is an excellent base from which to start!

This is Devine.. I chop up chicken thighs and coat in corn flour and fry with a bit of oil in pan, once cooked I coat in this teriyaki sauce serve with salad with pickled ginger and rice..family favourite!

Good recipe, but I found it's missing something.  Needs a touch of sourness.

I added 1 Tablespoon of Rice Wine Vinegar and it made all the difference.

It is very easy and flavorful but it was too sweet for me so I added more of everything else and then it turned out very nice.

I made it today and used it to season wok stir-fried noodles. So good! 
It took 5-6 minutes of whisking the ingredients over med-high heat to douse the bubbles, deepen the sauce to a dark, rich brown, thicken it to a perfect consistency, and meld all the flavors after adding the water-cornstarch mixture.
I cut the packed brown sugar to 4T, used 1.5T honey and it was plenty sweet for me.
I like knowing making it from scratch means one less store-bought glass bottle to buy and recycle..

I just made to use for a large church dinner so I quadrupled the recipe, then added more soy sauce and a little water. The flavor is intense and delicious. My pot boiled over so it's not as thick as I'd like but I will reheat before I use as a sauce for chicken lo mein. And the it should thicken up. Thanks!

This was okay, but not nearly as good as what I've had in restaurants or what my Japanese mother-in-law use to make. I used only about 3 Tbs. of brown sugar and even with that, it was still too sweet, so I would use a bit less sugar next time and a bit more ginger. Perhaps a bit more garlic as well. The consistency of the sauce was nice, though.

Substituted 1 tbsp sugar with 1 tbsp hon mirin and only used 1 tbsp corn flour. This sauce was perfect!

Such a yummy sauce. I made it for grilled chicken pieces and sprinkled sesame seeds on the pcs. It was such a winner.

We had to substitute flour for corn starch but other wise prepared as prescribed.  Very good on steak as well as dumplings, and fried rice.  Will punch it up a bit next time as I like hot spicy with the sweet.
