How To Build a Healthy Trail Mix

raw nuts i.e. almonds, pecans, cashews, peanuts etc..

raw seeds i.e. sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds etc…

unsweetened, unsulphured dried fruit

Fun stuff (amounts vary) i.e. 1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate, 1 cup popped popcorn, 1 cup pretzels etc..

Spice i.e. 1/4 tsp sea salt, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg (optional)

raw pecans (I toast mine

raw sunflower seeds

raw pumpkin seeds

unsweetened, unsulfured cherries

unsweetened, unsulfured raisins

82% dark chocolate

tsp sea salt

cinnamon

nutmeg

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.

Love the recipe! If you are looking for unsweetened or unsulphured dried fruit, try a bird store. I buy mine for my bird &amp; myself at a local bird store.  Always fresh.

Collect up your ingredients for making trail mix. I like to get a few things from each category though if we are hiking somewhere hot, I'll leave out the chocolate category so that it doesn't melt into a mess.

Put the assorted ingredients into different bowls or into the cups of a muffin tin.

Give your kids baggies/sacks/tupperware and let them pick and choose what they would like in their trail mix.

Toss any "leftovers" from the bowls into a big bag. We call that "family trail mix" and we share it when their individual bags are gone.

Semi-sweet chocolate chunks (about 2 cups)

To the bottom of the mixing bowl, add the marshmallows, followed by the Teddy Grahams, then chocolate chunks

With a mixing spoon or spatula, gently stir the 3 ingredients until the trail mix is combined. As seen in the video, it only takes a few stirs!

Peanut Butter Maple Snack Mix

Tablespoon melted coconut oil

Preheat oven to 275°F and grease a rimmed baking sheet.

In a large bowl, mix together the peanut butter, syrup, melted oil and salt. Add the cereal and toss to coat.

Spread over the greased, or parchment lined, baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes, stirring every ten minutes.

Cool completely and then toss with candies, raisins and peanuts.

Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.

Pour everything into a giant bowl and mix well.

Make the classically delicious treat of chocolate covered peanut butter balls, but make it satiating and healthy with oats! This easy-to-make decadent yet nutritious snack is high-protein &amp; endlessly customizable.

Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Balls (+ Add-Ins)

chopped nuts or seeds

coconut shreds ((optional))

semi-sweet vegan chocolate chips

Sprinkles or finely chopped nuts ((optional))

Add all the old-fashioned rolled oats, creamy peanut butter, ¼ cup raisins, chopped nuts or seeds, and coconut shreds (if using) to a large bowl. Using your hands, mix together thoroughly.

Roll the mixture into small balls with your hands, making each about the size of a tablespoon. Place the balls on a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper.

Put the baking sheet into the freezer for 30 minutes.

After the trail mix balls are removed from the freezer, melt the vegan chocolate in the microwave or double boiler and stir until smooth. Dip each ball into the melted vegan chocolate until completely covered, and place them back on the baking sheet. If using, add sprinkles or finely chopped nuts on top of the melted vegan chocolate.

Eat immediately, and store any remaining Trail Mix Peanut Butter Balls in an airtight storage container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Add raisins to a small bowl and add water until covered. Let raisins soak for 15-30 minutes, then drain and pat dry with a paper towel.

Line a baking sheet or large cutting board with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, microwave chocolate in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until chocolate is fully melted.

Mix raisins and peanuts into melted chocolate until evenly coated.

Use a cookie scoop or a greased spoon to portion mixture onto the prepared parchment in bite-sized clusters.

Allow bites to fully set, then store in an airtight container.
