This deliciously thick and creamy vegan custard is super-easy to make in 5 minutes, just blitz, heat and serve!

Vegan Custard

250 ml dairy-free cream

150 ml dairy-free milk

tbsp cornflour

tbsp caster sugar

tsp vanilla extract

yellow food colouring turmeric ((optional))

Tip all the ingredients into a blender or mini-chopper and blitz for 1-2 minutes until completely smooth.

Pour the mixture into a small saucepan and heat gently for 2-3 minutes, stirring until the custard has thickened.

Taste and add more sugar or vanilla as necessary.  Serve immediately!

To make with a blender:

In a small bowl, mix the cornflour to a paste with the dairy-free milk (add the milk a little at a time), until completely smooth.

Tip the cornflour mixture and all the remaining ingredients into a small saucepan and heat gently, stirring until the custard has thickened.

How to make your Vegan Custard

This is a simple, 5-ingredient vegan custard recipe. It is the perfect filling for a light and creamy dairy-free and egg-free fruit and custard tart.

Vegan Custard Tart

Dairy-free milk (cashew

Maple syrup

Tbsp Corn starch

tsp Turmeric

tsp Vanilla extract

Pie Crust (homemade or store-bought)

First, take a small bowl and mix corn starch and 1/4 cup of milk. Stir until combined. (I do this to make sure there are no lumps and the corn starch is properly dissolved.)

Take a saucepan. Add the remaining milk, the maple syrup, the dissolved corn starch and cook on medium heat until it starts to thicken.

When it is thick enough, add vanilla extract.

Finally, add the turmeric (optional) to get the yellowish color you would get if you add eggs. I would add first 1/4 tsp and see if you need the other 1/4 tsp.

Take a pre-baked tart or pie crust.

Pour the vegan custard in the tart crust, while the custard is still hot. As the vegan custard is already ready, you don&#x27;t need to bake it after filling. Just chill it in the fridge until it is set. You can serve and slice it only after that.

This vegan custard is rich and smooth and totally delicious! It can be made as a classic dessert topping or as a pastry cream. Easy to make with simple pantry ingredients. 

(42 grams) Cornstarch*

(14 ounces 400 milliliters) Coconut Milk

(115 grams) Super Fine Sugar (Caster Sugar)*

tsp Vanilla Extract

Mix the cornstarch with a little of the non-dairy milk until smooth. 

Add coconut milk and soy milk (or other non-dairy milk) to a saucepan and whisk in the cornstarch mix. Add super fine sugar, vanilla extract and turmeric. 

Heat on medium to high heat, stirring all the while until it thickens dramatically. 

Now it&#8217;s ready to serve as a dessert topping for cakes or pies or puddings etc. 

Or you can allow it to cool and serve it cold over fresh or canned fruits. 

Super delicious, creamy and rich and to use as is!   I will try it on apple crumble though..

Custard powder is made up of thickeners that give the pudding its texture. 
Cornstarch is usually used as thickener in cooking and can be used in making custard powder too.

Vegan Custard (Pastry Cream)

plant milk (soy, almond, cashew, etc)

cornstarch

full fat coconut milk (13.5 oz)

sugar

vanilla extract

Whisk the plant milk and cornstarch in a measuring cup or bowl until smooth.

To a medium pot, add the coconut milk, sugar and milk/cornstarch mixture.

Turn the heat to medium-high, and whisk until smooth. Bring to a simmer and continue whisking for about 5 minutes, until thickened.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and vegan butter, until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.

Place in a bowl with a layer of plastic wrap touching the top of the custard, to avoid a film forming. Place it in the refrigerator for a few hours to cool (you can speed this up by sticking it in the freezer for 30 minutes).

Once cool, if it is clumpy at all, use an immersion blender to smooth it out. You could also use a high powered blender, stand mixer with a whisk attachment or a. hand mixer to smooth it out. Use immediately anywhere you&#039;d like, or serve with a spoon and enjoy!

Quick and Easy Vegan Custard

Measure the oat milk

Measure the oat milk and pour it in a medium-sized saucepan.

And the vanilla sugar,

And the vanilla sugar, the caster sugar, the cornflour and the turmeric. Mix with a hand whisk.

Bring to a gentle

Bring to a gentle boil on medium heat, mixing constantly with a hand whisk.

When it starts boiling,

When it starts boiling, whisk faster to make sure the mixture doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan. It's ready when the mixture is thick and creamy, just like real custard.

Remove from the heat

Remove from the heat and transfer to a bowl to cool or start using it right away as required. To avoid the formation of a crust on your vegan custard, place a layer of cling film on the top. Remove the cling film before using the custard.
