The BEST Vegan Grilled Cheese Sandwich

4-5 Tbsp Vegan Cheddar Cheese ((spread // cheese

Heat a medium cast-iron or non-stick skillet over medium heat.

In the meantime, butter both sides of your bread.

Once skillet is hot, add your bread and lightly toast both sides (~1-2 minutes) — this develops flavor and crunch on both sides of the sandwich.

Remove bread from the pan and spread a semi-thick layer of vegan cheddar cheese on one side of both slices of bread. Then fold the slices together to make a sandwich (cheese in the center).

Return sandwich to the skillet and continue cooking over medium heat, flipping a couple times until both sides are nice and golden brown and crispy, and the cheese appears melty and gooey (~5-8 more minutes — lowering heat as needed if browning too quickly).

Enjoy hot. Slice in half for serving if desired. Best when fresh. Pairs beautifully with soup!

The BEST Vegan Grilled Cheese Sandwich | Minimalist Baker Recipes

Here are five deliciously simple ways to make a vegan grilled cheese sandwich. Yum!

Vegan Grilled Cheese - 5 Ways!

bread (any variety)

vegan butter (as needed for cooking)

vegan bacon (store bought or homemade)

vegan cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack style cheese shreds

mushrooms

vegan mozzarella style cheese shreds

granny smith apple (sliced thinly)

vegan cheddar style cheese shreds

jalapeno (sliced, seeds removed)

Precook vegan bacon slices first. Layer some vegan cheese shreds onto a slice of bread, followed by tomato slices, vegan bacon, sliced tomato, more cheese shreds, topped by another slice of bread.

Spread a bit of vegan butter on both sides of the sandwich, and cook over medium heat, covered, until both sides are golden and cheese is melted.

#1 - Vegan Grilled Cheese, Tomato, and Vegan Bacon

Spray a frying pan with olive oil cooking spray, and cook sliced mushrooms for 5-6 minutes, over medium high heat, until wilted. Drain off any excess liquid, and allow mushrooms to cool.

On a slice of bread, layer the cheese shreds, cooked mushrooms, more cheese shreds, and then another slice of bread. 

#2 - Vegan Grilled Cheese with Mushrooms

On a slice of bread, layer the cheese shreds, apple slices, more cheese shreds, and then another slice of bread.

#3 - Vegan Apple and Cheddar Grilled Cheese

On a slice of bread, layer the cheese shreds, sliced jalapeños, more cheese shreds, and then another slice of bread.

Rinse some baby spinach and wilt it in the pan you&#39;ll be using. Transfer to a colander and squeeze out the liquid.

On a slice of bread, layer the cheese shreds, wilted spinach, more cheese shreds, and then another slice of bread. 

#5 - Vegan Green Goddess Grilled Cheese

Vegan grilled cheese, flavorful and absolutely delicious! It's cheesy, super easy to prepare, and made with simple ingredients.

Vegan Grilled Cheese

cashews

carrot (peeled and sliced)

tsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

salt

tbsp tapioca starch

yeast

garlic powder

turmeric powder (optional)

Boil the cashews and carrot until the carrot is tender, for about 10 minutes.

Drain and add them to a blender among all the remaining ingredients.

Blend until smooth and pour the mixture into a saucepan. 

Cook over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly until it thickens. It’ll become a thicker melty cheese sauce. Set aside.

Heat a skillet or a griddle over medium heat.

In the meantime, butter each slice of vegan bread on one side. 

Add a slice of vegan bread, butter side down, and add about 4 tbsp of the cheese sauce on top. Top with another slice of bread, butter side up. 

Cook until golden brown and crispy (for about 2 to 4 minutes). Then flip and cook for another 2 to 4 minutes, until the other slice of bread is also golden brown. Remove from the skillet and repeat with the remaining ingredients. This recipe yields 4 sandwiches.

Slice each sandwich in half and serve immediately. It will get thicker as it cools and be less stretchy, so use immediately if possible.

How To Make The Perfect Vegan Grilled Cheese

Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.

Once the pan is hot go ahead and toast your bread (about 1 minute per side). This is not necessary but it does give the bread a good crunch, inside and out, before you actually make the sandwich. And, you don&#8217;t need to use vegan butter or oil. The bread will crisp up just fine in a good nonstick pan.

After toasting the bread remove it from the pan and spread 2-3 Tablespoons of the vegan cheddar cheese on one slice of bread. Place the second slice of bread on top and cook until the bread is golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. I like to press down on the sandwich with a spatula occasionally to help the cheese heat through and the bread crisp up a little more. Keep an eye on the bread making sure it doesn&#8217;t burn.

Once the sandwich is golden brown, remove it from the heat and serve immediately.

Start by buttering the outside of your sourdough bread pieces.

Spread sundried tomato pesto on the inside of the sourdough bread pieces.

On one piece of sourdough layer your 4 slices of cheese and then spinach.

In a medium size fry pan on medium heat place grilled cheese in center. Cover and cook for ~4 minutes or until side is crispy then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until crispy and cheese is melted.

Cut in half and sprinkle on fresh parsley if desired. Enjoy!

Use a large spatula to gently press down on the sandwich and then carefully flip it. Sprinkle this side with another pinch of black pepper and cook uncovered for another 1 minute or until the bread is beautiful and golden browned.
