However, this comfort food classic has also become popular for many other occasions, such as potlucks, holidays, and family dinners.  Funeral potatoes are basically a cheesy potato casserole. They're topped with some kind of crunchy, buttery topping. We're using corn flakes here, but crackers or potato chips are also common. Classic Funeral Potatoes

butter

condensed cream of chicken soup

sour cream

salt

Cheddar cheese

corn flakes,

butter, melted

Mix all ingredients, except cornflakes and 4 tablespoons butter, together.

Put potato mixture into a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Combine cornflakes and butter, and sprinkle evenly over top of casserole.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 40-50 minutes or until heated and bubbly.
