Crochet Flower Bookmark

Step 1

Foundation, color A - MR, or ch4, sl st in 1st ch to form a ring.

Step 2

R 1 - Ch2 (counts as a hdc), 11 hdc into the ring, sl st into top of ch-2 to join, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off, weave in ends. [12 hdc]

Step 3

R 2, color B - Slip knot yarn to hk and sl st into any st.Ch1 (not counted as st), 2sc in same sp as ch-1, 2sc in each st, sl st into top of 1st sc to join. [24 sc]

Step 4

Round 3 - *ch3, 1tr in same sp a ch-3, (3tr) in next st, 1tr in next st, ch3, sl st into same sp as tr, sl st in next st, rpt from * 6 more times, (2-sts will remain, the leaves will be added in this sp), cut yarn, leaving a long tail to be used for sewing. [7 petals]

Step 5

Leaf 1, Color C -Slip knot yarn to hk and sl st into the same space as the last sl st in round 3.Ch10, 1sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1hdc in next, 1dc in each of the next 2-sts, 1tr in next, 1dc in each of the next 2-sts, 1hdc in next, 1sc in next, turn.Sc in next st, 1hdc in next, 1dc in each of the next 2-sts, 1tr in next, 1dc in each of the next 2-sts, 1hdc in next, 1sc, sl st into 1st sc, cut yarn and fasten off, weave in ends.

Step 6

Leaf 2, color C - Slip knot yarn to hk and sl st into the same space as the 1st ch-3 made in round 3, then make a leaf the same as leaf 1.

Step 7

Stem, color C - Ch10, sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1hdc in next, 1dc in each of the next 2-sts, 1tr in next, 1dc in each of the next 2-sts, 1hdc in next, 1sc in next st. Turn, and sc in next st, 1hdc in next, 1dc in each of the next 2-sts, 1tr in next, 1dc in each of the next 2-sts, 1hdc in next, 1sc, sl st into 1st sc, ch60.

Step 8

Attach stem to flowerWith the wrong side of the flower facing you, slip-stitch the stem into the stitch between the two leaves on the flower.Then, slip stitch into each stitch back down the 60 chains until you reach the leaf, slip stitch into the sc on the leaf, cut yarn, fasten off, and weave in the ends.

Step 9

FinishWorking from the back of the flower, use a darning needle and the flower yarn tail to close the gap between the first and last petals, and make sure that the leaves and stems are on the wrong side (back) of the flower as you sew.Once the gap is closed, arrange for the leaves and stem to hang down from the back of the flower.Tack the top edges of each leaf to the back of the flower to hold them in place, secure the end, and fasten off.The flower head may not sit flat a first, but pressing and gently pulling it with your fingers will make it sit flat.
