Overnight Layered Lettuce Salad

lettuce,

green pepper, chopped

sweet red pepper, chopped

onion,

peas (about 10 ounces)

mayonnaise

sugar

cheddar cheese

bacon strips, cooked and crumbled

cranberries

Excellent salad. Enjoyed different flavors and creamy understated dressing. Enjoyed the peas and cranberries but too much cheese. Will definitely make again

I make this with sliced hard boiled egg, sliced water chestnuts and sliced mushrooms. This was a nice change with the bacon and cranberries

I've been making this recipe exactly as written for almost 40 years and, it's always a  BIG hit!. Even wilted the next day, it's terrific.

My mother used to make this salad and was always a favorite as a child.  I still love it and is a perfect salad to bring to family gatherings. It's also a great one to make when I have leftover chicken! Made this today!

I use more sugar in Mayo....also used grated Parm in it.....love it because it is overnight ....great at pitch ins

I'm made this layered salad many times and it was - eh,  OK.  NOW I find this recipe with dried cranberries added and I know I'm hooked for good!

I've made this for over 40 years.  Parmesan cheese and hard boiled eggs make it perfect.  I've never used cranberries.  Everyone loves it and it keeps beautifully if you have any left. It is perfect to make ahead for company dinners and potlucks.

I've been making this salad for years, it's great when you are feeding a crowd since you can make it the day before.  I've stopped using iceberg lettuce and use romaine and sometimes even a bit of spinach; the darker lettuce seems to have a bit more flavour.  You can definitely play around with the veggies you use except of course for the frozen peas.  I also use three hard boiled eggs, grated just before serving for a bit of additional garnish.  I put in a tin of sliced water chestnuts because I like the crunch but if you are not a water chestnut fan, leave them out,

You can't go wrong with bacon and cheese! I like to add a pressed clove of garlic, a tsp each of seasoned salt, ground black pepper and dried dill weed, and a dash of red wine vinegar to the dressing for some zip. Great recipe.

I subbed romaine for the iceberg lettuce.   Family likes it better.  I've been making this salad for years.  I usually put broccoli or cauliflower in it, but I didn't this time.  I thought the cranberries was a nice touch.

I'm not a big fan of salads but I loved this!! I served it for my church group carry in and I left out the bacon since there were some vegetatarians in the group. Even without bacon this tastes great and it's so easy to put together!

Delicious!  I made this for a tailgate, and followed the directions exactly as written, and it turned out wonderfully!  I did use mayonnaise, and not Miracle-Whip.  Perfect blend of flavors - this recipe is a keeper!

My husband loves this salad just as it is.  So for that and the fact that it is pretty tasty, I give it a 5.   NOW, that being said.... I cannot stand green or red peppers and they make me quite ill so I have had to create a different version of this and substitute shredded broccoli and shredded carrots for the peppers. I leave everything else just the same and I usually make a bit more of the dressing because I cannot abide  a dry salad.  :)   Always a great hit at church potlucks.

I too have made this salad for years. I have not used the cranberries,so I will try that. Also,I use 1/2 cup mayo and 1/2cup sour cream. I will use this recipe next time. I looks lovely.

Was a huge success..the bacon mixed with the dried cranberries gave it a very good taste

I mix 1 cup Hellmann's and 1 cup sour cream with 1 pkg Hidden Valley Dressing mix - Yum!
