<p>This Bacon Jam recipe is literally the best in the world. I know that's a HUGE statement, but I've been told that so many times that I have to believe it. It's made by slowly simmering bacon, onions, brown sugar, and spices until they become thick and jam-like. We love to serve it as an easy to make appetizer with cheese and crackers.</p>

The Best Bacon Jam

lb. thick cut bacon

sweet onions,

brown sugar (use coconut sugar

water

coffee

balsamic vinegar

Cut the bacon into half-inch slices and add them to a large frying pan. Don&#8217;t worry if the bacon pieces stick together, they will come apart as they cook. Cook over medium-high heat for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently until the bacon is cooked but still quite chewy. A few crispy bit are ok. Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon from the pan.

Pour out all but 1 tablespoon of the bacon drippings. Add the onions to the pan and cook for about 8-10 minutes then reduce the heat to low. Add the sugar and stir. Continue to cook until the onions have caramelized, about 20 minutes.

Add the reserved bacon, coffee, and water and increase the heat to medium. Continue to cook, stirring about every five minutes, until the onions are thick and jam-like, about 30 minutes. Remove from heat and stir through the balsamic. Taste for seasoning and salt if necessary.

Use immediately or refrigerate for up to a week. Bring back to room temperature before serving. There will be little spots of white fat when you take it out of the fridge. As the jam comes to room temperature, these will disappear.

As a 72 year old I never thought I’d find way to cook bacon that I never tried . My wife and I don’t like sweet things so much; especially after Christmas cookies and candy. That’s why I didn’t use sugar in my version. The carmalized onion added the perfect level of sweet. I also subbed cider vinegar for balsamic. Did use 1/4 cup bourbon and coffee, and just a bit of Aleppo pepper. Can’t wait to try this on an egg salad sandwich and about a million other things. Always on the lookout for new things to try and this is like finding a gold nugget in a muddy stream. Cook on!   Jim 

Oops! I am currently making this and the bacon is all on the crispy side.  I guess I’ll have to get the hang of cooking the bacon! Hopefully it doesn’t effect the taste or consistency. But looks delicious! 

This recipe is amaaaaaaazing!!! I made it as a surprise for my husband because his favourite burger has bacon jam on it and now I'm pretty sure I'll be making this at least once a week for the rest of our lives. I just finished making this, put it on toast points with and without different types of cheeses as well as plain. Even my fussy husband said oh my goodness, that’s good stuff. 
My only question I gave is when you have cooked the bacon , remove most of the fat , placing the onions in the pan do you ever cove them?

Hello I added the water as mentioned although it is not listed in the ingredient list. Are there any spices I'm supposed to include in this recipe?

I never got the onions to caramelize  did exactly as recipe said very disappointed!@@

Made this tonight and it was delicious.  I decided to add some finely chopped garlic and a seeded jalapeño in the last few minutes of step 1, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly.  

It was a little sweet, so I think I’ll cut the sugar in half next time, but definitely a great recipe.

This bacon jam is delicious!!! A staple for our Fall/Winter cocktail parties. Seriously! Guests request it.  We serve with Cambozola cheese and rosemary/raisin crackers from Trader Joe’s.

Bacon Jam

Bacon jam is made with simple ingredients of bacon, onion, garlic, and other ingredients and then slow cooked for hours. Perfect for serving with crusty bread, atop a flakey biscuit and so much more.

Bacon Jam Recipe

bacon

onions (finely diced)

garlic (finely diced)

brown sugar (packed)

cumin

cayenne

apple cider vinegar

maple syrup

Cook bacon on medium heat in large skillet until lightly browned. Transfer cooked bacon to paper towel lined plate to drain. Set aside.

Pour off bacon fat, leaving 1 1/2 tablespoons in skillet. Place garlic and onions in skillet and cook over medium heat until onions are tender and clear. Add brown sugar, cumin, cayenne, coffee, vinegar, and maple syrup to onion / garlic mixture. Bring to boil. Stir in bacon pieces and remove from heat. Pour mixture into slow cooker and cook, uncovered, on high setting for 6 1/2 hours or until liquid forms a syrup. Transfer to food processor or blender and pulse until it reaches the desired consistency. Let cool completely and store in an airtight container for up to four weeks in the refrigerator.

I have never had or made bacon jam so I have nothing to compare it to.

As a lover of all things bacon I have tried other recipes. All failed to excite. Then I tried your recipe. My life has now found purpose.  I was skeptical when I saw the title "The Best Bacon Jam ". The title is exactly correct! Made a single batch for topping burgers. Not sure if there will be any left by the time the burgers are done! Absolutely amazing!

Slow Cooker Bacon Jam

Start by cutting up a pound of bacon into 1 inch pieces and frying it all up in a large skillet over medium high heat.&nbsp; Cook the bacon until it is done, not crispy but browned.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Remove the bacon from the pan with a slotted spoon and drain off most of the grease, leaving only about 1 tablespoon of grease in the skillet.  Add in the diced onions and cook for 3-4 minutes and then stir in the maple syrup, brown sugar, coffee, apple cider vinegar and spices and bring all of that to a boil.&nbsp;

Add the bacon back into the jam and boil for 1-2 minutes and then transfer the to a slow cooker. Cook on High for 4 hours UNCOVERED, stirring occasionally.&nbsp;

Serve immediately or let cool to room temperature and refrigerate in an air tight container for up to 2 - 4 weeks.

Onion Bacon Jam

bacon,

large yellow onion, (about 3 cups, finely chopped (approximately ¼-inch pieces))

large shallots, (about 1 1/2 cups, diced)

garlic, (minced)

½ cup (100 grams) brown sugar

(85 grams) maple syrup

(79 grams) apple cider vinegar

chili powder, (optional but highly recommended)

Cook bacon.

In a medium saucepan, cook bacon over medium heat until crispy.

Set cooked bacon aside.

Place cooked bacon on a plate lined with a paper towel. Break the bacon into about 1-inch pieces to be added later.

Leave some bacon fat in pan.

You need about 4 tablespoons of bacon fat to remain in the pan, carefully remove the rest. (It is hot! We store it in mason jars.)

Add onions and shallots.

Add the onion and diced shallots to the pan with the bacon grease, reducing heat to medium-low. Cook until the onions are caramelized (about 15-20 minutes), stirring often.

Mix in remaining ingredients.

Mix in the garlic, brown sugar, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, chili powder, and pieces of cooked bacon.

Simmer.

Simmer for 7-10 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened. (Think of the consistency of a jam.)

Serve warm or cold.

Serve warm or cold, but you may want to warm slightly if it has been refrigerated.

Bourbon Bacon Cheeseburgers

Tbsp Bourbon

cayenne pepper

white American cheese ((or your favorite cheese))

mayo ((optional))

brioche hamburger buns ((or your favorite buns))

To a large skillet, saute bacon pieces over MED heat until crispy, about 8-12 minutes. &nbsp;I used center cut bacon, so there wasn't too much bacon grease, but if yours is particularly greasy, drain about half the grease. &nbsp;Add onion and garlic, cooking until soft and tender, about 3-5 minutes.

Add cider vinegar, brown sugar, bourbon, water, cayenne, and black pepper.  Stir to combine. &nbsp;Bring to a boil, then simmer, stirring occasionally, until liquid is mostly cooked off, about 10-15 minutes.  Mixture will be thick and syrupy.

Use immediately, or place into airtight container and refrigerate for 2-4 weeks.

BOURBON BACON JAM:

Add a drizzle of olive oil to a large skillet and heat over MED-HIGH heat. &nbsp;Add hamburger buns, cut side down, and toast until golden brown. &nbsp;Turn off heat and remove to a plate to cool.

In a large mixing bowl, add ground beef, heavy cream, salt and pepper. &nbsp;Peel the onion and grate (using a hand grater or even a box grater) about 2 Tbsp of onion into the meat. Use the fine side of the grater, so you're getting very small pieces of onion. You'll get onion juice too, and that's good.

Use your hands to mix gently until just combined. &nbsp;Form into 4 patties (for 1/3 lb burgers, make 6 patties, and for a 1/4 lb burger, make 8 patties). &nbsp;Make an indentation in the center of each burger with your thumbs to ensure even cooking.

Heat a drizzle of oil in the same skillet over MED heat and cook burgers about 5 minutes per side, or until cooked to desired doneness.

The last minute of cooking, place cheese slices on patties and cover pan with aluminum foil. &nbsp;Serve hamburgers on toasted buns with lettuce and bourbon bacon jam.

BOURBON BACON BURGERS

Bacon Jam: Salty, meaty, chewy, sweet, savoury, smoky, bacony goodness. Bacon is crisped and made into the ultimate breakfast spread with maple syrup, onions, coffee, brown sugar and pepper. There is simply nothing better than this on toast with a fried egg on top!

Bacon Onion Jam

onions

garlic (smashed with the flat side of a knife

cider vinegar

light-brown sugar

black coffee

thyme

Cut the bacon slices into one inch strips. Add the bacon to a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Cook the bacon, stirring frequently, until the bacon is browned. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the bacon to a paper-towel lined plate. Drain all but 2 tablespoons of the bacon drippings into a heat-proof jar with a tight-fitting lid.*

*Save the bacon drippings in the refrigerator. That's too much flavor to trash!

Place the Dutch oven back over the medium-high heat and add the onions and garlic. Stir well and reduce heat to medium. Continue to cook for about 8 minutes, or until the onions are mostly translucent. Add the remaining ingredients, stir well, and drop heat again, this time to low.

Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, and boil hard for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, stir the browned bacon into the onions and liquid.

Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally to make sure things aren't sticking, adding 1/4 cup of water if it seems to be drying out. When the onions are meltingly soft and the liquid is thick and syrupy, remove the dutch oven from the heat and let stand for 5 minutes.

Transfer the contents of the Dutch oven to the work bowl of a food processor that has been fitted with a blade. Fit the lid in place and pulse several times or until the Bacon Jam is a spreadable consistency. Scrape into a jar (or jars) or a container with a tight fitting lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to one month or in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Can be served cold, room temperature or warmed.

Bacon Jam Grilled Cheese

Slices Texas Toast

Slices Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Tbsp Butter

Prepare the sandwich by placing the three slices of cheese on one slice of Texas Toast, and the bacon jam on the other. Put on slice of bread on top of the other, so that the cheese and bacon jam are on the inside.

Heat a large frying pan on medium, then add 1 tablespoon of butter to melt. Add the sandwich and allow to sit and cook until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese is beginning to melt, around 4 minutes. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter, flip the sandwich over onto the melted butter and continue cooking for an additional 4 minutes, or until the bottom is also golden brown. Serve immediately.

Delicious BBQ Bacon Jam

sweet onion, (chopped)

shallots, (chopped)

garlic

rosemary ((about 3 sprigs))

Salt

brown sugar (or maple syrup)

barbecue sauce

Preheat oven to 400°F

Line bacon strips in a single layer on a baking sheet. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 20 minutes or until the strips are crispy but not burnt. 

Drain the bacon fat from the pan and set aside. Chop the bacon into chunks (don’t worry, it’ll be puréed in the food processor later) 

Place a heavy bottom skillet on the stovetop. Add about 3 teaspoons of the bacon grease to the pan. Set the stove on medium-low. Add the onion and shallots. Cook for 15 minutes, staring occasionally. 

Add the pepper, garlic, salt, sugar, rosemary, and barbecue sauce. Stir until combined. Allow cooking for another 15 minutes, occasionally stirring to avoid it from burning. Add the balsamic vinegar, scraping each side of the pan. Finally, add the bacon bits, and combine—Cook for another 7 mins. Adjust seasoning. 

Remove from the stove and allow to cool slightly (unless your food processor allows hot food). Add the mix into the food processor and pulse for a few minutes or until it reaches your desired consistency.Transfer into a clean jar and store in the refrigerator for 4 days or into a freezer-safe container for up to two months. 

Bacon Jam is the perfect condiment for burgers, steak, eggs, and just about every other dish really! The recipe combines sugar free maple syrup and bacon flavors to make a delicious low carb jam!

Cook the bacon

Over medium - high heat, cook bacon in a large skillet until crispy. Remove cooked bacon from skillet using a slotted spoon and transfer to a paper towel lined dish to set aside. Leave remaining bacon grease in the skillet. 

Caramelized onions and garlic

Lower heat to medium and add onion and garlic to the skillet with the bacon grease. Cook until onion is translucent (about 5 minutes).

Make it candy bacon 

Add the crispy bacon back to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Add apple cider vinegar, sugar free maple syrup, smoked paprika and black pepper. Lower heat to low. Cook for another 30-60 minutes or until mixture is thickened. 

Puree

Once mixture has thickened, remove from the skillet and transfer bacon mixture and bacon fat to a food processor or blender. Pulse or blend until a thick jam texture forms. 

Bacon &amp; Onion jam is one of my favorite appetizers - served with some crackers and cheese, it is such a treat. The balsamic flavor is deep &amp; rich, the caramelized onions give off such a sweet flavor, and of course, the taste of bacon is always amazing.

The Very Best Bacon Jam (Balsamic, Onion, and Thyme)

onions,

½ cup packed light brown sugar

balsamic vinegar (this is equal to ½ cup + 2 tablespoons)

kosher salt

Begin by cutting bacon into bite-sized pieces. (It cooks much faster this way.)

Cook it in a large skillet (cast iron works great) over medium heat, until it is crispy, but not burnt. If the bacon is really fatty, I will spoon some of the grease out into my bacon jar.

While the bacon is cooking, thinly slice onions.

Once the bacon is finished cooking, pour it into a strainer over a bowl to drain the fat out, then return 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease to the skillet to cook the onions.

Reduce the heat to low/medium-low and add the onions. Let them cook and cook, and cook, and cook for what seems like forever, stirring every 5 - 10 minutes. The longer the onions cook, the more caramelization and sweet flavor they will have.

Once the onions basically look like a pile of brown noodles, add a splash of balsamic vinegar to deglaze the pan and scrape any crispy bits off the bottom of the pan.

Then add the remaining balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and thyme. Stir until fully mixed and let this mixture caramelize and bubble for a few minutes. It will smell like onion soup and bacon made a baby.

Once it starts to thicken, turn off the heat and mix the strained bacon back in. Let this cool for about 10 minutes.

Pour the cooled bacon and onion mixture into a food processor or blender and chop/puree until it is your desired consistency. I like it to be thick enough where you can differentiate what is onion and what is bacon, but you can also puree it into oblivion and make it into a spreadable paste.

Transfer bacon jam to an air-tight container (I like to use a mason jar) and let cool. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use. Reheat before serving.

Bacon makes everything better, so it&#x27;s no surprise that Bacon Jam is one of the most delicious things you can make at home. This recipe is easy to follow and only requires a few ingredients, so you can enjoy the amazing taste of bacon jam any time you want!
