Better-for-You Bananas Foster

orange

unsalted butter

brown sugar

vanilla bean paste

orange liqueur

Remove 4 strips orange zest with a vegetable peeler. Squeeze the orange and strain the juice.

Melt the butter with the sugar, orange zest and vanilla bean paste in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring, until the sugar caramelizes, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the liqueur, orange juice and a pinch of salt.

Return the skillet to medium heat, add the bananas, cut-side down, and cook until glazed and golden, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and divide among bowls.

Add the rum to the pan and return to medium heat. Bring the liquid to a boil without stirring, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly, about 4 minutes. Spoon the sauce over the bananas. Garnish with whipped cream if using and the glazed orange zest.

Vanilla Ice Cream,

Melt the butter in a heavy skillet over a medium-high heat. Add the brown sugar. Stir together and cook for a minute or two. Pour in the cream and stir it around to combine.

Peel the bananas and slice them on the bias inside the peel. Drop the slices into the pan. Next, add the chopped nuts and stir them into the sauce. Then - and this is where you need to be a little careful - stir in the rum. Let it start to bubble, and then carefully use a long lighter to ignite it. (Be sure to have a lid handy in case you need to extinguish the flame.) Let the fire burn and go out (it'll only take about 30 seconds or so), and then stir in the cinnamon at the end. You may also cook the mixture without flambeing it.

Spoon it over a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream and enjoy immediately.

Spoon bananas Foster over French toast, waffles or crepes. Substitute peaches, pears or cherries for the bananas. Of course, then it probably wouldn't be considered bananas Foster.

Not sure what happened, but my rum didn’t burn off at all. The entire dessert tasted like rum. Also, the amount of sauce was way too much! I ended up using maybe one cup total and threw the rest of the sauce out. 

Easy and delicious.  I didn’t have run so I used Kahlua and it was delicious!

Is everyone an alcoholic? Everyone said “Too much butter...” but no one questioned the rum?  Half a cup? HALF A CUP?  Most other recipes call for 2-3 TABLESPOONS after researching where we went wrong ‍♀️ 

Agree that there is too much butter and it makes a lot of sauce. Though tasty and very easy I felt the bananas needed more carmelization.

10-minute Bananas Foster recipe made with bananas, easy caramel rum sauce, and vanilla ice cream. This New Orleans-inspired bananas foster flambe is a secret weapon of any date night.

Tbsp Unsalted Butter

Tbsp Brown Sugar

Cinnamon (or cinnamon stick)

Bananas (sliced lengthwise)

Tbsp Dark Rum (or bourbon)

oz scoops Vanilla Ice Cream

Tbsp Pecans or Walnuts (chopped)

Melt BUTTER in skillet over medium heat.

Add BROWN SUGAR and CINNAMON, stirring until sugar dissolves.

Add BANANAS and cook a few minutes on both sides until softened.

Turn off stove burner and pour in RUM.

Turn burner back on and allow sauce to cook a few minutes, stirring as needed, then serve.

If you don&#039;t want to ignite / flambe

Option 1) Gas stove burner: Turn burner on and adjust to LOW heat. Carefully tip the skillet into the flame to ignite the alcohol, shaking the pan around to baste the bananas until the flame burns off.Option 2) Match or lighter: Keep stove burner off and use a long match or lighter to ignite the alcohol, shaking the pan around to baste the bananas until the flame burns off.

To make banana flambe, there are 2 ways you can ignite the flame. BE CAREFUL either way and do not stand over the skillet.

Serve bananas and sauce in the warm skillet or transfer to a bowl. Add ICE CREAM and PECANS.

In this Bananas Foster recipe, sliced bananas are coated in a cinnamon caramel, then flambeed in rum and banana liqueur to create the treat of your dreams!

Add butter to a large non stick pan and melt over medium heat. 

Once completely melted down, whisk or stir in the brown sugar and let dissolve into the butter completely.

Add banana slices to the sugar mixture and cook for about 2 minutes on one side then turn over and cook for 2 minutes on the other side.

Add in cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg then finally the rum, banana liqueur and vanilla and cook until it begins to bubble.

THIS IS OPTIONAL: Once you see it bubbling, use a long lighter and light it but be VERY CAREFUL.

Continue basting until the flames burn out and then serve over vanilla ice cream immediately.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter just the sides of a 9-inch round cake pan.

For the caramel topping: Stir the sugar and 1/3 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Stop stirring, and gently swirl the saucepan occasionally until the mixture is the color of deep amber, 8 to 9 minutes. If needed, brush any sugar crystals off the side of the pan with a wet pastry brush. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and carefully whisk in the butter (take care: the mixture can bubble up considerably). Pour the caramel into the prepared cake pan, tilting the pan to cover most of the bottom (be careful: the pan will be very hot from the caramel). Arrange the bananas in a single, tight layer, then cover any gaps with the remaining slices.

For the cake: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. Whisk together the milk and sour cream in a small bowl.

Beat the butter and sugar together with an electric mixer on medium-high speed in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Add the eggs 1 at a time, beating after each addition and scraping down the side of the bowl as needed, then beat in the vanilla. Reduce the mixer speed to low, and add the flour mixture in 3 batches, alternating with the milk-sour cream mixture, mixing until just incorporated.

Pour the batter over the bananas in the cake pan, and spread evenly. Bake the cake until it is golden brown and bounces back when pressed and a toothpick or cake tester comes out clean when inserted in the center, 50 to 60 minutes. Run a knife around the edge of the cake to separate it from the pan. Poke the cake all over with a skewer, and brush the cake with the rum. Let cool in the pan on a rack until just cool enough to handle, 20 to 30 minutes. Invert a serving platter over the cake pan and, while holding them together, quickly flip them over so the cake unmolds, banana-side up. Let cool completely. Cut into wedges, and serve.

I must have done something terribly wrong because this was the worst cake I’ve ever had. I followed directions exactly as stated.

Followed the recipe exactly. Was worried when the caramel hardened faster than I expected but it turned out perfectly. It’s a beautiful cake. Great way to use ripe bananas instead of the usual banana bread.

Hubby wanted this for his birthday, and we are both amazed how wonderful this easy cake is to bake.  Added to the make-again file.  Just enough rum!

This recipe turned out wonderfully.  I made a couple modifications.  First, I added 4 tbs of butter and 1/3 cup of canola oil, rather than using all butter.  The cake turned out incredibly moist yet fluffy. Second, rather than brushing rum onto the cooked cake, I added 2 tbsp of rum to the caramel after taking it off the heat along with the butter.  I also added about 1 tbsp into the cake batter.  I was a little worried about the caramel when I poured it into the bottom of the cake tin.  It was my first time making caramel and it set hard, I thought I had done something wrong.  But I went ahead with the recipe as written, and the caramel melted beautifully into the cake when it was turned out and looked a lot like the photo.  The only thing I would change next time is using a little bit less batter for the cake, so that the cake : banana ratio is a bit more even.  I would suggest doing 75% of the cake proportions for a better ratio.

Bananas Foster Cake is a moist and tender banana cake infused with rum under a thick layer of sweet, rich and buttery Pecan Praline Glaze.

bananas (mashed (3 bananas))

pecans (roughly chopped (optional))

brown sugar (firmly packed)

Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease and flour a bundt pan or one 9x13-inch pan.

Sift the cake flour and then measure out 3 cups into a large mixing bowl.

Add the baking powder, cinnamon, and salt to the sifted flour and whisk together to combine.

In the bowl of an electric mixer combine the melted butter with the brown sugar, white sugar, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and rum. Beat until combined.

With the electric mixer on low, gradually add the dry ingredients alternating with the bananas to the wet ingredients. Continue mixing until the batter is smooth. Batter will be thin.

Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until cake tests done.

Allow the pan to cool 15 to 30 minutes and then turn it onto a serving plate.

In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter. Add brown sugar and bring to a boil. Boil for exactly 2 minutes, stirring continuously. Add the rum and bring back to boiling. As soon as it has reached the boiling state remove it from the heat. Beat in the powdered sugar and vanilla. Stir in the pecans. Spread glaze over the cake.

The cake can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Texas French Toast Bananas Foster

orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)

Batter: In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients until a smooth batter is formed.

Sauce: In a saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter, then add the brown sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar has dissolved. Add the cinnamon and orange juice and bring to a simmer. Remove the pan from the heat, pour in the rum and creme de banana, if using, then return the pan to the heat. Brush down the sides of the pan with water using a pastry brush. Remove from heat.

In a small saute pan, add 1/4 cup of the caramel sauce and the bananas. Saute over high heat until just warmed through. Keep warm.

Toast: Preheat a griddle or a nonstick pan over high heat. Dip the bread slices into the batter, then put them on the griddle, turning over after 2 minutes. To each serving plate, add 1/4 cup of the caramel sauce and top with the French toast. Spoon the bananas, over the toast and drizzle with some of the caramel sauce.

This was such a treat! Absolutely delicious.

Too much effort for a " lack luster" result.- If I'm gonna bake,/ cook- it had better taste better than this!- The boxed version  is better!

Delicious! Instead of the banana liquer, we had Sangster’s Banana Rum Cream we used instead- so good!

Used this recipe just for the bread and batter which was outstanding. However, keep in mind there needs to be some adjustments to this written recipe based on watching Guy Fieri in the video. He uses a full teaspoon of vanilla, not a quarter. He also uses about a quarter cup of Grand Marnier, not a quarter teaspoon. 

Made it with Challah bread  and was part of a Sunday.  Easy and tasty.  Crowd favorite.

Warm, sweet, chewy and sinfully good -caramelized bananas is the perfect topping for your breakfast pancakes, afternoon snack, or midnight craving.

Add brown sugar and cinnamon to a gallon sized Ziploc bag, add in banana slices and seal.

Shake bag to coat bananas.

Melt butter over medium high heat in a pan. Add in banana slices once butter has melted.

Pour in bourbon vanilla extract and cook banana slices for 2-3 minutes on the first side. Once the banana has browned, flip and repeat on the other side.

Serve the caramelized bananas warm however you&#x27;d like!

We like to place ice cream over rice cakes, pour bananas on the bottom of the ice cream, garnish with pecans and caramel.

These bananas are best served immediately after making them, but if store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 48 hours.

In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla.

Add in bread cubes and stir to coat. Place in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 350° and spray an 11 x 7 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.

Pour the soaked bread and all of the excess milk into the prepared baking dish, cover with foil, and bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center of the bread pudding comes out clean. Remove from the oven and set aside while you prepare the sauce.

In a skillet or frying pan, over medium heat, melt butter.

Add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Cook until sugar is completely dissolved, stirring constantly.

Add heavy cream and stir until well combined.

Stir in bananas and rum extract.

Pour sauce over baked bread pudding and serve warm and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Top with whipped cream and additional cinnamon if desired.

To make a shake, replace the Greek yogurt with vanilla ice cream. Drizzle caramel sauce on top - yum!

Melt butter in a 10-inch heavy skillet over low heat. Add brown sugar, allspice and nutmeg and stir until sugar dissolves. Add banana liqueur and bring sauce to simmer. Add bananas and cook for 1 minute on each side, carefully spooning sauce over bananas as they are cooking. Remove bananas from pan to a serving dish. Bring sauce to a simmer and carefully add the rum. If the sauce is very hot, the alcohol will flame on its own. If not, using stick flame, carefully ignite and continue cooking until flame dies out, approximately 1 to 2 minutes. If sauce is too thin, cook for 1 to 2 minutes until it is syrupy in consistency. Add orange zest and stir to combine. Immediately spoon the sauce over bananas and serve. Serve with waffles, crepes, or ice cream.

Excellent! Delicious! Amazing! I Didn’t have sugar, rum, oranges, vanilla, nutmeg, allspice, banana liqueur or bananas, so I substituted basil, garlic, pecorino, parmigiana, olive oil and pine nuts and made pesto instead! Served it over penne! 

This is an excellent recipe that everytime I make and serve all really enjoy it.  It is great to serve on a crȇpe, add a small dab of icecream or whip cream.  I prefer a nice Italian gelato and you can get really creative using not just vanilla, such a pecan butterscotch, etc..<br />
