bbq chicken recipe

This recipe uses only TWO INGREDIENTS - barbecue sauce and chicken (plus a little olive oil, salt, and pepper) - to make the crispiest, most perfectly glazed, sweet, sticky, and tender barbecue baked chicken you will ever have.

Two Ingredient Crispy Oven Baked BBQ Chicken

chicken

bbq sauce

extra-virgin olive oil (or canola oil)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Coat the chicken on all sides with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.

Place the chicken skin side down on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes.

Remove chicken from oven and turn the temperature of the oven up to 425 degrees.

Coat the top of the chicken with barbecue sauce using a basting brush. Use a spatula to flip the chicken over, being careful not to tear the skin. Baste the other side of the chicken, and place back in the oven for 7 minutes.

Remove from oven, baste top with barbecue sauce, and place back in oven for 7 more minutes.

Remove from the oven again and baste again, for a total of three times, and place back in oven for 7 more minutes.

If the chicken hasn't crisped and browned to your liking, move the oven rack up and broil the chicken for 3-5 minutes, until it's more crispy.

This Two Ingredient Crispy Oven BBQ Chicken recipe uses only TWO INGREDIENTS – barbecue sauce and chicken (plus a little olive oil, salt, and pepper) – to make the crispiest, most perfectly glazed, sweet, sticky, and tender barbecue baked chicken you will ever have. Gluten free, low-carb, and super easy to make!

Two Ingredient Crispy Oven BBQ Chicken

Tender, juicy + cheesy chicken lathered with fresh herbs and roasted alongside baby potatoes, zucchini + cherry tomatoes.

Lemon Feta Sheet Pan Chicken + Veggies

chicken breast

lb baby potatoes (sliced down the middle)

zucchni (chopped)

squash

cherry tomatoes

feta cheese

olive oil

lemon juice

lemons

salt

tsp pepper (+ more for the veggies)

garlic powder

basil

parsley

tbsp

garlic

Preheat the oven to 425℉

After chopping all of the veggies, lay the chicken on the baking pan. Using a sharp knife score the chicken breast in a grid pattern, making sure you don't cut all the way through. I highly suggest tenderizing the chicken, by pounding it out on each side.

Layer the potatoes and veggies all around the chicken. Season everything really well with salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste.

In a small bowl, mix together the feta, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, basil + parsley.

Spread the feta mixture all over the chicken + veggies.

Top with a few lemon slices.

Drizzle the veggies with olive oil.

Roast for 25-30 minutes or until the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165℉ with a thermometer. You may want to broil for the last 5 minutes to get a nice crust on the chicken + veggies.

Serve with fresh basil + more feta cheese on top! Enjoy!

The Best Crockpot BBQ Chicken (Easy Pulled Chicken)

barbecue sauce (We love sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ)

Italian dressing (I use this fat-free one)

Worcestershire sauce

light brown sugar (can reduce to 1/8 cup or omit if you prefer it less sweet)

onion powder

salt and black pepper,

First liberally spray the inside of a large crockpot or slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray, or for less mess, use one of these awesome disposable liners.

Next, season your trimmed boneless, skinless chicken breasts with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder, and place in the bottom of your crockpot.

In a medium size mixing bowl, add barbecue sauce, Italian dressing, light brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Whisk until combined.

Pour mixture evenly over chicken breasts, place the lid on the crockpot, and cook on high for 2.5-3 hours or low for 5-6 hours.

Use this meat thermometer to ensure chicken is cooked to 165 degrees internal temperature.

Once fully cooked, you can either serve whole or use two forks to shred chicken. I like to shred it right in the crockpot to soak up all the extra chicken marinade and BBQ sauce.

Serve on buns for delicious BBQ pulled chicken sandwiches or serve on pizza, salad, tacos, nachos, over rice, or by itself. Enjoy!

I never would have thought of the Worcestershire sauce and the Italian dressing. They made it so good!

Added some spicy BBQ to make it sweet and spicy!! Delicious 👍

Did this in the instapot on high for the slow cook option for 2.5 hours and cooked to perfection! Tasted like restaurant bbq chicken

This is the best BBQ Pulled Chicken we have ever had. Better than any restaurant or other recipes I have tried.
Thank you so much for the recipe!

This was way better than pulled chicken recipes I’ve had before! I never would have thought of Italian dressing. I tripled the recipe for a party. It made enough sauce to set some aside, which is good because I hate thin, watery sauce. When chicken was done I removed it, ditched the juices, put chicken back in with the thick, yummy sauce I had set aside. (Just because I’m picky!) But the recipe itself I followed exactly, though I didn’t triple the Worchestershire sauce bc it smelled pretty strong. Make this!

I gave this recipe to my daughter to make for our family dinner night. We liked it so much I’m making it again today. Thinking of leaving the chicken whole this time. This is an excellent BBQ chicken. I will recommend to all my friends.! Thank you for sharing ❤️

I followed the same recipe instructions and change the sauce and it turned out so delicious!!!

Loved this recipe! Even my 1year old loved it , I used breast and thighs because that’s what I had in my fridge and this will be a staple !

This 7-ingredient BBQ chicken marinade is easy to make & results in moist, flavorful barbecue chicken every single time!

BBQ Chicken Marinade

Learn how to BBQ a whole chicken to perfection with a homemade smoky spice rub. This easy step-by-step grilling guide delivers crispy golden skin, juicy tender meat, and incredible smoky flavor every time.

BBQ Whole Chicken with Smoky Spice Rub

chicken (4-5 lbs)

olive oil or melted butter

smoked paprika

thyme

cayenne pepper (optional)

lemon, halved

fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs

garlic cloves, smashed

kosher salt (for brine)

brown sugar (for brine)

water (for brine)

ketchup (for BBQ sauce)

apple cider vinegar (for BBQ sauce)

brown sugar (for BBQ sauce)

Worcestershire sauce (for BBQ sauce)

yellow mustard (for BBQ sauce)

garlic powder (for BBQ sauce)

smoked paprika (for BBQ sauce)

hot sauce (for BBQ sauce)

Salt and pepper to taste (for BBQ sauce)

Dissolve 1/4 cup kosher salt and 1/4 cup brown sugar in 2 cups warm water. Add 2 cups cold water, peppercorns, and a bay leaf. Submerge the whole chicken in the brine, cover, and refrigerate for 4 to 8 hours. Do not exceed 12 hours. Remove the chicken, rinse thoroughly, and pat very dry with paper towels.

Mix kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, dried thyme, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl. Rub the chicken all over with olive oil or melted butter, including gently under the breast skin. Coat generously with the spice rub inside and out. Stuff the cavity with halved lemon, smashed garlic cloves, and fresh herb sprigs. Truss the legs with butcher's twine and tuck the wing tips under the body.

Step 3: Set Up the Grill for Indirect Heat

For charcoal grills, bank all coals on one side and place an aluminum drip pan on the other side. For gas grills, light one burner on medium-high and leave the others off. Add soaked wood chips such as apple or cherry to the coals or place a foil pouch with holes over the lit gas burner. Adjust vents to reach a grill temperature between 325 and 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place the chicken breast-side up on the cooking grate above the drip pan on the cool side with no direct heat underneath. Close the lid and cook for approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes depending on the size. Avoid opening the lid frequently. At the 45-minute mark, quickly baste with melted butter mixed with a little spice rub. If using BBQ sauce glaze, brush it on only during the last 10 to 15 minutes to prevent burning.

Insert an instant-read meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh without touching the bone. The chicken is done when it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius). Experienced cooks may pull at 160 degrees and let carryover heat finish the job during resting.

Transfer the chicken to a cutting board and tent loosely with aluminum foil. Let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat for a juicier result when carved.

Remove the legs and thighs by pulling them away from the body and cutting through the joints. Remove the wings the same way. Slice the breast meat along the breastbone and against the grain. Serve immediately with your favorite sides and optional BBQ sauce.
