Jump into summer with these BBQ Tofu Steaks with Grilled Pineapple Salsa. It&#039;s the perfect grillable recipe that combines the sweetness of BBQ sauce with spicy jalapeños and zesty pineapple.  A delicious vegan and gluten-free meal. 

BBQ Tofu Steaks w/ Grilled Pineapple Salsa

extra-firm tofu, (pressed)

BBQ Sauce

tbsp. Bari Jalapeño Infused Olive Oil

(peeled,

avocado, (diced)

red onion, (finely chopped)

tbsp. fresh cilantro, (minced)

jalapeño,

juice of 1 lime

salt, (to taste)

coconut milk

water

sugar

salt

jasmine rice

To make the rice, bring coconut milk, water, sugar, and salt to a boil. Add rice, cover, and reduce to a simmer. Simmer for 20 minutes, until all the liquid has evaporated. Fluff with a fork and set aside.

To grill the pineapple, preheat your grill to 400F. You can either use an electric grill or an outdoor grill. Brush the pineapple with jalapeño infused olive oil and grill for about 5 minutes, on both sides, until the pineapple has char lines and is cooked all the way through. Remove from the grill and cut into 1/2&quot; pieces. Refrigerate while preparing the remaining components.

Cut the tofu into 3 even slices (about 3/4&quot; thick) and cut each of those slices into half. Brush both sides with BBQ sauce.  Place the tofu on the hot grill and cover with a lid. Grill tofu on each side for about 7 minutes, until the sides are blackened and the tofu is cooked all the way through.  Brush with remaining BBQ sauce and set aside.

Combine the ingredients for the grilled pineapple salsa. Taste and adjust seasonings.

To serve, place one scoop of rice on each plate. Top with 1-2 slices of BBQ tofu and a scoop of pineapple salsa. Serve immediately.

Sheet Pan BBQ Tofu

(16-ounce) packages extra firm tofu

cornstarch

cup brown sugar

smoked paprika

teaspoon chili powder

teaspoon onion powder

teaspoon garlic powder

teaspoons kosher salt

tablespoons olive oil

Press the liquid out of the tofu &#8211; you can use a tofu press, or wrap it with a towel and place a heavy pan on top of it for 10-15 minutes. Cut into cubes.

Mix the cornstarch, brown sugar, spices, and salt together. Toss cubed tofu *gently* with the spices to coat, being careful not to break the tofu. Transfer to a baking sheet and drizzle with just a tiny bit of olive oil so it doesn&#8217;t stick. Bake for 30-45 minutes, until the exterior is lightly golden and dry-ish to the touch.

While the tofu is baking, prep your extras for the bowls (see notes for ideas). Arrange beautifully in a bowl, snap a pic for the &#8216;gram, and devour!

I don't know what happened with this tofu... I drained it while cleaning the house so it had PLENTY of time to be smashed under a cast iron skillet!!! But it turned out gummy, not crispy, and when I left it in a little longer in hopes it would crisp up, the coating lost its flavor. Womp. I'm still a PoY fan!!! Surely this was a user error.

Just took the tofu out of the oven. It’s good, but I’d cut down on the sugar next time. It was a little sweet for our taste.

I’ve always liked tofu but this recipe takes it to a whole other level! I could eat this every day. I combined with roasted sweet potato with a light drizzle of maple syrup and a vinegar-based coleslaw. There’s leftovers for lunch tomorrow...if they last!

This was delicious! I didn't think I would like tofu, but this BBQ version was awesome.

Unfortunately, this recipe didn't work for me. I found the sweet overpowering. I quite liked the general method/idea and the way the tofu baked, but the overall flavour was strange in my experience. Not sure what went wrong, perhaps less sugar would be preferable depending on your tastes.

Update: This tasted much nicer the next day. I think everything had a chance to mix together more and I definitely got the BBQ flavour intended.

I barely ever cook tofu and I was thrilled at how approachable this recipe is for beginners. It turned out great and even my partner who doesn't like eating tofu snacked on a couple.

Yum!!! I made this for lunch and was delighted how good it was! (took most of your recos on pairings, and put it with sweet potatoes and green beans I roasted along with the tofu, quinoa, some shredded cabbage, your honey mustard and some avocado.) So excited for my lunches these week (since I made this with the intent of meal prep!) Thank you!!! Only change I will make next time is more olive oil and/or spraying the sheet pan with cooking spray.

Sheet Pan BBQ Tofu Bowls

Southern-Inspired Crispy Baked BBQ Tofu is easy to make, completely addictive and perfect in bowls, sandwiches, burgers and more!

Crispy Baked BBQ Tofu

Press the tofu by wrapping the blocks in paper towels or a clean tea towel. Place a plate or pan on top of the wrapped tofu, and put something heavy (such as a cast iron pan) on top of that. Let the tofu press for about 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and grease a large sheet pan.

Slice the tofu crosswise into 1/2 inch pieces, then slice each piece diagonally into 2 triangles. You can also simply cut the tofu into cubes or rectangles.

Add the tofu pieces to a large ziplock bag (I wash and re-use these). Now add the olive oil, cornstarch and salt, close the bag and very gently shake to coat the tofu.

Arrange on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes until golden on top. Remove from the oven briefly and pour on the bbq sauce, give it a little stir so the bbq sauce coats the tofu pieces and bake for another 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven and serve immediately. It can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-5 days, but it doesn&#039;t freeze well. You can reheat it in the microwave, air fryer, oven or the stovetop.

Easy BBQ Tofu

Cut the tofu into large cubes (about 1.5″ x 2″) and pat it dry with a towel.

Add the oil to a non-stick pan and add the tofu cubes and a few pinches kosher salt. Turn on the heat to medium-high. Cook 5 to 6 minutes until lightly browned on the bottom.

Briefly remove the pan from the heat to reduce spitting. Flip the tofu with chopsticks (the easiest method!) or tongs. Return the heat to medium-high and cook additional 5 to 6 minutes until browned.

Meanwhile, stir together the BBQ sauce, soy sauce and chili garlic sauce.

Briefly remove the pan from the heat again and drizzle with the sauce (watch for spitting). Return to low heat and cook 4 minutes, turning occasionally, until sauce is thickened. Serve immediately.

Not bad, I’m going to try it with pressed tofu next time because I think it almost always improves the texture

This easy BBQ tofu recipe is a delicious vegan and vegetarian main dish! Coated in glossy BBQ sauce, it&#39;s sweet, savory, tangy, and smoky. Grill it for a summer cookout, or make it in the oven all year long.

BBQ Tofu

(14-ounce) block extra-firm tofu

BBQ Sauce (for brushing)

Cooking spray

Preheat the oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Place the tofu on a plate and brush with BBQ sauce on all sides. Arrange in a single layer on the baking sheet.

Bake for 20 minutes, or until browned around the edges. Flip, brush with more BBQ sauce, and bake for 5 minutes, or until well browned. Serve with more BBQ sauce, if desired.

For baked BBQ tofu:

Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

Place the tofu on a plate and brush with BBQ sauce on all sides. If grilling cubes, thread the tofu onto metal or soaked wooden skewers.

Use cooking spray to oil the grill grates well, then place the tofu on the grill. Grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until well-charred. Brush with more BBQ sauce and serve.

For grilled BBQ tofu:

Prep Skewers: If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least an hour before grilling.

Press: Press tofu for at least 15 minutes, using either a tofu press or by wrapping it in a clean towel and setting a heavy pan on top of it, letting the moisture drain.

Assemble: Cut tofu into squares. Assemble tofu onto metal or soaked wooden skewers.

Brush: In a small bowl, combine oil and spices. Brush onto all sides of the tofu.

Grill: Heat a grill or grill pan to medium/high.  Use cooking spray to oil the grill grates. Cook the tofu for 5 minutes, flipping once, until char lines develop. Brush with the BBQ sauce and continue cooking for another 1 minute per side. Serve hot.

I pressed the tofu with my cast iron skillet for about an hour before preparing (I was worried because I didn't have the extra firm tofu). The spices were perfect though I was a little stingy with the barbeque sauce - my mistake. They cooked well on the grill - didn't fall off the skewer as I feared. Next time I'll add more sauce but overall a great dish!

This is a great side recipe. The best thing about it is that if you are using the grill anyway you can just throw a few skewers on the side and you have a side that goes with about anything on the grill.  I think some non-vegetarians just don't like the texture of tofu, but hey that just means I can take the skewer off their plate and double up. The spice combination is wonderful.  I saved leftovers and put them in a wrap for lunch with other veggies. No other seasoning was needed the tofu took over the whole flavor.

Im not normally a fan of tofu, but this was pretty unique.  The spices and BBQ sauce really gave it a wonderful flavor.
