Cabbage and Sausage

lb kielbasa smoked sausage

tbsps olive oil, divided

onion,

garlic cloves,

tsp kosher salt,

tsp black pepper

tsp red wine vinegar

Halve the kielbasa lengthwise and then slice it into 1/2-inch pieces. Heat a large deep skillet or dutch oven over medium heat.&nbsp; Add 1/2 tablespoon oil and the kielbasa. Toss to coat and then cook until browned, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer the kielbasa to a plate.

Return the pan to the stove and reduce the heat to medium low. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil and the onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion has softened. Add the garlic, cabbage, salt, and pepper. Toss well to combine. Cover and cook, stirring every 4-5 minutes until the cabbage is wilted, about 12 minutes.

Stir in the vinegar and return the kielbasa to the pot. Stir and cover for about 3 more minutes, until the cabbage is tender and the kielbasa is hot. Taste and add salt, if needed. Enjoy!

Place the cabbage, Cajun seasoning, salt and pepper in the pan.

Cook for 8-10 minutes or until cabbage is wilted. Stir in the sausage and cook for 1 more minute.

Sprinkle with parsley, then serve.

Cabbage and Sausage recipe is an easy 30-minute meal that&#039;s loaded with flavor! This dish is perfect with a side of potatoes or steamed rice.

green cabbage (roughly chopped)

carrots (julienned)

Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and sauté until the edges are golden brown, about 4 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Melt the butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and soften for 7 minutes, a little longer than usual to develop more flavor. Add the garlic and cook for 2 more minutes.

Add the chicken broth, mustard, brown sugar, hot sauce, and parsley and use a silicone spatula to “clean” the bottom and sides of the skillet, this will add more flavor to the dish.

Increase heat to medium-high. Add the cabbage and carrots and season with salt and pepper. Sauté for 10 to 15 minutes, or until desired texture is obtained.

Add the kielbasa back to the skillet and toss to combine and heat through.

Serve with mashed potatoes! (Or your potato side dish of choice.) Steamed rice pair well too.

Heat an extra large skillet or braising dish over medium high heat. Once hot add olive oil.

Add the sliced sausage and cook for 4-6 minutes until browned on each side. Remove from the pan.

Lower the heat to medium low and add in the apple cider vinegar to deglaze the pan, scraping any brown bits from the bottom of the pan.

Turn the heat back to medium high and then add the red onion and sauté for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Next, add the sliced cabbage and garlic to the pan. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until the cabbage begins to cook down in the pan.

Add the sausage back to the pan, along with the red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Continue to cook for 2-4 minutest until the cabbage has browned and wilted. It should be tender but still slightly crisp.

Taste and add extra seasoning, if needed, and then serve!

Oven Baked Sauerkraut & Sausage

sauerkraut (drained, rinsed, squeezed dry)

tbsp So Nourished Brown Sugar

tsp salt

Drain, rinse and squeeze dry (but not bone dry) the sauerkraut. Add it to the bottom of a casserole dish large enough to hold the sausage in one layer.

Sprinkle the sauerkraut with salt and pepper and 1 tbsp of So Nourished brown sugar substitute.

Top with the sausage and prick the each sausage with a fork in 4-5 places.

Bake uncovered at 350-F for about 45 minutes or until the sausage have reached an internal temperature of 165-F.

This was really good. Only thing I changed was to use half sauerkraut and half sliced cabbage rather than draining/squeezing the sauerkraut.

I was concerned about overcooking the sausages (and about overfilling my baking dish) so futzed around with cooking the sausages first then cooking the vegetables separately... what I forgot is that I normally cook sausages at 400F so they're ready in 20 minutes or so. At 350F the sausages and vegetables take roughly the same amount of time so following the directions would have worked out just right.

I’ve made this for many years and it’s a family favorite. The only thing I do different is I line my casserole dish with cooked bacon, not crispy just so there’s no yucky white fat showing, ha ha, and then I top it with the strained but definitely “not rinsed” sauerkraut. As the sauerkraut is our favourite part,  and then top it with sausage of choice and cook it the same way that you have mentioned here. You must try it with bacon…. I’m sure you will love it that way as well!

I’m Russian and we always add shredded carrot, finely diced onion, and minced garlic to our sauerkraut! Made it tonight- this is delish served with mashed potatoes or on a hoagie bun! Yum!

LOVE sauerkraut, I drain the liquid but do not rinse.  In my humble opinion the best part of sauerkraut is the flavor.  It's such a simple recipe but full of flavor.  Thanks for sharing.
