We've got some lovely twists on shepherd's pie on the site, but we were missing a definitive version of this classic family recipe – here it is!

No-fuss shepherd's pie

sunflower oil

onion,chopped

carrots,chopped

pack lamb mince

tomato purée

Worcestershire sauce

beef stock

potatoes,cut into chunks

butter

tbsp milk

Heat 1 tbsp sunflower oil in a medium <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/review/best-saute-pans">saucepan</a>, then soften 1 chopped onion and 2-3 chopped carrots for a few mins.

When soft, turn up the heat, crumble in 500g lamb mince and brown, tipping off any excess fat.

Add 2 tbsp tomato purée and a large splash of Worcestershire sauce, then fry for a few mins.

Pour over 500ml beef stock, bring to a simmer, then cover and cook for 40 mins, uncovering halfway.

Meanwhile, heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4, then make the mash. Boil the 900g potato, cut into chunks, in salted water for 10-15 mins until tender. <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/test-five-best-colanders">Drain</a>, then mash with 85g butter and 3 tbsp milk.

Put the mince into an <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/review/test-best-casserole-dishes">ovenproof dish</a>, top with the mash and ruffle with a fork. The pie can now be chilled and frozen for up to a month.

Bake for 20-25 mins until the top is starting to colour and the mince is bubbling through at the edges. (To bake from frozen, cook at 160C/fan 140C/gas 3 for 1 hr-1 hr 20 mins until piping hot in the centre. Flash under the grill to brown, if you like.)

Leave to stand for 5 mins before serving.

Perfect Fried Pork Chops Recipe

Bone In Pork Chops

Rinse pork chops and pat dry with paper towels, making sure to remove all excess moisture.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, seasoned salt, black pepper, steak seasoning, and salt to taste.

Dip each side of the pork chops into the seasoning mixture, then set aside on a plate.

Heat canola oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet and once it is hot (between 325-375 degrees F), add butter to the skillet.

When the butter is melted, cook pork chops 2 to 3 minutes on the first side; 1 to 2 minutes on the other side.

Remove fried pork chop to a plate and repeat with remaining porch chops.

Ready in just 15 minutes, this glazed chilli chicken with feta will be a weeknight winner!

Serve this delicious chicken and chorizo ragu over rice or pasta as an easy midweek dinner for the family. You can freeze any leftovers for another day

cooking chorizo, chopped

red onion, chopped

garlic cloves, grated

tsp hot smoked paprika

sundried tomatoes, roughly chopped

chicken thighs

can chopped tomatoes

chicken stock

lemon, juiced

jacket potatoes, chopped parsley and soured cream, to serve (optional)

Fry the chorizo over a medium heat in a large <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/five-best-saucepans">saucepan</a> or flameproof casserole dish for 5 mins or until it releases its oil and starts to char at the edges. Add the onion and fry for 5 mins more or until soft. Tip in the garlic and cook for 2 mins before stirring in the paprika and sundried tomatoes. Add the chicken thighs and fry for 2 mins each side until they are well coated in the spices and beginning to brown.

Pour in the chopped tomatoes and stock, and turn the heat down. Cover and cook for 40 mins until the chicken is falling apart and the sauce is thick. Stir the lemon juice through. Serve by piling spoonfuls of the ragu into hot jacket potatoes with parsley sprinkled over and a dollop of soured cream, if you like.

This delicious spinach and cheese lasagna is a family favorite dinner. The kids loaded up their plates and even asked for seconds.

Spinach and Cheese Lasagna Recipe

Ricotta Cheese

Cottage Cheese

Italian blend Cheese (shredded)

spinach

eggs

pepper

marinara sauce

lasagna noodles (oven ready)

Provolone cheese

mozzarella cheese (shredded)

basil (fresh)

Parmesan cheese

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta, cottage cheese, Italian blend cheese, spinach, eggs, salt and pepper until well combined. Spread half of one jar of marinara on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Top sauce with 5 lasagna noodles so all of the sauce is covered.

Spread half the cheese and spinach mixture over pasta and spread evenly. Place 6 slices of provolone cheese over the cheese and spinach mixture. Sprinkle on 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese.

Repeat layers.

Top with half a bottle of marinara.

Layer on 5 more lasagna noodles. Top with remaining marinara and top with remaining mozzarella cheese.

Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.

Remove from oven and remove foil.

Garnish with basil and parmesan cheese, if desired.

King Ranch Chicken has been around for years! This Slow Cooker version can be put together in just a matter of minutes and tastes delicious. A layered tortilla chips, chicken, and creamy soup mixture make this comfort food hard to beat.

Slow Cooker King Ranch Chicken Recipe

cream of chicken soup (1 can)

cream of mushroom soup (1 can)

Spray slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.

Spread a layer of tortilla chips in the crock pot to cover the bottom. (It&#039;s ok if they are overlapping.)

In a medium sized bowl combine the chicken, diced tomatoes, cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, chicken broth, garlic and onion.

Stir until combined.

Place half of the chicken mixture on top of the chips.

Then top with half of the cheese.

Cook on low for 4 hours or high for 3 hours.

Serve with extra tortilla chips.

These pork chops literally fell apart when you cut into them and the extra sauce made a perfect gravy.

Slow Cooker Creamy Ranch Pork Chops and Potatoes

ranch dressing mix ((1 ounce packet))

Spray your slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray and put potatoes on the bottom.

Place the pork chops on top of the potatoes.

Mix together the soup, ranch dressing mix and milk. Pour on top of the pork chops and cook on LOW for 6 hours.

Use the extra sauce in the slow cooker as a gravy for the potatoes and the pork chops.

Sprinkle with dried parsley.

Baked Spaghetti Casserole Recipe

Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain grease.

Stir in the spaghetti sauce and seasoned salt; set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, Parmesan cheese and butter. Drain spaghetti; add to egg mixture and toss to coat.

Place half of the spaghetti mixture in a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Top with half of the cottage cheese, meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers.

Cover and bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes. Uncover; bake 20-25 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.

100-150 milliliters whole milk, warmed

extra-mature cheddar cheese, grated

Heat the oven to 180ºC fan/gas 6. Lightly butter a large 2.5 litre baking dish or casserole. Put the potatoes and onion in a large saucepan, cover with cold water and bring to the boil. Simmer for 15 minutes until the potatoes are very tender.

Drain the cooked potatoes and onion, cover with a clean tea towel and set aside to steam dry for 4-5 minutes. Mash the potato mixture, then season to taste with salt and pepper. Add the 75g butter, mustard and enough warm milk to loosen the mixture to a light, fluffy consistency, then beat in the eggs.

Add three-quarters of the grated cheese to the mash and mix well. Spoon the cheese and potato mixture into the prepared dish, then sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top.

Bake for 20 to 30 minutes or until the pie is steaming hot and the top is golden brown. Serve immediately, garnished with chives if you like, with steamed cabbage or salad leaves.

In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Pour this mixture over the hamburger steaks in the baking dish. Scatter sliced onions and mushrooms (if using) over the top.
