Fried Cabbage and Noodles

olive oil

yellow onion (thinly sliced)

garlic (minced)

Worcestershire sauce

oregano

thyme

wide egg noodles

cabbage

butter

Salt and pepper (to taste)

Place a large pot over medium-high heat and add the oil. Once the oil is hot, add the onion and saute until soft and browned, about 5-6 minutes.

Add garlic, oregano and thyme, stir and cook for 30 seconds.

Add Worcestershire sauce and the sliced cabbage to the pot, season with salt. Saute until cabbage has browned and then add 1/4 cup water. Continue to sauté the cabbage until it is tender, about 15 minutes, and use the water to dissolve any browned bits off the bottom of the pot.

In the meantime, bring a pot of water to a boil and cool the noodles per package directions. Drain and set aside.

Once the cabbage is tender, remove from heat and gently stir in the cooked and drained noodles. Add butter, and season with salt and pepper. Stir to combine, until the butter is melted.

Taste and adjust for salt and pepper.

Serve warm garnished with chopped parsley and oregano.

Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Once melted, increase the heat to medium high and saute the onions and cabbage in the butter. Saute for 10 minutes, stirring often. Add in the pancetta and saute for another 7 minutes. Remove from heat.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the egg noodles (or gnocchi) according to package directions. Drain well.

Add drained noodles (or gnocchi) to cabbage mixture and season with black pepper. Spread crumbled goat cheese over the top and stir gently until melted and everything is combined. Serve hot.

In a large Dutch oven cook the bacon until almost crisp.

Add the cooked noodles to the Dutch oven, remaining 3 tbsp of butter and stir. Cook for a couple more minutes, until everything is heated through.

Taste for seasoning and adjust with salt and pepper as necessary. Serve warm with lots of freshly ground black pepper.

Prepare Reames frozen egg noodles according to package directions. When they are done, drain and place back in sauce pan with butter.

Meanwhile, in a large nonstick skillet cook bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pan with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel lined plate.

Instant Pot Cabbage and Pasta | Haluski Recipe

Place butter, onion, mushrooms, cabbage, marjoram, salt, and pepper into the Instant Pot.

Add water and pasta and mix well.

Scatter peas and carrots on top. Do not stir.

Close the lid. Press PRESSURE COOK, and cook on HIGH PRESSURE for 5 minutes. Allow the pot to rest undisturbed for 10 minutes, and then release all remaining pressure.

Serve and enjoy!

Sauté shallot in a dutch oven with 2 tbsp butter over medium heat for about 5 minutes.

Add chopped cabbage and continue cooking for another 5 mins.

For spaetzel, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Mix together eggs, flour, and salt.

Fill spaetzle maker with dough and press over boiling to create noodles. Let cook for about 30-45 seconds then scoop out with a spider strainer.

Add spaetzle noodles and remaining butter to cabbage mixture, add salt and pepper to taste and toss. Serve hot!

Heat a large, deep pan over medium heat. To the pan, add 3 tablespoons of butter and 1 tablespoon of oil. Add onions and cook for 8-10 minutes or until they begin to soften and become lightly golden brown.

Add shredded cabbage to the onions and toss to combine. Add 3 tablespoons of water to the pan, reduce to medium low, and cover with a lid. Allow mixture to simmer for 15 minutes (or until cabbage is tender). stirring occasionally.

Remove lid from pan, stir in remaining 2 tablespoons of butter, then toss cooked egg noodles with onions and cabbage. Turn heat up to medium and allow everything to cook together for 8-10 minutes, giving everything a toss frequently. Be sure to adjust the heat so that the cabbage and noodles get slightly crispy in places, but so that it does not burn. If the pan seems a bit dry, you can add a few more tablespoons of butter, or a little bit of water or reserved cooking liquid.

Remove pan from the heat and season to your taste with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with paprika before serving.

I grew up with my grandma making a version of this. It was basically the cabbage sauteed in the bacon fat with just salt, pepper and a little sugar to cut the cabbage tartness and then mix it with what we called haluski - which were tiny drop dumplings (instead of noodles)made one by one! Never thought of frying bacon and using that fat (l always keep bacon fat saved in the fridge)and adding some crumbles bacon.  Sounds like an interesting addition!  Thanks! We called it kapusta &amp; haluski! My grandparents were from Austria-Hungary.

Boil the egg noodles in salted water until just al dente, drain, rinse and set aside.

In a large frying pan or Dutch oven, melt 1 to 2 tablespoons butter or oil, and cook onions until soft.

Add the kielbasa, and cook until just browned. Remove to a plate, cover, and set aside

Add the cabbage, and cook until slightly soft.

Mix in the egg noodles, adding butter as you go, and cook until warm and heated through. Stir in cooked kielbasa, and add more butter, if needed

Making Haluski tonight and adding kielbasa. I am from Pittsburgh originally, and live in IL now. I turned many people into kielbasa lovers!!! Cabbage is great to snack on too.

Instant Pot Cabbage and Noodles

Hit SAUTE on the Instant Pot, and when it reads Hot, add 1 tablespoon of butter, the onion and kielbasa, and cook until onions are slightly soft

Hit CANCEL, and use some of the water to deglaze pot, if necessary

Add the sliced cabbage, then egg noodles and then, the water. The water won&#x27;t cover the noodles, but this is fine.  Add 3 tablespoons of butter over the noodles

Place the lid on the pressure cooker, make sure vent is on Sealing position, then hit PRESSURE COOK for 2 minutes. Pot will take a few minutes to reach pressure, then begin cooking

When pot beeps, do a quick or gradual quick release if liquid squirts out. When pin drops, remove lid, and hit CANCEL to turn pot off.

Noodles will not be fully cooked, but start stirring everything together, and they will soften and cook as you mix them with the liquid from the pot. Hit SAUTE and cook for 1 or 2 minutes to help reduce extra liquid if needed.

Hit CANCEL, stir in remaining butter, and add salt and pepper to taste

Pour Haluski into a serving bowl or platter, and serve with sour cream or cottage cheese, if desired

Really enjoyed my version of this recipe. I used angel hair pasta and used beef broth instead of water. Only problem I had was that the angel hair was not well-suited for this, which is on me, not you. The angel hair did not completely cook until I added a bit more water and cooked for a few more minutes. After I got the pasta done, it was great! I am a lifelong veggie hater so I am always looking for good recipes that can improve my veggie intake. (I am almost 70 years old and still have daddy issues w/food, where he would force me to eat them. And eggs as well!).

Excellent!  I had another type of noodle/pasta, so I just cooked on 4 min instead of 2.  Turned out perfect.

Just made this (sans sausage) as a side for my corned beef. Turned out perfect! I was skeptical at the noodles finishing cooking as you stirred, took about 5 min vs the 1-2 stated in recipe, but they do cook through to the perfect tenderness. Only thing changed is adding 3Tbsp of minced garlic before adding the water. And I love that they’re not literally dripping in butter like they always seem to on the stovetop. Will definitely make this one again!
