McDonald's hash browns are iconic, and super easy to make at home. Make a double or triple batch, and store the extra hash browns in a freezer-safe bag so you'll always be able to get your hash brown fix — without getting up at the crack of dawn or waiting in a long drive-thru line.

Peel the potatoes and discard the skins, placing the potatoes in a bowl of cold water to keep them from discoloring.

Meanwhile, bring 3 cups of water to a boil with the salt and sugar in a medium saucepan. When the water is boiling, grate the potatoes through the large hole of a box grater and add them to the boiling water. Cook for three minutes.

Remove the potatoes to a strainer and run them under cold water to stop the cooking process.

Transfer the potatoes to a cheesecloth-lined strainer and squeeze out most of the excess water. There should be some water remaining to help bind with the flour, but the potatoes should not be dripping wet.

Place the strained potatoes in a medium bowl and mix with the rice flour, corn flour, onion powder, and white pepper.

Form four patties about 1/4 cup each and shape them into large ovals.

Freeze the patties for one to three hours, until they're hardened all the way through.

In a large sauté pan, heat an inch of oil over medium-high heat until it's shimmering.

Carefully add the potato patties to the hot oil, splitting them into two batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.

Flip the hash brown halfway through, cooking for 4 to 5 minutes per side until they're golden brown and crispy on both sides.

Remove the hash brown to a paper towel-lined plate.

Our Hash Brown Crust Bacon and Cheddar Quiche is a fun twist on a traditional quiche. It has a crispy hash brown crust! This is a crowd pleaser, and easy on you too because you can make it ahead!

Hash Brown Crust Bacon and Cheddar Quiche

frozen hash browns (thawed)

white cheddar (shredded)

black pepper

unsalted butter

onion (thinly sliced)

eggs (lightly beaten)

heavy cream (or whole milk)

bacon

white cheddar cheese (shredded)

tbs chives (thinly sliced, plus more for garnish)

salt and pepper

Squeeze as much liquid from the thawed hash browns as possible and place into a large mixing bowl. Add cheddar, salt and pepper and stir together.

Lightly grease a 9” spring form pan with cooking spray and evenly press the hash browns mixture into the bottom and sides of the pan, making sure you don&#039;t have any holes within the crust (this is important to prevent any leakage)

Place the pan in the freezer and freeze for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 425˚F.

Place frozen crust until the oven and par-bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and slightly cool.

In a skillet melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and lightly caramelize for 10 to 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine eggs and cream. Whisk together until light and fluffy. Add remaining ingredients, including caramelized onions and stir together until mixed up. Season with salt and pepper.

Pour filling mixture into the par-baked crust and place into the oven.

Lower oven temperature to 375˚F and bake the quiche for 25 to 30 minutes or until the eggs have just set.

Remove quiche from oven and score the perimeter with a paring knife. Loosen springform pan from sides of quiche and place quiche back into the oven for an additional 10 to 15 minutes. (this will help the crust get crisp on the sides)

Remove quiche form oven and cool for 10 minutes.

Slice quiches into wedges, top with sliced chives and serve.

Finely shred the cabbage using a food processor (a mandolin or sharp knife can also be used).

Add the eggs, salt, and pepper to a large bowl and whisk together.

Add the cabbage and mix well.

Place a nonstick frying pan over medium heat and add the oil.

Divide the cabbage mixture into 6 piles, press gently to flatten.

Saute for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crunchy.

Serve hot!

Boil potatoes until tender. Melt the butter in a shallow pan (ovenproof if you have it), then fry Festive red salad for a few mins to soften. Stir in the well-drained spuds with some seasoning, press down and carry on cooking to crisp the bottom and heat through.

If you like, dot the top with a bit more butter and grill to crisp it up. Eat with fried eggs and slices of leftover ham, if you like.

Spicy Avocado Hash Brown Toast

hashbrowns (thawed)

avocado

boiled egg

jalapeno (finely diced)

onion (finely diced)

salt + pepper

hot honey

hot chili oil

Start off by boiling your egg and air fryer your hash brown, while that cooking make the avocado mixture.

In a bowl add avocado, salt + pepper, diced jalapeños and onions. I also added cilantro because I had some on hand. Combine everything together until it&#39;s fully mixed.

Place the toasted hash browns on a plate and split the avocado mixture in half and add it to the top of each hashbrown. Next grate the 1 boiled egg per hash brown on top of the avocado mixture, drizzle some hot chili oil and hot honey. Enjoy!

Assemble

Crispy cheesy potato waffles that resemble hash browns. They freeze well so you can make a big batch for later!

Cheesy Hash Brown Waffles

cheddar cheese (add less to make it lighter and less cheesy)

eggs,

garlic,

tsp dried marjoram (or oregano

all-purpose flour (I used Bob's Redmill's 1-to-1 gluten-free blend)

tsp baking powder

For the waffle iron cooking oil

Add the grated potatoes to a bowl and sprinkle with the salt. Toss and let sit for 5-10 minutes. Squeeze out as much excess water as you can.

To a large bowl add the potatoes, cheddar, eggs, minced garlic, dried marjoram or oregano, flour, and baking powder. Mix well with a fork or spoon. 

Preheat your waffle iron. I set mine to medium heat.

Spray with cooking spray and add about 1 cup of the batter in the middle and spread it out so that it’s flat and can crisp up (or simply add enough to fill the whole waffle iron depending on the size of your waffle iron and the waffle shape you want). Cook according to the manufacturer's instructions until golden brown. I cook mine for 8-10 minutes as the potatoes need a little more time than regular waffle batter would. Repeat with the rest of the batter.

Keep the waffles in the oven preheated to 200F (100C) to keep them warm until ready to serve.

Enjoy with your toppings of choice. I like serving mine with sunny side-up eggs, smoked salmon, and pickled red onions.

Try this vegan take on the classic English breakfast that boasts vegan sausages with hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes, scrambled tofu and baked beans

Vegan fry-up

potato,

peanut butter

cherry tomatoes

sunflower oil

maple syrup

soy sauce

¼ tsp smoked paprika

Portobello mushroom, sliced

pack silken tofu

yeast

turmeric

garlic, crushed

vegan sausages (we used Dee’s leek & onion)

x 200 grams can baked beans

Cook the potato whole in a large pan of water, boil for 10 mins then drain and allow to cool. Peel the skin away then coarsely grate. Mix with the peanut butter and season well. Set aside in the fridge until needed.

Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Put the cherry tomatoes onto a baking tray, drizzle with 2 tsp sunflower oil, season and bake for 30 mins or until the skins have blistered and start to char. Cook the beans and sausages following the instructions on the pack so they're ready to serve at the same time as the scrambled tofu.

Meanwhile, mix the maple syrup, soy sauce and ¼ tsp smoked paprika together in a large bowl, add the sliced mushroom and toss to coat in the mixture. Leave to stand while you pour 2 tsp sunflower oil into a non-stick frying pan and bring it up to a medium high heat. Fry the mushroom until just starting to turn golden but not charred. Scoop onto a plate and keep warm until serving.

Put 1 tbsp oil into the frying pan and add spoonfuls of the potato mixture – you should get about 4. Fry for 3-4 mins each side then drain onto kitchen paper.

Crumble the tofu into your frying pan and sprinkle over the remaining ingredients and a good pinch of salt and pepper. If the pan looks a little dry add a splash more oil. Fry for 3-4 mins or until the tofu is broken into pieces, well coated in the seasoning and hot through.

Divide everything between 2 plates and serve with a hot mug of tea made using soy milk.
