This easy recipe for <strong>Spiked Hot Apple Cider</strong> is perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Made with cinnamon sticks, star anise, clove, allspice, fresh oranges and a spiced rum to warm you right up!

Hot Spiked Mulled Apple Cider

apple juice or apple cider

orange,

cinnamon

star anise

whole cloves

allspice

1″ ginger root, sliced

spiced rum (I used Captain Morgan)

To a large 10 qt dutch oven, add apple juice, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, star anise, whole cloves, whole allspice and ginger root. (If you have a spice ball, add clove and allspice to that. It&#8217;s easier cleanup after wards.

Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce to simmer for 2-3 hours.

Pour fresh apple cider in a heavy-bottom saucepan (or slow cooker) and set on medium-high heat.

Place your mulling spices in a fabric bag and toss it into your pot. Stir occasionally, squeezing the bag of spices with a spoon like you would a tea bag.

Heat the cider until it is hot and flavorful; then set the temperature on warm.

Optional: Garnish the pot with apple and orange slices. Serve in a mug, garnished with a cinnamon stick.

Mash the fruit with a potato masher to release the juices.

Carefully strain the solids from the liquids using a fine mesh sieve. Discard solids and store cider in an airtight container for up to 1 week or freeze for later use.

lbs apples (assorted variety (about 8 medium apples))

Core and roughly chop your apples (no need to peel). Place them in a large soup pot. Slice your orange into rings and add it to the pot, again, no need to peel the skin.

Add spices: 3-4 cinnamon sticks, 1 whole nutmeg, 2 tsp whole cloves.

Drizzle the top with honey, then pour in 11 cups water to cover your fruit.*

Bring the pot to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium and lightly boil uncovered for 1 hour. Reduce heat to medium/low, cover and simmer another 2 hours. The juice should begin to turn amber in color when it&#039;s finished. Add more honey and hot water to taste. It should be sweet and spicy.

Strain your cider through a fine mesh colander or through a cheese cloth placed over a regular colander. Squeeze out as much juice as you can and discard the fruit pulp. Serve hot.

Slow Cooker Spiced Apple Cider

Place the apple cider, orange juice, lemon juice, sugar and spice mix in a 4 quart (or larger) slow cooker. Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours.

apples (we use 5 Gala and 5 Honeycrisp)

Quarter each apple and remove the core. Place apple slices in a large stockpot and add water.

Stir in sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then cover the pot with a lid and continue simmering for 2 hours.

Stir well, then carefully strain the apple mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. Discard solids from the sieve. Line the sieve with cheesecloth and strain the cider again.

Serve warm, or refrigerate for 1–2 hours until cold.

This was my first time ever making cider! It was so amazing and easy. I absolutely loved this recipe! I have a question though, I normally like thicker apple cider I'm not sure if that sounds weird lol. But the store bought kind from Target is my favorite because it's not watery it's a little thicker. Is there a way I can thicken the cider with this recipe?

Made this for the first time last Halloween and it was a huge hit.
