This easy recipe for <strong>Spiked Hot Apple Cider</strong> is perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Made with cinnamon sticks, star anise, clove, allspice, fresh oranges and a spiced rum to warm you right up!

Hot Spiked Mulled Apple Cider

spiced rum (I used Captain Morgan)

To a large 10 qt dutch oven, add apple juice, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, star anise, whole cloves, whole allspice and ginger root. (If you have a spice ball, add clove and allspice to that. It&#8217;s easier cleanup after wards.

Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce to simmer for 2-3 hours.

Hot Apple Cider (also known as Mulled Apple Cider) is a delicious beverage to serve during the fall. Often made with fragrant and flavorful seasonal spices, it's sure to warm you up from the inside out.

Hot Apple Cider (Mulled Apple Cider)

Pour fresh apple cider in a heavy-bottom saucepan (or slow cooker) and set on medium-high heat.

Place your mulling spices in a fabric bag and toss it into your pot. Stir occasionally, squeezing the bag of spices with a spoon like you would a tea bag.

Heat the cider until it is hot and flavorful; then set the temperature on warm.

Optional: Garnish the pot with apple and orange slices. Serve in a mug, garnished with a cinnamon stick.

An old-fashioned Mulled Cider recipe makes the perfect fall and winter beverage!

Combine all of the ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low; simmer for 20 minutes. Ladle into mugs and serve warm. If you want to strain off bits of spices and fruit that are floating in the cider, you can pour the liquid through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth before serving.

This slow cooker mulled apple cider has a 'just right' amount of sweetness from the cider itself and a bit of brown sugar.  The natural spices create a lightly spiced flavor perfect to take the chill out of any winter day.

Recipe may be halved to cook in a 4 quart slow cooker.

In a large (6 quart or larger) slow cooker add all the ingredients and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours.  Spices can be strained before serving by using a sieve.

Tip: to add the cloves to the rind of the orange slices, make small holes with the sharp end of a bamboo skewer first, then the cloves will insert easily and not break in the process.

There's more to good mulled apple cider than swirling in a couple sticks of cinnamon.

Spiced Mulled Apple Cider Recipe

(3-inch) cinnamon

cloves

cardamom pods, pressed until they just crack open

coriander seed

star anise pod

(900 milliliters) high-quality apple cider

Optional additions (see note): 1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) brandy, raw sugar, lemon zest

Turn slow cooker to high and add apple cider. Cover and set aside.

Heat a small skillet on medium-high and add spices. Toast, stirring frequently, until spices are fragrant and coriander seeds begin to darken. Set aside and either transfer to a reusable spice bag or add loose to cider.

Cover and let cider mull on high (reduce if it begins to bubble) for about 4 hours, or until spice flavor is well infused. Ten minutes before serving, add brandy. Add sugar, 1 rounded teaspoon at a time, if cider is too tart (sugar will bring out flavor of spices if needed).

Serve plain, or with a slice of lemon, extra brandy, or a small grating of nutmeg. If keeping warm for service, remove spices.

Pour the apple cider into a large pot over medium-high heat.

Dice up the apples and toss them into the cider.

Peel the rind off the orange in large pieces and toss them in.

Add the allspice berries, the cinnamon sticks, and the cranberries.

Add the sugar and stir it around to dissolve.

Bring the mixture to a low boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Add the brandy if using, then simmer for another 10-15 minutes. Serve warm.

Pour cider into a Dutch oven or a large, heavy-bottomed stock pot ad turn burner to low and bring cider to just below a simmer.

Wrap mulling spices in cheesecloth and add to the pot of cider. Add cinnamon sticks, sliced oranges, sliced apples, star anise pods and maple syrup and give cider a good stir. Cover pot and allow cider to cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Keep an eye on the cider as you don't want it to come to a boil. This shouldn't happen, however, with the burner on low.

Remove and discard mulling spices and serve cider warm in mugs. Garnish cider with apple slices, cinnamon sticks and cranberries if desired.

Combine the apple cider, brown sugar, and one portion of mulling spices in a dutch oven or large pot.

Bring to a low simmer over medium heat. Do not let boil. Stir occasionally in the first 10 minutes, or until the brown sugar dissolves. Simmer on low 30 minutes and up to 2 hours. Strain if desired.

Ladle the warm cider into mugs and garnish with a fresh orange slice, cinnamon stick, and/or fresh whipped cream.

Optional:  ladle into mugs, add bourbon and apple brandy, then garnish and serve.

Use a vegetable peeler and peel off 3 large strips of the outer rind of the orange. Do your best to avoid digging into the pith as it is very bitter. Set aside.

Add the apple cider, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, star anise, and orange peels to a saucepan over medium-high heat.

Allow the mixture to come to a simmer. The cider can be used immediately after it reaches a simmer, or you can reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer and cook for up to 30 minutes more.

Remove the spices and discard, if desired.

MAKE THE MULLED CIDER

Add the rum to the mulled cider, stir and serve in mugs or coffee cups.

If using the ginger liqueur as well, you might want to consider using half the amount of rum so your cider won&#039;t be quite so boozy!

BATCH OF SPIKED CIDER (MAKES 8):

Add 1 ounce of spiced rum, a 1/2 ounce of ginger liqueur, and a scant half-cup (about 4 ounces) of apple cider to a mug or coffee cup. Stir and enjoy!

Tie the cloves and cinnamon sticks in cheesecloth to make a spice pouch. Core the apples and slice them into ¼-inch slices.

Turn the Instant Pot on. Add the sliced apples, brown sugar, ginger, spice pouch, orange peels (if using), and water into the Instant Pot. Stir well. Close the lid and set the vent to Sealing mode. Pressure cook for 15 minutes at high pressure.

Wait 10 minutes then release the pressure manually. Open the lid after the pin drops. Use a potato masher to stir and mash the apples.

Strain this apple mix through a strainer into a separate bowl, using a spatula to push down the pulp.

After you are done straining, strain the liquid once more, stirring lightly so the strainer holds back the pulp.

Serve hot on its own in mugs garnished with a cinnamon stick or add a dash of bourbon or rum to make a hard apple cider. For entertaining, select the &quot;keep warm&quot; mode on the instant pot and serve it straight out of the pot. Enjoy!

This is my favorite instant pot cider recipe so far. I've made it a handful of times and it's always a hit.

I've started tweaking it by doing the following:
- 4 cloves instead of 8
- Adding a blood orange cut into 8ths (wedges)
- A LOT more water. No specific amount, I just fill until the 4L line in the instapot liner

The result is slightly a less spiced, citrusy, and less thick cider. Essentially I'm making it to drink cold.

If I want to drink it hot, though, I tend to stick with the original recipe (especially if I'm adding booze).

The point is this is a great recipe that's easy to adjust to your liking and virtually impossible to mess up!
