Hands-free yummy Baked Steel Cut Oatmeal prepared in the oven - perfect for entertaining guests at breakfast or meal prepping breakfast for the week!

Baked Steel Cut Oatmeal

steel

bananas (mashed)

almond milk

flaxseed

maple syrup

coconut oil (melted)

vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 375ºF. Lightly coat an 9 x 9 baking dish or 8 x 11 baking pan with cooking spray.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the banana, almond milk, ground flaxseed, maple syrup, coconut oil and vanilla extract until well combined. Add the steel cut oats, cinnamon and salt and stir to combine.

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Cover the pan loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover the pan and add the pecans on top. Bake an additional 25-30 minutes until golden brown (55-60 minutes total).

Serve hot, scooped into bowls, or let cool for 10 minutes and cut into squares.

Place oats, water and salt into a saucepan and bring to a boil, watching carefully so the water doesn’t boil over. Turn down heat quickly and allow the oats to simmer for 1 minute. Remove from heat and let cool. Cover with a lid and place in the fridge overnight.

The next morning, portion out the amount you want to eat and heat in a saucepan over medium-high heat until hot.

Dress with toppings of choice. I love banana slices, berries and nut butter.

I have not soaked steel oats but I have old fashioned oats.  I have a large bag of the steel so I'm looking forward to try them.  With my rolled oats I add either yogurt or kefir to the soaking process. It helps the gut to process the proteins and I love the added flavor.

I love Steel cut oatmeal too, it's very fulfilling in the morning especially in the winter. I cooked mine like this in a stove top on a sauce pan with 4 tbsp of coconut oil, then roast 2 cups of steel cut oatmeal until golden brown. I then add 4 cups of boiled water and simmer for 10 minutes. Once it's done and cool I store it in Mason jars it makes 8 jars. Then store in the fridge for the whole week breakfast. When I'm ready to eat it, I add half cup of Almond milk and loosen up the oatmeal and microwave for 1 minute at a time too avoid overflowing while warming up total of 3 minutes. Then I add chia seeds, dried fruits and some nuts. I know it sounds tedious but I don't mind it as it's really satisfying after breakfast.

This easy Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats recipe makes perfectly creamy oatmeal every time. It&#039;s a healthy and delicious gluten-free breakfast that comes together in less than 30 minutes! 

Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats

Toppings of your choice: berries (chia seeds, nut butter, splash of milk)

To avoid sticking, lightly coat the inner pot of your Instant Pot with coconut oil or cooking spray.

Add oats into the Instant Pot followed by milk.

Secure the lid and close the vent.

Press the MANUAL (or PRESSURE COOKER for newer Instant Pot models) button and set to 4 minutes.

After the oats finish cooking, allow the pressure to release naturally (about 10-15 minutes).

After the pressure releases, open the lid and give the oatmeal a good stir. Any extra liquid will absorb as it cools.

Add cinnamon, sweetener or other additions you like.

Top oatmeal with fresh fruit, nut butter, a splash of milk, or any other toppings you like.

I use 2 cups of Steel Cut Oats and 5 cups of milk or water and set the cook time to 5 minutes. I do NOT recommend making a larger batch at once, as it caused the outer parts to burn when I tried.

To Double the Recipe

Grease the inner pot as usual.

Add 3 cups of rolled oats, 5 1/2 cups of water and set for 4 minutes on HIGH Pressure.

Release steam naturally for 15 minutes after it&#039;s done.

Stir. Add sweeteners, flavorings, toppings and enjoy!

How To Make Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats

There's nothing cozier than baked oatmeal! This baked steel cut oatmeal is carrot cake flavored, with cozy spices and pecans.

Carrot Cake Baked Steel Cut Oatmeal

carrots (1 1/2 cups grated)

olive oil

egg egg

2% milk (or oat or almond milk)

ginger

nutmeg

baking powder

raw steel cut oats (do not use rolled oats)

pecan pieces

Preheat the oven to 375F. Grease a 8&#215;8 or 9&#215;9 baking dish.

Peel and finely grate the carrots, enough for 1 1/2 cups.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the olive oil, egg, milk, maple syrup and vanilla extract.

In a small bowl, stir together the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, baking powder and kosher salt. Pour into the bowl with the wet ingredients and whisk to combine. Stir in the steel cut oats.

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, then mix in carrots and spread them around evenly. Cover the pan loosely with foil.

Bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil then sprinkle with pecans. Bake another 30 to 35 minutes until set. Serve warm, or refrigerate and eat leftovers for several days. (Note: This baked steel cut oatmeal is best warm or room temperature. Leftovers store well and can be reheated. To make it ahead, you could bake the entire pan and reheat: or prepare the wets and dries separately and refrigerate overnight, keeping the carrots in a separate container, and then mix them and bake the next morning.)

Baked it for house guests and it was a big success! The texture is lovely because of the steel cut oats.  I used 2 medium carrots and that was enough for 1.5 cups and substituted walnuts as I was out of pecans. Thank you!

These Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats are creamy, chewy oatmeal perfection! Cooking steel cut oats in the Instant Pot is an easy and hands-off way to make steel cut oatmeal. This recipe is perfect for make ahead breakfasts.

Place the oats, water and vanilla in your Instant Pot. Stir.

Close the Instant Pot lid and move the steam release valve to the sealing position.

Set the cook time using the Pressure Cook/Manual function to 4 minutes at high pressure.

The Instant Pot will take a few minutes to reach pressure and then the cook time will begin counting down. When the cook time ends, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release for at least 15-20 minutes (just leave the Instant Pot alone).

After the natural release, carefully move the steam valve to the venting position to make sure that all of the steam and pressure has escaped. Open the Instant Pot lid.

Stir the oats and serve with toppings as desired.

5-Minute Overnight Steel Cut Oatmeal

In a large pot, bring 3 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 cup of steel cut oats and a pinch of salt. Allow to boil for about one minute then turn off the heat and cover the pot with a lid. Bed time!

The next morning, remove the lid and turn the heat to medium-high. Pour in the milk using 1/2 cup for thicker oats or 1 cup for a thinner consistency. Cook while continuing to stir for 3 to 4 minutes, until soft but still chewy. Transfer to a bowl fo serving, finish with desired toppings and enjoy!

Store leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days. Microwave on high for 2 minutes when ready to serve.

Bring water to boil. Add steel cut oats, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 3 minutes, until all liquid is absorbed. Turn off heat and stir in salt and pepper.

Heat a nonstick pan or skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 teaspoon oil. Add vegetables and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until they soften. Spoon vegetables over cooked oats.

Add remaining 1 teaspoon of oil and fry egg. Cook until the whites are no longer translucent and serve over oatmeal.

Top with everything bagel spice.

Combine

Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook for 6 hours on low for a firm texture and 8 hours on low for a softer texture. Alternatively, cook on high for 3-4 hours.

Serve

To serve, dish up oats and top with additional maple syrup and chopped nuts if desired.

I made this for the first time last night, as a trial run before I was hoping to bring it on vacation. Super easy to put together but when I woke up this morning, the top was burnt &amp; so was the bottom so only the middle was edible. The part that was edible was tasty but we lost about 1/2 of our recipe to the part that was burned. I followed the recipe exactly so I’m not sure why this happened. I’ll try once more and maybe cook for 6 hours instead of 8 and I’ll update my review.

Okay my luck with Pinterest recipes is awful - not this one though! My husband doesn’t even like oatmeal and he couldn’t stop eating this! This is by far our new favorite Sunday brunch meal. This recipe is so easy and DELICIOUS! I cannot say enough good things about this recipe!! mmmmmm!!!!

How soon can you mix this up and let sit?   Could I mix Friday afternoon and not then crock pot on until late Saturday night ?

This is my favorite recipe for oatmeal. I did have to cut my second patch down 2 hours because the oatmeal sticking the bottom and I even used coconut oil on my first try. It was still edible, but my second time was perfect. 
Being a vegetarian, I wanted something to last for a few days before starting a new recipe.

How to Cook Steel Cut Oats On The Stovetop

Start By Boiling The Water

Bring the water to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.

Add Oats &amp; Salt

When the water is boiling, add the steel-cut oats and a tiny pinch (less than 1/8 tsp.) of salt.

Simmer &amp; Stir

Reduce heat to low and cook 15-20 minutes, or until most of the water is absorbed and the oats are tender.

Finish With Flavor

Stir in milk and vanilla and remove from heat.

This is a great basic recipe for steel cut oats. I would make a note that oats should be added to the boiling water slowly while stirring. I added a diced apple when I added the oats. When adding the milk (I used sweetened Almond vanilla almond milk) I reduced the vanilla extract to 1/4 tsp. vanilla, I also added 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp ground clove. To each bowl I added a 1/2-1 tsp brown sugar. It was absolutely delicious. I am going to try saving the leftovers in fridge overnight, will see how well they keep and reheat

Totally loving steel cut oats.  Need to understand how much dry oats equal how much cooked oats?  Besides the recipe you use--the one I do--I have used steel cut oats as a 'savory' side turning them into a sort of risotto.  Great invention these! (hated oatmeal as a kid too!)
