Blueberry Gelatin Salad

(15 ounces) blueberries, drained

(8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

sugar

vanilla extract

sour cream

pecans

I’m not a huge fan of jello salads, but this is a favorite here. We love blueberries, and every year find a you pick farm locally to get our fill. This is a great way to showcase them. As a side note, I will say that I have used sugar free gelatin and lower fat sour cream, and it is still quickly eaten here!

My Aunt Doris called this her picnic salad. She would decorate it with little plastic ants just to see peoples reaction. It was always delicious.

Response to those asking if you could use blueberry pie filling:  I make a similiar recipe which can be found by typing Creamy Blueberry Gelatin Salad into the Taste of Home search engine.  It uses blueberry pie filling and grape jello.  It always gets rave reviews when I bring to summer functions.

I've been making this for years.  It's delicious!  I add a small can of crushed pineapple and some chopped nuts (I prefer walnuts but most people prefer pecans) to the jello.  I also use 1 1/2 cup of water and use some of the juice from the canned blueberries to make the other 1/2 cup needed.  Add water if there isn't enough for 1/2 cup.

I make this with frozen blueberries and frozen rasberries and change the topping to crushed up gluten free cookies . Its a delicious gluten free nut free treat.

this  salad is delicious and decadent!! my husband says 12 out of 10 stars!! I used fresh/frozen blueberries. the other thing I want to try next time I make this is using more jello!

This has been a family favorite around the holidays since we don't eat cranberry! I use raspberry jello and a can of crushed pineapple with the blueberries! This is amazing and so quick!

My sister gave me this recipe several years ago and I have been making it every since.  It is easy to make and tastes great.  I use blackberry jello instead of cherry and yes, I use blueberry pie filling.
