Bring one inch of salted water to boil in a large pot with a steamer insert. Once water is boiling, place asparagus spears in the steamer in a single layer. Cover pot and steam for 3-4 minutes, until tender crisp (The asparagus will continue to cook after you've removed it from the heat). Remove from heat and stir in lemon zest and juice, and parsley. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Drizzle sauce over asparagus and serve garnished with lemon slices or lemon wedges if desired.
