It's difficult not to demolish this classic lemon drizzle in just one sitting, so why not make two at once?

Lemon drizzle cake

unsalted butter, softened

caster sugar

eggs

self-raising flour

lemon,zested

1½ lemons,juiced

Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4.

<a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/review/best-whisks">Beat together</a> the butter and caster sugar until pale and creamy, then add the eggs, one at a time, slowly mixing through.

Sift in the self-raising flour, then add the lemon zest and mix until well combined.

Line a loaf tin (8 x 21cm) with greaseproof paper, then spoon in the mixture and level the top with a spoon.

Bake for 45-50 mins until a thin <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/baking-equipment">skewer</a> inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.

While the cake is cooling in its tin, mix together the lemons juice and caster sugar to make the drizzle.

Prick the warm cake all over with a skewer or fork, then pour over the drizzle – the juice will sink in and the sugar will form a lovely, crisp topping.

Leave in the tin until completely cool, then remove and serve. Will keep in an <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/top-five-tupperware-sets">airtight container</a> for 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 1 month.

This is an easy banana bread recipe that gives perfect results every time. Be sure to use really ripe bananas - the blacker the better.

Each serving provides 334 kcal, 5g protein, 53g carbohydrates (of which 30g sugars), 11g fat (of which 6.5g saturates), 2g fibre and 0.8g salt.

Equipment and preparation: You will need a piping bag with a 1.5cm/ ¾in plain nozzle, a small star nozzle and a long thin nozzle (or you could use a jam syringe) and a skewer.

Nothing beats a warm, sticky Chelsea bun fresh from the oven. These are drizzled with icing for an extra naughty treat.

sachet fast-acting yeast

300 milliliters/10fl oz milk

grams/1½oz unsalted butter,

free-range egg

vegetable oil, for greasing

These little cookies – described by one friend as tasting like a cookie within a cookie – are really a mixture between a meringue and a cookie. Hence they’ve become known at home, where they’re immensely popular, as Merookies, and are ideal with a cup of coffee after dinner. They are called “forgotten” as, just like the 'Forgotten Pudding' in Nigella Express, they are not baked, but put in a hot oven, which you immediately turn off, leaving the cookies to bake in the fading residual heat overnight. I find it all too easy actually to forget them, and always put a post-it sticker on the oven to remind me they’re in there, so I don’t burn them to a cinder by preheating the oven to cook something else in it the next day.

I love anything with lemon in it so when I found out we had to make a drizzle cake lemon was the first thing that came to mind, but I spiced it up a bit to make it special. 

For this recipe you will need a 900g/2lb loaf tin and a food processor.

Pistachio, cardamom and lemon drizzle cake

green cardamom pods, seeds

grams/3½oz plain flour

grams/1 ounces ground almonds, sifted

tsp baking powder

½ tsp bicarbonate of soda

grams/1¾oz soured cream

lemons, juice only

120 grams/4¼oz caster sugar

75 grams/2½oz icing sugar

lemon juice

These elegant, buttery biscuits might look extra impressive but they're surprisingly easy to make. Dip in chocolate for an extra sweet treat

Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line 2 <a href="http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/kimberley-wilsons-top-5-baking-trays">baking sheets</a> with baking parchment. Put the butter and icing sugar in a large bowl and beat with an electric hand whisk for about 5 mins until pale and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and beat again until fully incorporated.

Sift in the flour, cornflour and baking powder, and fold into the mixture using a spatula until combined (the dough should have a tacky consistency). Spoon the dough into a <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/top-10-cake-decorating-kit">piping bag</a> fitted with a large star-shaped nozzle. If all the mixture doesn’t fit, do it in 2 batches.

Pipe swirly circles 5cm diameter onto 2 baking sheets making sure there are 3cm spaces between each swirl.

Bake for 10-12 mins, swapping the trays over halfway through the cooking time so the biscuits are evenly baked, until pale golden and cooked through. Leave to cool on the baking sheets for a few mins, then transfer to <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/baking-equipment">wire racks</a>.

While the biscuits cool, make the filling. Put the softened butter in a large mixing bowl and add the icing sugar. Stir together initially with a wooden spoon then switch to electric beaters or a <a href="https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/review/best-whisks">whisk</a> to get the buttercream fluffy and smooth. Add the vanilla extract and beat once more to combine. Transfer the buttercream to a piping bag and snip off the end.

Turn the biscuits over so their flat side is facing up then pipe buttercream over half of the biscuits and spread a little jam on the rest. Sandwich a jam covered biscuit together with a buttercream one and repeat until all the biscuits are used up.

For those that only like a little icing, Mary's drizzled version of the classic Bakewell tart will be a hit at tea time.
