Perfect Homemade Bread Bowls, made right in your own kitchen! These are nothing short of AMAZING, with a perfect crusty exterior, and soft in the center. 

Homemade Bread Bowls

water

Tablespoons active dry yeast ((2 packets))

granulated sugar (, divided)

salt

Tablespoons butter (, melted)

all-purpose flour (, divided)

Combine the water, yeast, and 1/2 teaspoon of the sugar in a small bowl. Stir just until the yeast is dissolved. Cover with a towel and let stand until the mixture is foamy, about 5 minutes.

In a large bowl, add the salt, remaining sugar, butter, yeast mixture, and 3 1/2 cups of the flour, and mix.  Slowly keep adding more flour (about 1 cup at a time) until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl.

Knead the dough (with your stand mixer, or using your hands) for about 5 minutes. Stop and touch the dough with a clean, dry finger. The dough shouldn&#x27;t be &quot;sticky&quot;, but may barely stick to your finger. Add a little more flour, as needed, until you reach that consistency. Knead for 2-3 more minutes.  

Lightly spray another large bowl with nonstick spray and transfer the dough to that bowl.  (Flip the dough over once so both sides are coated with spray).  Cover the bowl with a dish towel and let it rise until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces (I like to cut it with a serrated knife into equal portions. Pick up one section of the dough and pat it down with your hands to remove any air.  Use your hands to gently fold the dough into a tight ball.  Place the dough ball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.  Make a very small &quot;X&quot; slit on the top of the dough rounds with a serrated knife.

Beat an egg with 1 tablespoon of milk to make an egg wash. Lightly Brush the tops of each dough ball with a very thin layer of egg wash.

Cover the rolls really lightly with a piece of plastic wrap and allow to rise until doubled, about 30-40 more minutes.

Bake at 400 degrees for about 25-30 minutes. Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before cutting for bread bowls.

Spinach Dip Recipe

oz frozen chopped spinach (1 package)

mayonnaise or dressing (low fat

sour cream (or Greek yogurt)

dry vegetable soup mix (1.4 oz)

water chestnuts (canned, drained)

green onions (chopped)

Defrost spinach overnight in the fridge or in the microwave. Squeeze dry.

Chop water chestnuts and combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix well.

Refrigerate at least 2 hours prior to serving

Serve with bread, crackers or vegetables for dipping.

Heat the olive oil in large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion, celery, carrots, and garlic and cook until onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the butter until melted, then add the flour and cook until the flour coats the vegetables and browns slightly.

Add the chicken stock and half-and-half and stir to combine. Season with the black pepper, thyme, and nutmeg, then allow to come to a boil.

Reduce the heat to medium-low and add the corn, peas, and chicken. Season with salt. Cook until warmed through.

Ladle the soup into bowls. If desired, garnish with small rounds of baked pie crust.

I made this for a New Year’s Eve party, everyone loved it! I added hot sauce to it, and extra minced garlic.

I made this for Thanksgiving and it was well received! I thought it was too heavy with the sour cream/cream cheese flavors but everyone else loved it. I cooked it with foil over at 375 for 30 minutes to get it hot in the middle, then my husband flambeed it with a torch to get it crisp on top.

How much spinach should I add if not using artichoke? Thanks

Thanks for the recipe Jo. I also add chipped beef or chopped pork in the mix. I wrap in foil and bake in a 3:50 oven for about 30 -50 minutes, depends on the size of the loaf and ingredients.

Perfect recipe, made for my St.Patrick's Day party. It was a hit. Did wrap in foil and cooked longer to make sure middle was hot and bubbly.
