Add wine, cider, honey, orange zest, and orange juice to a 3-quart or larger slow cooker. Stir to combine. Add the cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, and star anise. Cook on low until warm, 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your slow cooker. Stir in the brandy.

Ladle into mugs and serve with an orange slice and cinnamon sticks. To keep the wine warm, leave the slow cooker on the "Keep Warm" setting. If your slow cooker does not have a warm setting, alternate between "Low" and "Off."

Homemade Hot Chocolate

unsweetened dark cocoa powder (I like the Hershey's special dark version)

maple syrup

Warm the milk in a sauce pot over low heat. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder and syrup for a couple minutes until combined. Drizzle into the milk and stir to dissolve.&nbsp;

Transfer to a large insulated carafe or pitcher and serve with toppings of choice.

Rather than tossing your orange peels, add a few to a batch of warming chai for a soothing sick-day (or any-day) beverage.

Orange Peel Chai

This tea combines warming spices with the bright, bitter flavor of orange peels. Perfect for sick days, the recipe is totally adaptable—add cloves or fennel seeds, or stir in ground spices (or ½ tsp. of a blend like chai masala or haldi doodh) at the end. And if you like your drinks on the savory side, try adding ¼ tsp. smoky black cardamom.

Remove peels from clementines, trying to leave as much white pith behind as possible; set clementines aside for another use (or snacking!). Bring 3 cups water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add clementine peels, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, and ginger and cook 3 minutes. Remove pan from heat and let sit 5 minutes.

Set mixture over high heat and return to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in tea. Let sit 2 minutes.

Strain chai through a fine-mesh sieve into 2 glasses, dividing evenly. Squeeze in lemon juice and add honey to taste.

This homemade hot chocolate is extra rich and delicious, has two types of chocolate, and you can add other flavor add-ins for fun!

The Ultimate Homemade Hot Chocolate

cocoa powder (0.14)

Add the cocoa powder, semi-sweet chocolate, sugar, and salt to a medium saucepot. Pour the milk and half and half over top.

Place the saucepot over medium heat. Heat the ingredients over medium while whisking until the chocolate has fully melted into the milk and the milk is beginning to steam (but not simmering).

Once the chocolate is fully melted into the milk and the milk is has begun to steam, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Taste and adjust the sugar or chocolate to your liking.

Serve hot with your favorite toppings.

Hot Drinks to Take the Chill Off!

teaspoon Homemade Chai Spices

cup water

black tea (or 1 teaspoon loose leaf black tea in a tea strainer)

½ cup fresh 2% milk (or whole milk)*

vanilla extract

maple syrup (or honey, agave, or simple syrup)

In a small saucepan over medium high heat, whisk together chai spices, water and tea bag and bring to a boil. Once boiling, remove it from the heat and allow it to rest for 1 minute. Then strain through a fine mesh strainer** into one or two mugs (one for a large latte and two for small).

Rinse the saucepan. Add the milk, vanilla, and maple syrup. Heat the milk to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (measure using a thermometer): this is hot with some small bubbles forming around the outside, but not simmering. The exact temperature is helpful for getting the perfect foam (if you don’t have a thermometer you can approximate).

Use hand frother, whisk, or French press to foam the milk. (The French press is a favorite method: Add the scalding milk to the French press and pump vigorously until frothy, about 100 times for 2% milk or approximately 1 minute; use 50 times for whole milk.) Rest the foam for about 30 seconds, which allows it to set. Go to How to Froth Milk if it’s your first time frothing.

Pour the milk and foam evenly between the mugs (or into 1 mug). Sprinkle with additional chai spices and serve.

Rose infused milk with creamy pistachios is a rich and flavourful beverage perfect for festivals. It can be served hot or cold.

Rose Pistachio Milk

Once it boils, add dried rose petals, crushed cardamom pods and jaggery powder. Simmer the heat and keep reducing the milk to thicken it.

Keep stirring so that the milk doesn&#8217;t burn. Keep reducing it for about 20 minutes on low flame.

Meanwhile, crush unsalted pistachios in a mortal pestle into very small chunk almost like a powder. You can so it in a food processor or mixer.

Once the milk is reduced, strain the milk. 

Add crushed pistachio chunks/powder to the milk and mix well.

I love apple spice coffee and when I couldn't find it at the store anymore I came up with these techniques for a spiced coffee. Just made this and I love it! I used dried culinary lavender. I let it steep for at least the 20 min she recommended (I like a strong herbal flavor) and honestly it may have been longer since I forgot to set the timer haha.
