Overnight Croissant Breakfast Casserole

lb Bacon

lb Pork breakfast sausage

Croissants

Eggs

Milk

Heavy cream

Salt

Pepper

Garlic powder

Dry mustard

tsp Ground sage

Parmesan cheese

oz Shredded cheddar cheese

Cook 1 pound of bacon until it is crispy. Set it aside until it cools, then crumble it into pieces.

Brown 1 pound of pork breakfast sausage over medium-high heat, drain fat. Add the crumbled bacon to the skillet.

Tear croissants into bite-sized pieces and press them into the bottom of a greased 9x13 baking dish.

Pour the meat mixture over the top of the croissants.

In a large mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, and heavy cream. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, mustard, and sage. Whisk to combine well.

Pour the liquid mixture over top of the meat and croissants in the baking dish.

Cover the dish with tin foil, and place it in the fridge to sit overnight.

In the morning, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.&nbsp;

Uncover the casserole dish, and sprinkle 1 cup of parmesan cheese over the mixture. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.&nbsp;

Bake for 45-55 minutes until it is cooked through and the liquid has been absorbed. If the top browns too quickly, cover with foil and continue cooking until the casserole is cooked through.

Serve with fresh fruit.

green onions (sliced)

red bell pepper (finely diced)

Remove casing from sausage and cook over medium high heat until no pink remains. Drain any fat.

Layer ½ of the cubes in a greased 9×13 pan. Top with ½ of each the sausage, green onions, peppers, and cheese. Repeat layers ending with cheese.

Combine eggs, milk, &amp; seasonings Pour egg mixture over bread ensuring all of the bread has been covered. Refrigerate overnight (or at least 3 hours).

Remove from fridge and place in the oven while preheating the oven to 350°F. Bake covered with foil 65-75 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. (If you are baking 2 pans increase cooking time will need to increase).

In a separate bowl mix eggs, sour cream and cheese.

Once egg mixture is thoroughly mixed, add sausage and veggies. Pour into your prepared dish.

Breakfast Casserole

This easy breakfast casserole is infinitely adaptable! Use your favorite seasonings, vegetables, meats, cheeses, or make it vegetarian. Makes excellent leftovers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the week! Make sure to read the recipe notes and check out all the step-by-step pictures below this recipe before you begin.

Easy Make-Ahead Breakfast Casserole

sausage,

optional: 1 teaspoon dried rosemary to give the sausage more flavor

bell peppers, diced (any color you prefer; about 2 cups)

mushrooms

spinach

medium yellow onion, diced

garlic

salt and fresh ground black pepper

milk (I use almond milk, any milk works)

cheese*

Set a large skillet over medium heat and coat it with nonstick spray or a drizzle of olive oil. Place sausage in the skillet and begin to break it up with a spatula or fork. Stir in the rosemary and brown the sausage, about 6-7 minutes.

Meanwhile, set a 2nd skillet over medium heat and coat it with nonstick spray or a drizzle of olive oil. (If you have a skillet large enough to fit both the sausage and veggies, you can just add the veggies to the sausage that is browning in step 1.) Add the peppers, mushrooms, spinach, onion, garlic, and a sprinkle each of salt and pepper. Begin stirring and cooking the veggies down until tender, about 6-8 minutes.

Generously grease a 9&#215;13 baking pan. Break the bread into pieces and place in the pan in an even layer.

In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and 1/4 cup shredded cheese together. Pour half of this egg mixture over the bread. Top with the sausage and vegetables, then the remaining egg mixture and remaining 1/4 cup cheese. Add a sprinkle of salt and pepper on top.

Cover casserole with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight&#8211; or up to 1 day. Allow it to come to room temperature before baking.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (191°C). Bake the casserole, uncovered, until the top is golden, edges are crisp, and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean&#8211; about 40-45 minutes. I like mine on the super crisp side, so I bake it for around 45-50 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then slice and serve. Tastes awesome with hot sauce on top.

Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave to your liking.

If I use dried bread pieces, will they soften enough with everything piled on top?

Fluffy Strata Recipe (Overnight Breakfast Casserole)

whole milk ((or half & half))

cheddar cheese ((off the block))

smoked gouda cheese ((off the block))

deli ham

scallions

Set out a large mixing bowl and a 9X13 inch (3 quart) baking dish. Grease the baking dish. Chop all necessary ingredients.

In the mixing bowl, add the eggs, milk, salt, ground mustard, and garlic powder. Whisk well to break up all the yolks. Then stir in the cheeses, ham, scallions, and roasted red pepper.

Tear the bread loaf into 1-2 inch chunks and place them in the baking dish.

Pour the egg mixture over the top of the bread. Use a spatula to fold the bread over, gently, to make sure the ingredients are evenly distributed. Cover and chill until ready to bake.

Let the strata recipe rest for at least one hour, so the bread soaks up all the eggs. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. (This is a fabulous make-ahead overnight recipe, so you can also preheat the oven in the morning.)

Bake, uncovered, for 50-60 minutes, until the top is golden-brown and puffy in the center. Insert a sharp knife into the center to check that the eggs are set. If not, bake another 5-10 minutes. Then cool for 5 minutes before cutting. Serve warm!

This Overnight Sausage and Egg Breakfast Casserole is a classic in our house! I’ve been having it on holiday mornings since I was a kid and have carried the tradition into adulthood.

Overnight Sausage and Egg Breakfast Casserole

bread, cubed*

cheddar cheese

dry mustard

Spread the bread evenly into the bottom of a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.

2. Sprinkle the sausage and cheese evenly over the bread.

3. In a large measuring cup, combine the eggs, milk, dry mustard, salt and pepper.

4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the ingredients in the pan.

6. Prior to baking, preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until set. Cover it loosely for the first 30 minutes or so, then bake uncovered for the reminder. You may need to bake it for a little more or less time depending on your oven and how soft or “runny” you prefer the eggs to be. I don’t really like it to be runny, but I also don’t want it to dry out. To check it, use a fork or knife to stick in the middle and see how soft it still is.

*I like to use a little bit sturdier bread. Often I use the Pepperidge Farms Sourdough loaf.

For a little more nutrition, I added some fresh spinach to the sausage at the end to wilt it and added sliced Roma tomatoes on top! Soooo good

I make this about once a month for a quick and easy breakfast option for my husband and me. I portion out individual servings and we eat it throughout the week. Always tastes just as good on day 3 or 4 as it does in day 1!

An overnight breakfast or brunch casserole that comes together quickly along with an easy recipe for Blueberry syrup!

Blueberry and Cream Cheese French Toast Casserole

half and half

sugar

cinnamon

vanilla extract

blueberries

Butter a 9 x 13 casserole dish.

Cut french bread into 2 inch cubes and set aside.

In large bowl, combine eggs, half and half, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and salt. &nbsp;Whisk until completely mixed.

Put one half of bread cubes in prepared dish.

Top with half cream cheese cubes and half cup of blueberries.

Add remaining bread cubes and top with remaining cream cheese and additional half cup of blueberries.

Pour egg mixture over bread cubes. Pressing mixture down so completely soaked by egg mixture.

Cover with plastic wrap and store in refrigerator for at least 2 hours or up to 48 hours.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Remove plastic wrap and sprinkle casserole with raw sugar.

Cover casserole with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove foil and bake an additional 20-30 minutes or until center is firm and bread is slightly brown on top.

Cool slightly and serve with blueberry sauce.

Blueberry Sauce

In small saucepan, combine sugar, water and cornstarch until simmering.

Add blueberries and simmer for 10 minutes. &nbsp;Using a fork or whisk, slightly break up the blueberries to desired consistency.&nbsp;

Cool slightly before serving or store in refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Remove the crust from the bread slices. Lightly butter or grease a 9x13'' baking pan.&nbsp;

Arrange the bread slices in the baking dish to cover the bottom of the pan, with no spaces.&nbsp;

Brown sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it up into small pieces. Drain Grease and remove to plate.&nbsp;

Add onions and bell peppers to skillet and saute until slightly tender, 3-5 minutes. Add green chiles.&nbsp;

Sprinkle freshly grated cheese evenly over the the bread in the 9x13'' pan.&nbsp; Add the cooked sausage evenly on top, followed by the onions, bell pepper, and green chiles.

Whisk the eggs in a medium sized mixing bowl. Add milk, salt, paprika, oregano, black pepper, garlic powder, and dry mustard and whisk well to combine.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Slowly stir the egg mixture as you pour it evenly all over the top of the assembled casserole. Cover baking dish and place in the refrigerator overnight (or refrigerate for at least 6 hours)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake (uncovered) for 50-60 minutes or until center is set and outside edges are golden brown.&nbsp;

Allow to cool for 15 minutes before cutting into it and serving.&nbsp;
