For turmeric with black pepperTo make turmeric with black pepper for anti-inflammation, combine the turmeric powder, black pepper powder and ghee in a small plate and mix well.Serve the turmeric with black pepper for anti-inflammation immediately.

Turmeric powder is a spice known for its health benefits since ages in Ayurveda. It’s the compound ‘curcumin’ in turmeric which possess the so-called nutritional attributes. However curcumin is poorly absorbed in the body as it is easily metabolized. Thus its combination with black pepper came into limelight. Freshly ground black pepper contains a compound viz. ‘piperine’ which inhibits the metabolism of curcumin and thus makes more of curcumin available to the body. Thus piperine increases the amount of curcumin being absorbed in the body too. What more? There is no specific ratio of turmeric powder to black pepper to be consumed in reality. It is said that the average content of curcumin in turmeric ranges from 4-7% and average content of piperine in black pepper ranges from 2-7%. A ratio of 100:1 of curcumin to piperine is recommended. However this quantity seems to be very small. Since it is difficult to get perfect ratios of these bioactive compounds, to make it simpler it is said that even 1/20th of pepper powder is enough to increase the bioavailability of curcumin from turmeric powder. This means that 1 tsp of turmeric powder (2 g) can be combined with 1/8th tsp of freshly ground black pepper powder (250 mg).

Turmeric powder helps to relieve inflammation in the body thus protecting various oragns like heart, liver, kidney etc. along with bones. Turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties are knwon as a cure to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Turmeric is a good source of iron, thus helps prevent anemia. It anti-bacterial property helps in fighting cold and cough. Curcumin in turmeric has been found beneficial in prevention and treatment of cancer. Turmeric can be looked upon as a detoxification agent as well.

Step 5
