Crock Pot Bourbon Chicken

lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs

cornstarch

green onions ((or more to taste))

ginger

garlic (, minced)

red chili flakes

apple juice

honey

brown sugar

ketchup

cider vinegar

water

Bourbon

soy sauce

salt & pepper

Mix all sauce ingredients in a small bowl.

Place chicken in slow cooker, pour sauce over top. Cover and cook on low 6-7 hours or on high 3 hours.

Remove chicken and chop into bite sized pieces and cover to keep warm.

Meanwhile, combine 3 tablespoons water with cornstarch. Turn slow cooker up to high. Whisk cornstarch slurry into the sauce. Cover and allow to thicken, stirring occasionally (about 10 minutes). Stir chicken back into the sauce and add in green onions.

Serve over rice.

Chop chicken breasts into bite sized pieces and pat dry with a paper towel. Toss chicken in a large bowl with 1 tbsp cornstarch.

In a large skillet over medium heat add sesame oil. Add chicken and cook until no longer pink. Drain all juices from pan. Return skillet to stove and continue to cook chicken over medium heat until the chicken is browned, and the bottom of your skillet is &quot;browned&quot; as well.

In a medium bowl combine pepper, apple juice, ketchup, soy sauce, water, brown sugar, ground ginger, minced garlic, water, and 1 tsp cornstarch. Whisk together.

Once chicken is browned add your sauce mixture. Using a spoon, deglaze the bottom of the pan and make sure to get all of the browned bits up and off of the bottom of the pan. Bring sauce to a boil.

Once the sauce is boiling turn heat down to low and allow to simmer 5-7 minutes, stirring often.

Once sauce is done simmering remove from heat and allow to sit for 5 minutes to thicken.

Serve over white rice and enjoy.

In a mixing bowl, mix together chicken broth, orange juice, brown sugar, bourbon, soy sauce, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and corn starch. Set aside.

Sticky Bourbon Chicken with Rice

THE NIGHT BEFORE: Combine the soy sauce, oil, vinegar, bourbon, and brown sugar in a bowl. Whisk until combined. Place the chicken in a baking dish (a casserole pan or something with high sides) with lid and pour the sauce over the chicken. Toss in the ginger, garlic, and half of the green onions. Cover and marinate overnight (or for as many hours as you have before baking).

THE DAY OF: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Uncover the chicken and bake directly in the marinade for 45 minutes, basting the chicken with the sauce periodically and/or turning the pieces upside down to get them baking in the sauce on both sides. Cook the rice according to package directions.

When the chicken is done, turn the oven temperature to broil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes to get a nice, browned exterior on the chicken. Remove and serve whole or cut, with extra sauce and scallions, over the rice.

I think you’re the only person in the comments who’s actually tried to make the recipe ... I just made this too and found the sauce to be runny as well ... were you ever able to get the sauce sticky like in the picture?

This homemade recipe is a family favorite! Juicy chicken drenched in a Bourbon sauce, served over rice!

chicken thighs (boneless skinless)

rice wine vinegar

green onions (thinly sliced, green tops only)

Trim off any extra fat on the chicken thighs and cut into 1-inch chunks.

In a medium-sized mixing bowl whisk together soy sauce, bourbon, apple juice, dark brown sugar, grated garlic, grated ginger, rice wine vinegar, red pepper flakes, and water.

Heat olive oil over medium-high heat and cook in batches until browned and mostly cooked through.

Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the chicken and simmer for 15 minutes. This will help cook off the alcohol in the bourbon and fully cook the chicken throughout.

In a small bowl whisk together the cornstarch and the cold water. Add to mixture and cook until the sauce has thickened and coats the chicken fully.

Stir in green onion tops and serve over rice.

Mix the soy sauce, stock, bourbon, brown sugar and spices in a bowl then set aside.

Cut the chicken into half inch thick strips then cut into 1-2 inch pieces. Place in a bowl and toss with cornstarch so the pieces are coated.

Add oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot add the chicken in two batches. Cook on one side for about 3 minutes then flip. Do not move around, let it get nice and crispy.

Transfer chicken to a plate and add about two tablespoons of oil to you pan add garlic and cook while moving constantly until fragrant. less than a minute.

Pour in the sauce and use a wooden spoon to mix and deglaze the pan. Bring to a boil and cook for a minute then add the chicken back in and reduce to a simmer. Move the chicken to coat and cook until reduced by about half.

Garnish with sliced green onions and serve with rice.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook both sides until lightly browned. Remove and set aside.

Bourbon chicken is a kind of Cajun and Asian hybrid dish that’s evolved over the years in Chinese take-out restaurants and local mall food courts.

Start by marinating the chicken. Mix 3 tablespoons water and 1 teaspoon soy sauce with the chicken chunks, working it with your hands until the chicken has absorbed all of the liquid. Adding water and soy sauce to the chicken (especially true if using chicken breast) results in a moist and tender chicken experience!

Once the chicken has absorbed the liquid, mix 2 teaspoons of cornstarch into the chicken until well combined and set aside.

Mix the sauce ingredients by combining the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, rice vinegar, dark brown sugar, chicken stock or water, sesame oil and white pepper and set aside.

Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a wok or large frying pan on high heat until just smoking, and spread the chicken evenly. Let the chicken sear on one side for 1 minute. Use a metal wok spatula (you can also use a rubber spatula if you can’t use metal utensils on your pan) to turn the chicken and sear another minute. Turn off the heat and move the seared chicken to a plate. Set aside.

Return the wok to medium heat and immediately add the ginger (if using), garlic, and minced onion. Stir-fry for 20 seconds or until the onion is translucent, taking care not to burn the mixture.

Stir in the bourbon to deglaze the wok, most all of the alcohol will cook off leaving the flavor behind. After 30 seconds or so, pour in the sauce mixture and stir to further deglaze the sides of the wok. Once the sauce comes to a simmer, add the chicken back to the wok. Stir until the sauce comes back to a simmer and gradually stir in the cornstarch and water mixture (stir it up first, as the cornstarch may have settled).

Continue to stir and cook until the sauce has thickened enough to coat a spoon. At this point, you can remove the smashed piece of ginger or warn your guests so there are no surprises! Stir in the scallions and serve with steamed white rice!

In a medium bowl, mix and massage cornstarch into sliced chicken breasts.  Allow to sit for 20 minutes.

While chicken is marinating, make the bourbon chicken sauce by whisking all sauce ingredients together in a medium bowl.  Set to the side.

Preheat griddle on low.

Once griddle is heated to about 400-425 degrees F, add a thin layer of your favorite cooking oil and spread it around with your spatula.  Place the chicken on the griddle so that each piece has space to cook and brown.  Allow the chicken to cook on the first side until about halfway cooked through (about 3-4 minutes).  Flip chicken pieces to the second side and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Add the cut vegetables to the chicken on the griddle and sauté together.  Continue to cook for about 2-3 minutes until vegetables are slightly tender, stirring frequently.

Slowly pour the prepared sauce on to the chicken and vegetables.  Stir sauce, chicken, and vegetables to combine.  Continue to cook the bourbon chicken for an additional 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally until sauce has reduced to desired consistency and chicken is fully cooked.

Transfer bourbon chicken to a serving plate.  Allow to cool slightly and top with sliced green onions.  Serve with white rice, cauliflower rice, etc.

Place the chicken breasts, 1 at a time, in a Ziploc bag. Pound the chicken breast to an even thickness, being careful not to puncture the bag. Put breasts in the bag.

In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, apple sauce, onion, ginger, garlic, oil, bourbon, BBQ sauce, vinegar, brown sugar and red pepper flakes.

Reserve and refrigerate 1/3 cup of the marinade and transfer the remainder to the Ziploc bag with the chicken. Refrigerate and marinate for at least 30 minutes or as long as overnight (the longer the better!! I marinated mine 12 hours).

Preheat outdoor grill over medium high heat. Discard the marinade in the bag and grill the chicken for 4 minutes per side, or until chicken is cooked through.

Transfer chicken to a plate, tent with foil and allow to rest while you make the sauce.

Put reserved 1/3 cup marinade in a small sauce pan. Add chicken broth and bring to a boil over medium high heat. Once boiling, reduced heat to medium-low until sauce has thickened slightly, 5 to 6 minutes.

Slice chicken breast, top with sauce, scallions and serve.
