This old-fashioned homemade apple crisp is a simple dessert baked from scratch just like grandma used to make!

Apple Crisp

apples

flour

sugar

brown sugar

cinnamon

vanilla

lemon juice

old fashioned oats

baking powder

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Prepare a deep 8x8 dish or 11x7 by spraying with nonstick spray or butter the dish.

In a large bowl mix the apples, flour, sugars, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice. Toss to combine until all apples are covered with flour. Transfer to prepared dish. The apples will be piled high but it's okay because they shrink a bit as they cook.

In a medium bowl add brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and butter. Use a pastry cutter or two forks or your hands to combine and crumble the mixture until it is pea-sized and crumbly.

Spread topping over the apples and gently pat it down.

Place dish on a cookie sheet in case any goodness bubbles over.

Bake 45-60 minutes until brown and bubbly.

Let cool slightly before serving as the juices are super hot.

Easy Apple Crisp

(65 grams) all purpose flour

(90 grams) old fashioned rolled oats

(168 grams) packed brown sugar

tsp nutmeg

tsp salt

butter,

(56 grams) packed brown sugar

tbsp butter, melted

tbsp (16 grams) all purpose flour

2. Add all of the ingredients for the topping, except for the butter, to a medium sized bowl and stir to combine.

3. Add the cold butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture is crumbly and comes together. Set aside.

4. Combine all the ingredients for the apples and stir together so that the apples are well coated, then pour the mixture into an 8 or 9 inch square dish. 5. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.

6. Bake for about 40 minutes, until the topping is golden around the edges and the apples are tender. Allow to cool for about 15 minutes prior to serving.

Delicious! We went apple picking this past weekend and this was just what I needed to use up apples in a yummy dessert.

Absolutely the best apple crisp I have made, hands down!! Followed the recipe. I did double it and used 9 × 13 glass oan.

This was super easy to make and so delicious! I didn’t have regular oats on hand so I used Oatmeal Crisp maple nut cereal and Harvest Crunch in the topping. Phewwwf! Worked really well. Homemade Caramel Sauce

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a medium size bowl combine the crumb topping ingredients with a fork or pastry blender until it resembles small crumbs. Refrigerate while you prepare the apple filling.

For the topping:

(I use a Johnny Apple Peeler to peel and slice the apples all at once. It makes the process a lot faster!)&nbsp;

In a small bowl, combine melted butter and flour until well blended. Add lemon juice, milk and vanilla and stir well. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.&nbsp;

Pour butter mixture over apples and toss to coat. Pour apple mixture into an 8x8-inch baking dish and spread into an even layer. Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over the apples.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and top is set. Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Serve with Vanilla Ice Cream and homemade caramel sauce, if desired.

Combine all the topping ingredients EXCEPT BUTTER in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse a few times to chop.

Cut the butter into 12 small chunks and scatter over the other ingredients in the bowl. Pulse the mixture 10 to 15 times, until combined but still chunky.

Refrigerate while you make the filling.

(If you don’t have a food processor you can use quick cooking oats and chop your nuts finely by hand. Stir all the ingredients EXCEPT butter in a bowl, then use your fingers to cut in the cold butter until crumbly.)

Topping

Preheat the oven 400 degrees.  Spray a 9-inch square baking pan with cooking spray and set aside.

Combine all the filling ingredients in a large bowl and stir until the fruit is evenly coated with the sugar.

Spread the filling into an even layer in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with the refrigerated topping.

Bake 30 to 40 minutes, until the topping is browned and the juices are bubbling a bit around the edge of the dish.  Cool at least 20 minutes, then serve.

Store uneaten crisp loosely covered in the fridge for 2 days.

Healthy Keto Apple Crisp Recipe

Peel and cut the zucchini. If the zucchini is on the larger side, then make sure to take out some of the seeds. 

In a dutch oven, turn heat onto medium-high and add the butter. Once butter is melted let it start to brown, but don’t burn it. Now that the butter is browned add the zucchini to the pan. 

Add cinnamon, nutmeg, and sweetener to the zucchini and stir well. Then pour in lemon juice, and add xanthan gum. 

Cook on medium heat for at least 20 minutes. Keep stirring mixture to make sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. 

While the squash is cooking, start making the topping. In a food processor, chop the pecans. You can chop them by hand, but I find it way easier to use the food processor. 

In a small bowl combine the softened butter, chopped pecans, almond flour, and cinnamon together. To really mix it in well, you might need to use your hands. 

Once the squash is cooked, transfer it to a baking dish. Sprinkle the topping over the squash, you should have enough to completely cover it. 

Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until the top is crispy and the fruit is bubbling.

Wow, this is just like regular apple crisp, love it! Thank you for this recipe, so good. The only alterations I made was to double the amount of pecans for the topping as well as reduce the monk fruit by half, because the first batch was a little too sweet for my taste. Lastly, monk fruit bothers my stomach a little so I split the monk fruit in half with a couple squirts of liquid stevia. If you like apple crisp, MAKE THIS RECIPE!

This was delicious! And my husband - whom I have been doing Keto with for more than three years now, kept trying to guess what the fruit was... lol I refused to tell him. I did make a couple of substitutions- I wound up using about just a little over 1/2 cup of low carb almond granola (Natures Path grain-free) in the topping instead of pecans, (I'm allergic.) It only has about 6 net carbs per 1/2 cup so it didn't change carb count too much per serving and it was delicious. I'll be making this again! ( I'm also dairy-free right now so subbed plant-based butter- worked beautifully)  Yummy!!!

I do like it, but I don't love it because although the texture was really good like an apple crisp the apple taste was not there.  Maybe next time I will add an apple extract.  Thank you for the recipe.

This is delicious!  I'm a terrible baker so I followed the recipe exactly and it came out wonderful!  I used gala apples and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  Soooooo good!  It's not overly sweet and the crumble adds a great texture.  Next time I have extra apples, I'll make this again!

Pre-heat oven to 350F. Lightly butter an 8 inch (20cm) round or square baking pan.

In a small bowl whisk together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add the softened butter and combine to form large crumbs. Set aside.

In a large bowl add the apples as you slice them and drizzle a little of the lemon juice on them, mix to combine as you slice, (this keeps them from turning brown). Then add the cinnamon, brown sugar and corn starch if using, and gently combine well.
